If Tesla is called the man that invented the Twentieth Century then it is incorrect. That honour should go to all scientists leading up to the Twentieth Century. Faraday is the one that discovered the principles for magnetics that lead to the electric motor and that light was indeed electricity. Nothing Tesla did is in use today. He went the wrong direction in the transmission of power. Not completely wrong like Edison, but his ideas never were put to use. He wasn't alone either in the ideas he had another person had the same idea for the transmission of electricity and did it better and more efficient. Was he a good showman, sure but was he doing anything new? Only as stunts. Who invented the cage that he would get into to do his stunts? True, he didn't murder any animals in his demonstrations, as far as I know. Yes he was smart, he was goddamn smart but he didn't invent the Twentieth Century, not one person could be given that honour because all scientists stand on the shoulders of giants. Then again he was an inventor out for personal wealth, he wasn't a scientist.
Almost forgot, he died while mourning the loss of his favourite pigeon. cuckoo cuckoo I love my cats, I don't die from heartbreak when they die nor will I if my wife dies before me. If we use human history as a guide.
The single largest machine in the world is the electrical distribution grid, which utilizes alternating current. I like to think of it as Tesla's child. Our modern way of life is only possible because of Tesla. He is one of my few heroes.
Tesla is my hero as well. I would love an even deeper dive into his life here but for a condensed version it’s pretty decent. I wish he would’ve given his opinion on the way in which Tesla received the knowledge of his inventions through a bright light or dream that would pop into his head like God/higher being was planting these ideas at seemingly Radom times. I also would like to here what the doc makes of Tesla believing that he had reached alien life on Mars through radio waves and he could communicate with them to a small degree.
@@dylan4652 i came across some videos claiming that he was into hinduism (i did not check it out). some documentaries/movies about tesla also showed that he was 'seeing' solutions to whatever technical issue he was trying to resolve (i've never before heard of him having hallucinations though).
(i em an el. engineer myself, studied back in good old former yugoslavia, atheist, worked as sw engineer for many years, and interestingly enough, am looking into all things spiritual/magical these days. based on everything i'm hearing and having briefly looked at the core hindu concepts, it might be possible that theory about tesla having visions and talking to spirits is indeed true. who knows, we can only speculate..... all i know is that he used his genius for the benefit of all - in the end that's the only thing that matters.

I feel Tesla should be seen as more important than Edison.
He is to scientists. He has an SI unit ( magnetic flux density) named after him which is about the highest honour you can get in the physics community.
Considering he was exploited by Edison and Edison stole his intellectual property and passed it off as his own genius
Edison did come out with some useful inventions himself, arguably less significant than Tesla's but it's also clear that Edison was the more successful entrepreneur and took great pains to manage his public image. Tesla did not share these talents, or at least not to the same extent. Tesla's proposal to power America with alternating current was of course vindicated as opposed to Edison's direct current power scheme, which proved to be all but unpractical on a large scale. I guess that almost balances them out.

In Tesla's Auto-Biography he mentions that he was overwhelmed by waking hallucinations, would literally stop him mid-stride. From my memory, he learned to control these "waking dreams" into a form of "waking lucid dreaming" which helped him visualize and troubleshoot his inventions entirely in his mind. 2c.

Einstein was also a visual person and conducted thought experiments and received "down loads" through" images or scenes such as riding along side a beam of light which in that case time would stop. In some ways time is a result of light movement relative to " solid" objects. Move at light speed and aging stops!
This can also be accomplished through meditation!
When one vibrates at a very high frequency we can " overcome" the density of the physical body, and expand or bridge the deeper lighter and faster frequencies of the astral plane and beyond!
The entire cosmos is within! Follow the breath to go inward!

Working in the science field, Tesla is one of my all-time favorite scientists. A true scientist who cared nothing about capitalism and monetary systems. Amazingly insightful and so far ahead of the time he lived in. I think in his case, OCD may have actually helped him in terms of researching. As Duncan Trussell said... "Nikola Tesla was the electric Jesus".
he was offered a percentage profit of every watt (I assume, sorry, my physics is bad!) produced by his AC, but he declined it and thus saved Westinghouse. If he hadn't declined... imagine, he would have been the RICHEST person in the world EVER to live. But that was not his goal in life :)
This is true and also very compelling. He cared more for the next amazing discovery, improvement, or invention to this end that he cared only for money inasmuch as it could further his research. He was obsessed with solving whatever challenge lay between himself and his professional goal of the moment. Unfortunately, that goal continually moved and stayed (would stay) forever just out of his reach. In other words, he would never be satisfied. I think it drove him ever further out of his mind.
Tesla was ahead of his time and I guess its true there's a fine line between madness and Genius. Great informative video as usual 👍👍👍.

