    This thing does the things that matter best.! It drives so much better than all the others. It's suspension is the best. It's engine and power delivery is incredible. The whole package feels German and it is a performance vehicle. The other's are Ute's that drive like Ute's and I don't care about autonomous braking and radar and stuff like that. The others are not Full Time 4WD they are only 2WD with 4WD only available off road. Full time 4WD is a massive safety advantage that the others don't have. Nit picking at spec's and bells and whistles is for nerd's IMO. This isn't for everyone, the price point partially unjustified, but it delivers big time on driving enjoyment and you do the miles so much easier than the competition IMO.

    Can you journalists stop moaning on and on about airbags and autonomous braking? No one cares. There was nothing in here about what the truck handles like, rides like, or ANYTHING about off-road commentary. Absolutely useless review. You all know very well that boatloads of active safety gear increases weight and bloat in cars and is one of the main reasons modern cars are both heavy and have a short product life (anyone want to guess how cheap it's going to be to fix an AEB system if it breaks in 5 years?) Have some journalistic integrity and show me what the car is actually like to drive, not just some rehearsed specs and features list I could get from the manufacturers website.

      @mwaythai Před 6 lety +8

      Gavin La Grange completely agree, this “review” just seemed to be a bash up, if it was a ford ranger they would be sitting there saying how great it is and justifying the price, and not too mention how many cars have been recalled over the past few months because of faulty air bags? So I’d rather have no air bags in the back then a bunch of faulty ones, how on earth did we have cars on the road for so long without rear curtain air bags and autonomous brakes I think we can survive without them.

    Problem with my 2014 Amarok is that the pedals are set too far forward. Means the seat is too far back and kills rear leg room. I always thought that the pedals should be floor mounted as far forwards as possible. It really wouldn't be difficult to give a couple of extra inches in the back that way.

    It is in need of an update especially for the money, if recent past updated VW’s (see Tiguan or Touareg) it should be a pretty decent leap forward.. whenever that might be.

    After 6 years of rough using
    2013 Amarok it’s in good shape I love it, but there is some squeaking sounds and a-lot of loosen bolts.
    Suddenly even in Saudi Arabia ( less taxes ) it need ton of money to maintain regular maintain costs more than 300 Australian dollars.
    In the other hand Toyota Hilux is more sturdy no squeezing sounds or loosen bolts and costs less money to maintain.

      Peacocks are males. They’re colourful to woo the peahens. That’s masculine 😂

    • @rsoul7282
      @rsoul7282 Před 5 lety

      Leonard Carr never said that there was something inherently wrong with the colour, it is ok, probably wouldn’t be my choice, I was more alluding to the fact that the peacock is not really considered particularly masculine. Still, I don’t know everything, perhaps in some cultures the peacock is a revered symbol of virility.

    I love the Amarok and I’d probably still buy 1 as the rear air bag situation doesn’t affect me (don’t have kids) but it does make you wonder if VW ever watch any reviews on their Ute. I mean almost every review bags them out for safety, yet they keep releasing the Ute year after year and not doing anything about it. People obviously want rear air bags so why not add them ?

    A potentially ultimate vehicle that fell foul to the VW accountants. It seems the VW engineers can deliver the goods but the accountants then go over the vehicle to see what they can remove and charge extra for. Same on all VW models :(

    • @strider88888
      @strider88888 Před 5 lety

      Yeah - I have a MY17.5 Highline V6. Motor is brilliant. But its a really raw vehicle compared to options offered on others.
      Everyone goes on about the airbags in the back - but airbags are really there to save you in really bad crashes. For kids in the back seat exploding air bags may not be so good in a low speed crash - but then you can never tell how bad the crash might be...
      Things I have missed from other cars that I have or have had -
      (1) Electric mirrors that retract, and also dip when you are reversing would be really helpful.
      (2) I'd like them to bring out a version with a payload of 1000kgs - that way no FBT.
      (3) Being able to get AT tyres with the vehicle like Raptor.
      (4) An option to buy the Ultimate without the hard cover and side bars - Really limits what you are doing with it for work or play.
      (5) For work I want ladder bars and a roof rack that is at the same level.
      (6) For security an aluminium rollacover (like the Wildtrack) with a decent seal so its waterproof and keeps out dust from gear in the back.
      (7) I want to be able to lift out the rear ladder rack if I need to cart a larger load.
      Course each to their own - but some manufacturers make it easier for you and not so expensive. VW you have to spend more money to get the higher spec vehicle then strip gear off - power mirrors that fold in aren't available on the Highline which is also a $58k vehicle.
      But the V6 is a beast and kills anything out there ATM though...
      The same engine in a Raptor with rollacovers like the wild track would be a great truck.
      I like the peacock green - the other colours are pretty ordinary.
      My V6 was built in South America so no ad-blue. Any of the german built TDs seem to have ad-blue. (To me just another thing that can go wrong).

    • @warrenlp8536
      @warrenlp8536 Před 5 lety +1

      Not at all.....I'm a master mechanic of 30+ years experience and a throw away statement like " wreck your transmission too" only applies if you drive like a clown. Hell I can destroy any transmission you like if I want to but remember manufacturers build in a conservative margin to account for the boof head drivers that will try.
      My Amarok is chipped, my Skoda Superb is chipped, my W202 C43 AMG is chipped and so is my 99 Volvo V70-R and none have transmission issues. Yes my Amarok is a manual so it's not a problem but I will recommend Racechip in a heartbeat for the added power, drivability and fuel economy.

      @@kienfung3045 you are another Sheep that has been sucked in by the bulshit Toyota story. Yeah reliability my arse. The KUN 26 previous model had injector problems that Toyota ignored for warranty purposes and the current model is underpowered, under equipped and underwhelming to drive, and as far as reliability is concerned, well the DPF problems dog just about every Hilux.
      So get off your high horse because Toyota didnt give two fucks about its customers that had to spend $4,000 on new injectors or the current model that has some bullshit "fix" for the DPF problems and continually going into limp mode.
      Your comment about reliability in Toyota's just goes to show how uneducated you are.
