From QB PRODIGY to UNDRAFTED (What Happened to Taulia Tagovailoa?)

- At one point, scouts thought that Taulia Tagovailoa could be better than his older brother Tua Tagovailoa, but flash forward half a decade and despite putting up huge numbers at Maryland, Taulia Tagovailoa does not seem to have a great chance at having an NFL career and is slated near the bottom of most mock drafts. Today, I want to talk about why this is happening, how Taulia got to this point and his college career, enjoy!

What went wrong for Taulia? :(
can you do a video on what QBs you think will go top 10 next year?
He didn't even get signed as a UFA
@@louispapp7722next stop USFL. Go from there.
@@louispapp7722yet
He's beyond tiny and has iffy decision making.
Seahawks bringing him in as a rookie minicamp arm but I can't imagine he ends up on a training camp roster.
Lol i didn't even know he was in this years draft
Yep, as the NCAA denied his request for another year of eligibility. I hope he tries out for the CFL or UFL.
This video is fake news he was never considered Pro Quality
@@mytaichi5945as a recruit 6 years ago, that’s always speculation with highschool kids though.
He's with the Seahawks @@EyeOfTheWatcher
His last name is the only reason he was a "big time" prospect. He knew he wasn't going to be drafted, the reason he wanted another year of eligibility.
He wanted to transfer to Miami so that he could develop along with his brother
Seahawks got them a HOF
Actually that's extremely wrong 😂. The guy had skill and had a better college career than 99.9% of QBs ranked before and behind him that same season.
The guys ahead of him as pro style QBs
Spencer Rattler
Ryan Hillinski
Dylan Morris
Graham Mertz
The guys behind him
Hank Bachmeier
Cade McNamara
Jacob Zeno
D'Wan Mathis
Joey Yellen
Those are the top 10 pro style QBs that year. All 4 stars and he was middle of the pack ranked 180 overall. Now tell me which QB had a better career than he did 😂
@@ghostwalker89 if you are right, why wasn't he drafted? He was better than S. Rattler yet he was picked by the Saints. I would say besides his name it was the fact he played at Maryland. Not known for playing well really anyone other than OSU and Michigan.
@@Deathstroke4200 @Deathstroke4200 are you 5 years old? Do you not understand being NFL good and college good are two completely different things? There are super raw QBs who are big with big arms and can run that are maybe 3 star players, but develop through college programs and become first round draft picks? At the same time there are plenty 4 star QBs who don't have the elite traits, but have pretty good traits and look way more developed and ready to play that barely get drafted or not at all?
IMO, had Taulia went to the group of 5 and tore it up, a better power 5 team would have been looking for him and he would have gotten better coaching and would have played with better talent.
Let's compare Maryland in the Big Ten before him and after him, though. I'm excluding 2020 because they played like 5 games.

Think if he was on a team with some actual talent. How much do you think he could have improved their record? Despite his flaws, this team with a consistent run game and defense would have won 10 games a year with him. So many of yall want a QB to be super man, yet say nothing of the rest of the team.
I love that at around the 2:30 mark you say he left Hawaii for the States.
Lol
As a Maryland fan, I just never saw the talent against the good teams. I think it's the fact that he is not as athletic as a Kyler Murray at his size that held him back.
Dude made you guys remotely relevant
@@chrisprice4373 he did and I loved him for that, he just never carried us over the hump. I just hope he helped attract better talent.
So bascially the weakness of Tua in the pros was his weakness in college. Not performing vs. winning teams.
That's your problem. Yr a Maryland fan. All you see is wins and loses. I seen the kid play some good ball against some good teams. It's so lame everyone thinks the Q.B wins and loses the game. It's a team sport and Maryland didnt have a great TEAM
@@cameroncook3863they did as well if you follow Maryland you’d know they had tone of talent 2-3 years ago and even this past year a lot of guys that are in the nfl…
Anybody who said he was better than Tua never watched him play. Dude doesn’t have the arm talent to be in the NFL. I could see him playing in the UFL.
Tua doesn’t have the arm strength strength lmao
Tua is bottom 3rd in arm strength 😂
@@GLockandGasfunny to sit and hate on a dude who has a career record of 32-19 with a TD-INT ratio of 81-37.

