I actually have an idea on how metal sonic could be in the movie. After witnessing sonic's incredible power and utilizing the chaos emeralds power. G.U.N secretly decided to send spy drones to spy on Sonic to study him and analyze his speed and strength. They also were able to use their data to copy the life from data of tails and knuckles. Since Agent Stone had infiltrated G.U.N, he had secretly gained access to the late Doctor Robotnik's drone tech and used it to create metal sonic. He was able to sweet talk the leader of G.U.N into allowing this and the only things they need to complete metal sonic completely, was that they needed the master emerald, and the data on the ultimate lifeform, shadow the hedgehog. G.U.N would retrieve shadow before team sonic and they would manipulate him into doing their bidding, with Agent Stone pulling the strings from behind the scenes. They would then take shadow's life from data and copy it into metal sonic. While shadow tried to take the master emerald from team sonic, metal would rush in and steal it from all of them, becoming Neo metal sonic. Agent Stone knew he couldn't control such a machine so he uploaded Eggman's biodata, his intelligence, vision and drive to metal sonic's network. Neo Metal Sonic then fights sonic and shadow who team up to take him down. Neo then transforms into metal overlord and sonic and shadow turn super to stop him. Meanwhile, Sonic's human companions infiltrate G.U.N to attempt to expose their true plans to the world.

I think that metal sonic would be a great villain and that infinite personally is just a bad villain. Theres no way that this guy who uses a PROTOTYPE of the actual phantom ruby can top of solaris, because solaris is a God and also because of iblis. Iblis destroyed the future and only 2 people remained which were silver and blaze. And also eggman cant be dead. Because in the post credit scene we see agent stone and a mysterious person releasing shadow which could be eggman and also explains why agent stone was disguised as a G.U.N. agent, to help eggman find the coordinates to project shadow and then release him. Metal sonic is gonna be a great villain and would be so cool to see in the next movie.

I have a dark theory. Eggman isn't able to recreate sonics speed ,so isn't it abit strange that metal is equal to sonic in speed and power, But yet lacks in Intelligence. I kinda hope for metal sonic is the main enemy created by agent stone as a way to avenge dr. Robotnik and shadow along with possibly team dark aka rouge and omega are the antagonists but become Allies in close to the finale of the sonic 3 movie

Eggman DID survive the fall and Jim Carrey has to be in this movie. I mean how did Agent Stone survive. I mean he was in his own separate cockpit but surely eggman had some kind of special shield. actually guys I have a theory--when robotnik fell I think he was holding a fragmented piece of the emerald which is how he survived and it does explain why the emerald broke in sonic hands because one little piece was missing but sonic didn't see it because robotnik kept it just in case which is why he wasn't so powerful but why he was still able to operate the Egg Mech to some capacity because he still had a fragment of the emerald.
