Kid, you are very lucky to have this dad of yours. Looks like you've been working at it a long time. Keep at it and don't limit yourself to just one genre.
Agree about diversifying. However, the fact that he's into metal will guarantee that he has incredible technique after a few years if he's serious about it. I can already see that his downpicking chops are pretty tight and audible from the creeping death riff. I love when kids are really into guitar and heavy metal. Restores my faith in humanity lol.
Unfortunately my dad on Christmas eve in 1975 when I was 8 so I didn't get anything but that wonder what could have been and at 56 I still am wondering.
My dad gave me a Teisco! A few years later a friend gave me an SG junior with chopped off horns and a Tube Screamer. Thanks to Eddie I jumped to a Kramer around 1989. Considering how much I loved Kiss and the Sex Pistols it's crazy I never bought a Les Paul till I got my Epi LP. Getting the real deal in the near future or a top of the line Epi. We'll see when I visit the Gibson Garage in London this summer. 😊🤔👍
This video reminding me of my dad, i miss him so much. I love you dad. He bought me my first guitar i was around 10 years old, a Gibson les paul and the funny thing was i wanted a flying v cause i loved kiss at the time and i wanted to be Paul Stanley lol. Thank you dad for being a great father!😊
What a great dad! Enjoy your many years making memories playing great licks on that beautiful Flying V. Remember the day you met it and your dad for being super cool 👍
Lucky you 🙂🙂 When I was growing up there was always an insane amount of shouting snd fighting between my mom and my... father... because shock, horror, my mom was playing her Beatles and Rolling Stones records... My father was a diehard opera lover and he considered everything else a blasphemy... There's absolutely no way he would have bought me a guitar ( and an amp ) let alone a Gibson Flying V... Hell, if my mom had bought me the cheapest crappiest guitar she could find my father would have gone into a fit of anger and he would have smashed it and thrown it into a dumpster... The very first guitar I ever bought was a 1985 Ibanez Roadstar RG-440, I still have It...But I had to wait until I was 18 and in my own place for that... I bought ny first Gibson Flying V in 2000... Congratulations young man and most importantly enjoy life 🙂🙂🙂
Special thanks to Randy at Guitar Center in McAllen for helping us time and time again with everything he needs and for helping me with this special moment. If anyone is in the market.... ask for him...
My kid is 10 he just started learning with my guitars. I saw that he got better withing the last couple of months so I took him to GC and bought him his first squier jaguar 70's. He's getting better every day. I know that feeling when your a father and see your kid grown into to something g better than you and you can afford to buy him the gear you always wanted as a kid. When my kid gets even better like your kid I'll buy him a fender jaguar kurt Cobain edition.
Congrats young man and keep it up, the chops are there. As a 49 year old who remembers Metallica hitting the scene, it is awesome to see the youth of today still diggin them. Props to Dad for supporting and encouraging his son in his obvious passion.
That's a beautiful guitar! You're so fortunate to have a supportive loving family. I hope you keep that one forever, and hope you always keep your family close. Beautiful. So happy for you all.
Nice guitar, I remember when I bought my first guitar a bc rich mockingbird I never stopped playing it because I loved it. Big props to the dad for bringing that smile and joy to a future guitarist. Blessings

"Whoa..yo...lets goooo...." Ugh. Im not jealous.its cool for him. But damn these kids need to work for what they get, otherwise it isnt appreciated. I bought an epiphone explorer in 2000 with my middle school job money for 375 and i appreciated that thing so much
He does great in school helps around the house no questions asked and it was completely unexpected but he's an amazing son and appreciates everything!!! Oh and he learns on his own... no instructors involved!!!!
But that's awesome that you saved too get what you wanted... he also wants the explorer but that will take time and he knows he needs to work for it!!!
One day my parents went to go get a new bed because their old one was hurting their backs really bad, and it ended up being like 4k dollars. They felt bad they they splurged that hard for themselves so they took me to guitar center and I got a vintera 60s modified Jaguar. One of the best days of my life.
We would live in a better place, if all parents cared about their children this much. It does help if they are able to afford to do these extra things, to try and help the kids be successful !! Great stuff !!
Dang that kid has good potential! Amazing! The kids parents know what's up ;) love to see a youngster smile so big! Cheers! Subbed! Get him into Testament Alex Skolnick and he will be better than anyone eventually!
Dude you're very lucky when I was your age my father wouldn't even let me play an unplugged electric i had bought with MY MONEY in the house. I hope you're doing all the dishes mowing the lawn taking out the trash and anything else he asks of you
Kid, you are very lucky to have this dad of yours. Looks like you've been working at it a long time. Keep at it and don't limit yourself to just one genre.

Enjoy it kid...and NEVER SELL THAT GUITAR!
My dad made me save up for my first real guitar. A $130 squire. 😂
Pretty much the same story for me except it was a red Memphis strat from a pawn shop. My mom did pay the remaining $30 to get it sooner though
What the hell are they doing???
The boy had the right guitar and started to play the right song first! So let him!!!
But daddy I wanted a Clydesdale
