  • India has placed orders for 1220 planes in less than two years.
    Of these planes, 850 are being made by Airbus.
    The European plane-makers has assembly facilities in five countries.
    What's stopping it from assembling in India- the country that has given it its record single order?
    #Gravitas deep dives.

    6:08 : "India has skilled labour" ; everyone who runs a business disagrees. Our definition of skill is screw driver approach with no real engineering skills. Our engineers are unemployable because they are only good at writing tests but not capable of building anything. Don't be overconfident. If you really had the ecosystem and trained labour, the world would be begging you to let them setup a production unit instead of the other way around. We have a long way to go when a field trained construction welder knows more about metallurgy and structural stress than top university mechanical engineers. Get your educational act together before throwing pipe dreams around.

    I had the same thought when both Airbus and Air India were placing 400+ order with the 2 manufacturers. Ideally this deal should have been driven with Govt getting involved to push for local assembly. Airbus and Boeing would have than have to fight it out to come to India and set up a shop here to get the world's biggest orders.. Its a missed opportunity

      Well you see most of the parts for Airbus aircrafts are manufactured in Europe. For Instance, Wings and Engines are being manufactured in UK. Direct flight from UK to France takes no more than 1-2 hours. If the same engine is to be transported to India one way flight takes 9 hours and then back to UK or France. So, it would take almost a day to transport 2 engines for 1 aircraft. So, at conclusion it would take longer time to manufacture an Aircraft. And another reason is that Airbus has technologically advanced Final Assembly Line in Toulouse, France.

    Government should implement a simple policy to end airbus and Boeing's duopoly. The manufacturer who sources the most from India gets all the orders. Automatically both will compete. We continue the policy until about 80% of the components are sourced from India. Then we go the Chinese way.

  • @Aerrow62
    @Aerrow62 Před měsícem +2

    Because you don't have a choice. They need to setup a new plant and train resources taking 5 years. They can just scale up the existing operations to supply the 1000 aircraft over a 5 year period. Also high speed trains will directly compete with airlines over next decade. They won't setup a new operations and supply chain until multi-decade commitments are made.