You may be introverted Dr. G, but your willingness to reach beyond your natural tendency to extend yourself into the public arena is a blessing for many people.
I’m retired, I was a public school teacher for a few years and then spent 25 years in pharmaceutical sales and management. Being introverted myself I know how much energy it requires to convert innate tendencies for introversion into a day filled with activities that only an extrovert could draw energy from. Nevertheless, I loved what I did and enjoyed the people I interacted with.
I found early in my career that I could enjoy my work very much. I merely needed to allow time for recharging my introversion batteries, with activities that allowed me time doing things that balanced out the energy consumption.
Interestingly it was only after several workshops where the Myers Briggs personality inventory was administered that I began to understand myself better. The information I gleaned caused me to look deeper into my personality traits beyond Myers Briggs and it made all the difference!

Respectfully, How does one "nail" the MB's test? I'm sorry but I should have watched the video first perhaps the nature of the Myers-Briggs test was discussed so I would know I've taken at least one I know for sure but I'm sure I've taken more than one you're so popular I took a personality test for the most likely careers I would be good at while I was attending Brandeis University as one of 12 adult students in your new Brandeis adult scholar program which allowed the student to be able to take less than a full course load and I took three out of four courses and commuted as a single parent on afdc which was forced upon me from Worcester to Waltham I got to tell you I really worked hard and my son never took second place. I digress I didn't really need to take the test you know it wasn't like I was very aware of who I was and why I was there and Friends station what my career goals were and had been for a long time they emulated but typically always within the same kind of a category seven categories and I took one of those hundred question. It only fill in the blank really quickly questions like I love to be a car mechanic very gradual or forget about it you know I love to read and two little kids la la la. The two administrators of the chest kicked off the Myers-Briggs are Briggs Myers test by in a mention that there was some kind of right right brain left brain considerations factored into the test and it was merely a barometer with a hundred questions it was a formula well put together I wasn't surprised that it at all of the answers that it came up with it just I wasn't there to get any answers that was there because I love to take test and surveys and personality quizzes and stuff like that but they did say is that in all of your years administering that test and I guess they were speaking about secondhand information from other Myer Briggs Representatives is that no one who takes the test indicates a 50:50 right brain left brain you know that equal capacity people always typically even if it's really close and is closer the numbers are it's it's still a barometer but you could be 51% left braided 43% typically with a broader a broader margin + margin of error. forgive me I hardly slept last night so I'm really digressing okay so I buried the lede again here's the thing they told me as soon as I guess they had their whip through tabulating the results of each person's test would buy one cuz you could leave when you were done they stopped me as I was leaving who who and told me that they just wanted to let me know that I was the only person he ever been it came up exactly 50/50 on right brain left brain. it is that spirit I say go figure!

Dane Tesla was off the top of my head about 12 when he died. Nikola was 5. Dane was considered the more intelligent of the brothers (I wrote a (bad) sci-fi novel on Tesla (the Nuclear Tourist)
Intelligence correlates with health, so though I'm sure a lot of geniuses have died before their time, on average, it is less likely they did so. Thus more geniuses have lived long and productive lives than you would statistically expect. Would be interesting to investigate this.
What about his sister? Were they also geniuses?

I wonder if it might not be from almost dying of cholera when he was young. Cholera is a bacteria spread in unsafe food and water, so some of his germaphobic tendencies make a lot of sense (like having food boiled and frequent hand washing) during an era when unsafe food and water were commonplace.

One story that is true is that he was friends with Mark Twain. Twain had lots of close friends, of course, but Tesla considered Twain his only real friend.

He was part of a team of military academics who raided Tesla’s'apartment following 6Tesla’s death and before his family was notified of his death. I imagine the point was to take and they did anything Tesla might have invented that they could weapon or. Tesla was a genius but not a capitalist. Tesla wanted the world to have free electricity. Edison stole from Tesla. Free just was not happening within Edison, Westinghouse or U.S. government.I am Serbian and there is greater information to be found in Belfast. He was quite and truthful man which did not go over well in the industrial and money oriented U.S.A. Such an honest and interesting man and far a head of his time. Einstein was humble and correct in reference to Tesla being the most important and knowledgeable man of their time. Tesla is a hero for me.
I was sick at 21 and was hospitalized for 6 months. Ive been a germophobe ever since. Maybe having had cholera was the kick off for his OCD.
As for the pigeons; I like pigeons, too, but I'm not in love with any in particular. I think that deep sentiment he had for the one pigeon showed just how lonely he was. His loneliness was probably due to his ideas that women were becoming more like men (he was right), but also because of his OCD.
At any rate, he was my favourite inventor. Great with ideas but bad with money as if he didnt care, and he was misanthropic...I understand that feeling.

Tesla was a fascinating person. I have always wondered if his life circumstances were different and he was encouraged what kind of inventions he might have developed. I wonder if you and others who treat “unusual people” have had the opportunity to redirect people so they can be successful and productive.

