Hi India, my brother lives in Kibbutz Tzora (next to Bet Shemesh) and yes the traditional Kibbutz life is changing to a more contemporary style with less cooperative aspects.
The Cafeteria though is awesome, not open for dinner but breakfast and lunch are served. I don't know why but the food is always great. If you want a more peaceful living at a slower pace, the kibbutz is for you. Oh my brother 'married into' the kibbutz.
Probably the healthiest way to live.

Each according his/her needs , each according to his/her capabilities - to generalise all kibbutzim as identical in terms of character is misleading , some kibbutzim now have a wage system which gives preference to job type , and how much money kibbutzniks working outside the kibbutz are able to bring into the kibbutz - I know , I spent more than 15 years living on various kibbutzim , in various capacities - from ulpanist , all the way up to member , and finally outside worker living on kibbutz , before leaving kibbutzim altogether .
On some kibbutzim , meals are NOT " free " , the meal price is taken from the member's allowance and laundry is paid for by weight etc , kids sleep in their parents house , not in purpose built children's dorms, as was the case in the old days , and " outsiders " can ( subject to conditions ) buy land to build their own dwellings on kibbutz land without actually applying for kibbutz membership .
She said that Kibbutz is one of the last and only that still do it like that. Not all of them.
The Amount of Hypocrisy here is enough to tear off the ozone layer ...

In every Kibbutz there is always a nice chunk of freeloaders and those who....let's say, cleanliness is not important.
You left out the dark side of this kind of living. After all we are all Sinner's with short comings and character defaults. So it's not all you want us to BELIEVE.
I think that in time of War and other crisis's that this is a good thing but there comes a day you just want your privacy.
