    • @Funglutton
      @Funglutton Před 2 lety

      Really? I thought this was incredibly shallow compared to some of his other content. Escobar was often in the public eye and there are several intriguing episodes to his life, so it should be possible to provide a more evidence-based analysis with direct quotations or testimonials by those around him. All of that is missing which, considering the immense notoriety and criminal success of this individual, is underwhelming and underachieving on Dr. Grande's part. Perhaps if the goal is merely tittillation and advertising revenue then mission accomplished, but I think more interesting things can surely be said about one that brutally robbed, manipulated and slaughtered his way to unthinkable power.
      As an erstwhile avid watcher of this channel, this video is a shadow of some of the earlier analyses completed on notorious criminals. It is, sadly, more of a fizzler than a banger for me.

    I'm from Colombia, and will friendly fact check the great doctor: here it is believed he wasn't so wealthy. Also, he did a lot more damage than was mentioned. He kidnapped and killed relatives of prominent politicians, he also kidnapped Andres Pastrana, who would later become president. It's also a fact that he was behind the attack on the supreme court (the guerrillas and his first man, Popeye, have said he financed the guerrillas to burn it down, in order to erase his criminal record). He also killed the minister of justice (who had uncovered that he was indeed a drug dealer, at that time Escobar was a member of the House of Representatives). He also bombed the security services building. He was left leaning and killed the candidate of the liberal party (the right wing paramilitaries killed the rest of the candidates, who were either former guerrilla fighters or members of the communist party). When he killed some of his cronies at his private prison, he burned the bodies in the yard, and the smoke could be seen from Medellin. The government immeadiately sent the army to assault the prison, and he hardly managed to escape with his first man (Popeye). They found shelter in the rural villages deep in the mountains. The alliance to bring him down was between the Cali Cartel, the paramilitaries, the government and the DEA. He didn't kill himself, he was shot by a famous coronel of the police, who is now a corrupt politician.
    Finally, I think he didn't stay quiet in prison for a simple reason: he had too many enemies, and they were pushing hard to take over his empire. He needed to push back to protect his family and his money. His first man Popeye told the whole story of why he kept commiting crimes while in prison. He even held many meetings there with his enemies trying to find a peace deal. But his enemies wanted him out.

    Escobar was larger than life. In a world that's almost always on the lookout for the next big thing, he was always trying to be the next big thing. And very often he succeeded. Ultimately he could not control his impulses and those impulses brought him down. The irony is that his success was built on exploiting the inability of others to control their impulses.

  • @deisyalejandraalvarezhidal651

    We are very ashamed he was Colombian since Colombia is such a wonderful country. I live quite near the place in which he started his gang. Thankfully, our neighborhood is safe now and we're slowly teaching new generations that hard work and studying is the clue for a better life. The person at the funeral home that embalmed his body confirmed that he was shot. For poor minded people here in the city, he's still a hero, but for most of the people from Medellín and all Colombians, his memory is a curse.

    That was incredibly interesting Dr. Grande, thank you!
    I've watched documentaries on him and people like him, which always leaves me thinking that there is no amount of money that would make that lifestyle even a tiny bit worth it. You'd have to be full on paranoid when you get to that level to survive, because in that world who could you truly trust?!
    I never knew about the hippos, but of course he'd have such brutish animals. Loved your wrap up about them! 😄

      @@cottontails9003 having an overdose reversed is particularly painful (opiate). Narcan totally destroys the opiates in Ur receptors so when you come around fully you are withdrawing... No one will thank anyone in that condition. Once the next fix is had and they are no longer shitting themselves and puking their guts out (trust me when I say that withdrawal puking is violent, normally involves multiple sneezing, coughing and because of all this force to the diaphragm, shitting urself with every heave) I'm sure the thanks are felt then.... Never injected, as I don't want to od, but smoked heroin for 26y...Edit: spelling
