She look like a Malaysian Chinese
Many differences between Gulai and Kari (Curry). Gulai is more Malay, Kari more Indian. Gulai is cooked with santan, but usually Kari is without or just little santan. Kari groovy is thicker and red in color, but Gulai is not thick and more yellow.
Roti canai bird's nest idea is an absolute genius of an idea! Kudos to whoever thought of it.. have not seen it before in other states of Malaysia. I should visit Kedah soon just for this!

yes gulai ikan alway make me mouthwatering..coz iam origin from penang..but leaving in kl..dificult to get gulai ikan..
As a native kedah, i approved that gulai termenung as one of the famous dish in Kedah. Maybe you should try :
1. Nasi lemak haji ali ( mamak style of nasi lemak, much more like nasi kandar)
2. Nasi kandar yasmeen
3. Nasi lemak royale
4. Koteow Bakhari

I preferred ikan tenggiri (King Mackerel) and ikan kembong (India/Chub Mackerel), I preferred fried.

Ikan Kembung = Indian Mackerel
Ikan Tenggiri = Spanish Mackerel
đah ok! Hahaha
I think in Malaysia water's, it is King Mackerel (warm water and slightly bigger) instead of Spanish Mackerel (cold/temperate water). They are like cousins.

Malaysians cook fish with a lot of spices and herbs that's why our fish dishes doesn't taste fishy, especially with the fresh one.

@@JetLagWarriors nope. Just the fact that soy sauce goes so well together with curry, hence why we always put soy sauce with curry. But itâs optional of courseđ
You should try Nasi Daging (Beef Rice) & Mihun Sup Utara. That is some of Kedah food.

The one with the eggplant is called "pajeri terung" english translation, "eggplant pachery". Locals dont consider it as a curry but, it is a curry based but thick and sweet with Kerisik as strong and authentic flavours.
With today's vlog, im pretty damn convinced that Steve has been officially (& fully) transformed into a "fish eater". Lol.

@@JetLagWarriors I told Tourism Kedah to bring you to Intan Corner Ikan Bakar in Sungai Petani. That's the only place in Malaysia where you can have BBQ for breakfast. They only open from 8.30am to 12pm. Everything, barbecued.

Gulai is kedah speciality, masak lemak cili api is negeri sembilan, masak asam pedas is melaka, ikan patin tempoyak is pahang, curry is penang. Gulai is cooked without coconut milk, curry uses coconut milk.

This is how you supposed to eat those fishes : pour a lot of gravy on top of the rice, few sprinkles of kicap (that sweet soy sauce), and then the sambal.. Basically mix all of them together.. Gravy, kicap, ikan & sambal... Then the taste would be heaven

Ikan Kembung is Indian Mackerel.
Ikan Tengiri is Spanish Mackerel
Malaysian "street food" is artisanal which means unique taste for the same sounding dish by different restaurants and even the chefs.
Fish curry is excellent eaten together with chicken soy sauce (ayam masak kicap)...I personally think people from Northern part of Malaysia cook better curry than anywhere else in the world!...I live in kuwait, and thereâs lots and lots of indian from india here, ...but their curry is not as good as the one in mlaysia...anyway, enjoy your trip guys!...stay safe!..cheers from Malaysian in Kuwait đ°đŒ!..
Both of the fishes are a different species of mackerel. The one which comes in a slice is tenggiri, a species of barracuda. It's expensive even for a regular Malaysian.

Malaysia is a Food Heaven, each state have their own specialty for Malay Food.
Not to forget variety mix of food taste from Asean and European That you can found easily in Malaysia.
The fish is so fresh so it doesnât have that fishy taste or smell.im a kedahan currently residing in kl,i rarely order fish here coz its not as fresh.i do look forward for ikan temenung when ever i go back.
