Here is an easy fix for a leaking Briggs and Stratton gas cap (799585)
Instead of replacing the cap which many have said leaks again, my fix was to replace the O-Ring on the existing cap.
I used a Buna-N O-Ring that can be found at your auto parts or hardware store. The size I replaced mine with was an 1.25” ID x 1.50” OD x 1/8 thick. Once the O-Ring was installed, I coated it with a little WD-40, perfect seal no more leak!

I was ready to trash my Toro Timemaster and replacing the gas cap O ring fixed the problem!
I was told to replace the entire gas tank, but, I decided to follow your advice and now I don’t have the gas leak anymore!! 👏👏👏👏👍

Thanks for the tip. I found the o ring at a Menards store and it fixed my leaking gas cap.

I actually took mine a step further and bonded a jet ski gas cap inlet with some JB Weld to mine to have a normal screw on gas cap. Just make sure to drill a tiny hole in the cap so it cap ventilate. www.amazon.com/Aftermarket-Kawasaki-Gasket-59231-3734-51049-3714/dp/B08J8F96JB/ref=sr_1_28_sspa?crid=J4GCJ5POBAZN&dchild=1&keywords=jet+ski+gas+cap+kawasaki&qid=1632158552&sprefix=jet+ski+gas%2Caps%2C174&sr=8-28-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFUVEU0Tko1UEdHVkgmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA1ODA1NTZDTzlKU0k2NllPN0ImZW5jcnlwdGVkQWRJZD1BMDU3NTk5N0I0UFVFUjFEMklVMyZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX210ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Your welcome...I took this a step further. I took a jet ski filler neck and cap, cut off the existing filler neck on the mower and epoxied it to my tank. Now I have a "real" screw on cap. Thing to note, you need to drill a tiny hole in the cap so the tank gets vented. I'll take a video at some point and post it. Been running this was for a few seasons item I purchased is here www.ebay.com/itm/254698467094

Leaking gasoline, gasoline vapors or both? I can smell gasoline in my garage. It's not coming from the carb (mower starts on first pull) or the fuel line (which I replaced anyway). I can find no visible fuel drops on the mower deck. Just ordered another cap to see if it solves my issue.

Where did you buy the seal?

Home depot in the plumbing Aisle. Look at my other video as well for putting in a totally different cap

The reason that your cap leaks is so that it can breathe, very poor engineering Toro.