I am an ER doctor. The story of the therapist and the felon really resonated with me, because I experience a similar situation quite often. A patient will present with a story that is obviously false, and try to use it for some type of secondary gain. A common one is what I have termed “Kryptonian syndrome.” This is when a patient claims to have experienced an injury which would be devastating to a human, yet doesn’t have a single bruise or scratch. A common one would be “I fell 40 feet off a roof.” If that actually happens, important parts of your body explode or shatter on impact. Anyway, when I hear this type of thing I don’t typically challenge it. That will only make things worse. I know it is a lie or exaggeration but I just give the impression that I believe it. No doubt the patients often think they put one over on me.
Ive no idea why Dr Grande would criticise the junior therapist for NOT calling out the career criminal compulsive liar. But Grande does have a bit of ego, and i suspect theres a bit of power play as in "you're my junior and I would have done it like xyz"

I've been learning from Dr Grande just by observing his way to talk..calm and precisely...and it's been helping me a lot...some times in stressful situations I just try to imitate his behavior on talking..and them the person I'm arguing just calm down too...thank you Sir.

Tesla, like most geniuses, are recognized as such after death. I am sure that all who regard him as genius now (that includes me of course), won't have the same regard of he was still around. We will regard him as a wierd and introvert crazy guy. We rarely see beyond our nose.

Once I was in line behind a woman at the market, she was buying literally everything in her order in groups of three! I overheard the cashier saying something like "do you like the number 3?" Her reaction was very cold and defensive, she just said "No." and silently packed her groceries, paid and left.

Great story at the end! When I was a kid, I had an obsession with even numbers, especially the number 8, and I recall a number of counting rituals I used to do involving 8. But sometimes 8 was impractical, so I did 4, because 4 is half of 8; or 16, because it was double 8. I saw all those numbers as related. 2 was also OK, if reaching 4 was impossible, or upset my mother too much. She used to threaten to take me to a psychiatrist if I didn’t quit. I learned to hide a lot of it, though, so people wouldn’t notice
Wow! You nail it again Doc! I am serbian also and I was soaking in all this information about Nikola Tesla since I was a kid! Btw, you said it perfectly his name👌🏼 Just to add one interesting thing- He was a great friend with Mark Twen❤️and he also had big passion for books since he was a little kid. His dad had a big Library, and Nikola would often read the books till late at night with a light of a candle. His dad would always say to him to stop reading books so late, he was afraid to Nikola don’t ruin his eyes:) Who would think that he would invent electricity one day, what we have today and his stolen scripts about shield around the Earth. He was a beautiful men and gentlemen and all lady’s in that time had a crush in him:) He was the Genius of all times and I am so happy that he wasn’t greedy. Greed is rooth of all evil. It's great that you take such an emotionally unbiased and factual approach to explaining things and it really does provide clarity. I hope you reach more people as time goes on because I think a lot of people could benefit from the topics you're teaching.
I think people back in the early 19th/20th century were quick to call someone insane if they didn’t have the ability to understand a smarter person. Some people were stereotyped as hysterical or were suffering from hysterics. A lot of women were drugged because of they were deemed as hysterical if the husband didn’t want to hear the truth or questioned. Just a thought

● Personally I've struggled with chronic sleep deprivation too, as a result of my ptsd, asd, and night terrors my whole life. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, I have stayed up many times for 80+ hours tossing in bed ,and let's just say ... *reality isn't quite as clear, when everything you experience becomes so blurred* 👀
● Thankfully , over time I have learned to sleep every night, or at least catch a nap during the day. I'm a mother now too so I'm certainly tired out from chasing my 2 year old around all day! Lol

Ohhh, thanks for this analysis Dr. Grande! I'm also Serbian and Serbia's capital's new airport of Belgrade is called after him. He is quite the pride of the nation. My brother visited his hotel room where he died. Tesla was just one of those rare people of genius and tremendous insight and I noticed all geniuses share similar properties... it's a property unifying across countries, nations and time

I wonder if Tesla might have had temporal lobe epilepsy and/or Aspergers. One of the defining traits of TLE is religious mania. Both his father and grandfather were visionary Orthodox priests. Tesla's religion was, obviously, science. (Migraines and epilepsy run in families.) Hallucinations are quite common, usually based on misinterpretation of sensory data; I turn white noise into music. Hypergraphia (writing compulsively) is almost univeral. Tesla left behind dozens of trunks of notes. See The Tesla Files, among many others, on Amazon.

His answer was this:
"I had always thought of woman as possessing those delicate qualities of mind and soul that made her in her respects far superior to man. I worshipped at the feet of the creature I had raised to this height, and, like every true worshiper, I felt myself unworthy of the object of my worship.

I actually actually found it interesting because, on one hand Tesla had those OCD traits which can correlate with high IQ as you point out, but on the other hand he had the extreme aversion to germs and obsession with physical purity (which aligns with what psychs call “disgust”). I find that really interesting as disgust is correlated with lower IQ, yet he was clearly a genius. I was simply making that observation 😊

My human programming is also connected to schizotypal personality. In the past few months, my visual experiences have outdone themselves. I don’t necessarily need the two eyes I have. But I am grateful for the senses. I’m able to live in a world of my creation. I believe in my dreams and I communicate with others in their dreams but when they wake up, they disbelieve the messages. I know now that you have to be on the same signal in order to have clear telepathic comprehension in the higher densities. At last, peace is achieved.