@@jaydendoucette1347what does that have to do with Arm Strength? Mac Jones has a better arm
I feel like you have to watch every game like us maryland fans to understand how good he is. he is NOT trash bro, he can 100% play NFL football
Because they don’t realize that Maryland WR’s had the most drop passes in the BIG10. They stay hating on my Neph, not knowing a thing
@@esetasi17I wish he could’ve got the transfer
He was above average… JJ McCarthy is better
I was gonna say man I watched him against Ohio state and was confused on why ppl think he’s trash
I dont know a lot about this guy, but i can say one thing, when he played Nebraska last season, i saw a guy with a lot of heart that kept fighting and won the game. Props to that dude.
Welcome to Seattle! Hopefully he shows off his talent and secured the QB3 position
Miami plays Seattle @ Seattle this year…..
@@bourbontrail565as a Hawks fan, please no. For him to play in that game against Tua, bad things happened.
QB3 on the practice squad.
Cardinals
Best Tagovailoa athlete was Fano T. He was a freak athlete who played for Utah. Wish TT all the best. Great family.
Keep up the grind!! Rlly enjoying these last few videos. A video on Dylan Morris would be pretty cool. I grew up around the area he went to school at and I remember him being a 4 or 5 star recruit. Was looking forward to what he could do at UW but ig things jus didn’t pan out
Great idea! I grew up in Puyallup and also looked forward to watching him at UW. After Jimmy Lakes second spring game it was obvious he was not going to be the answer. Still loved what a great teammate he was and hope he does well at JMU.
He was compared to his brother, rather than letting him be himself... Along with the size factor
bro you’re acting like he had extensive years in the big 10 which would contribute to the reason he has 12,000 passing yards. He only played 4 years at maryland and a few snaps at bama
He really wasn't considered a phenom coming out of HS. He didn't have near the same hype as his brother. Tua was the elite 11 MVP and #1 dual threat QB. Taulia was 180th overall which is like mid tier 4 star.
I watched him all 3 years at College Park and he definitely had his moments. The Penn State game his sophomore year. He was 41/57 371 yards. The next week he threw for over 400.. The 2 interceptions in 2023 vs Michigan sunk him. They were in that game the entire way. His turnovers killed them. That ended his NFL chances.
Seattle is bringing him in for a tryout at rookie minicamp, so he still has a shot.
Hopefully he brings his A game and a top attitude
Miami plays @ Seattle this year…
@@bourbontrail565I hope he gets his shot in the NFL, but to actually play in that game, Geno and Howell would have be hurt. That’d suck. Maybe a scenario where it’s a blowout with Geno or Howell (one would still have to be injured), and Taulia gets in briefly. Still rather not.
A long shot
BREAKING NEWS:
He was invited to Seahawks rookie camp
Thanks for the info. Seahawks are trying him out. We’ll see what happens.
Oh man, I graduated from Thompson so crazy to hear you say that name
I'm from Montevallo. I remembered we started back playing you Alabaster Boys, but we could never beat you😂😂
I think that he will be in the UFL next year. He can still work his way into an NFL opportunity in the future if he can get the right coaching.
Seems like he never learned to be his own man. From heading off to Bama to (rumored) trying to join The U for proximity to his older bro, wish someone had told him to head to a Power 5 school that would have given a legit shot at starting as a true freshmen. Could have developed more and had an explosive season the way Kenny Pickett did as a 5th year senior.
Yeah, from what I’ve read about getting denied a sixth year, that is really a shame. A couple articles were a little different in the reasoning, but it sounds like he wanted in when Tua got hurt, and it meant he played in 5 games as a freshman. Couldn’t qualify for a sixth year. Even Saban wrote on his behalf.
NO ONE thought he was better than Tua and honestly no one thought he was NFL material.
Nobody thought he was a prodigy but you
The thought of having Justin Jefferson in Buffalo makes me mouth water. Josh Allen and Justin Jefferson have both refined their games to where they are stars apart. Now imagine them together.
Imagine them together… losing to the chiefs in the divisional like they do every single year, must really make you salivate
Wtf you talking about😂 never gonna happen bud.
It's his size that hurts him. If he did the same things at 6'3, he definitely would have been drafted in the top 4 rounds. When you're short like that, you have to be beyond belief at something. Accuracy, arm strength, athleticism, etc.
seahawks gave him a camp tryout
Fude is the all time B1G passing leader and is heavily slept on and with the right system and WR core in seattle watch him win the starting job and people will call me crazy but he played at maryland and is the all time leading passer in a defensive confrence i.agine if he went to michigan or ohio state
Who's Fude?
His footwork, pocket movement and even the way he runs are all like Russell Wilson
I was bummed Tauila did not get drafted but he was disappointing in big games and this past season
Can we get a Khalil Tate video? I think that would be fire🔥
he's too short and his talent doesn't make up for it
only 37 ints? its almost one per start and 1 for every two TDs! thats a crays lot of ints.
Go and look at Brett Farve INTs
@@derrickez Your right. at Southern Miss, farve threw a ton of picks.
Tia has to have a lightning quick release, be an accurate passer, and process info quickly in order to overcome his poor arm strength. It’s a recipe that’s hard to repeat.
Who’s that wr 8
The UFL exists and if he wants to make it to the NFL he should try his luck there.
No one thought this guy was going to be “the next big thing”
Reminds me of Michael Vick vs Marcus Vick
He probably thought he could get to the NFL on his brother's rep
Just like Bronny James
I know him in real life, his ego is not like that bro. Very humble guy actually deserve a spot on a 53 man roster
college players transferring 3 times needs to stop.
As a Maryland fan I’ll be the first to tell you he’s not nfl talent he was a solid QB the best we had in a while and thank him for that but dude was above average at best and honestly held us back at times there were games to where if he didn’t have a bad pick we would’ve won like #2 Michigan for example twice…
Bruh 😂 the way you said his first name 💀
Canadian Leauge or Japanese football could happen! Never give up!
Maybe the 2 QBs drafted in the 5th round will be on a roster for a year. The rest of the QBs and Taulia will have to show something in preseason to be on a practice squad.
Indoor football is his future if he wants to get paid to play football. He would do well in the IFL. NFL? Career practice player. Maybe CFL or Europe. But, he should look to the IFL or the third incarnation of the AFL
BOLT UP ⚡️⚡️
Look I know people are really low on him but me myself personally with nobody else influencing me I didn't think he was that bad of a player to be honest and wish the kid all the luck in the world////// maybe he can get a good coach that can do something with him
He. Should. Come. To. Washington. Commanders
i feel bad for Taulia Tagovailoa because dude is a BALLER. Maybe if he some better QB coaching development at Maryland he'd got drafted. Hate he left Bama but i overstand he didn't wanna compete against Bryce Young and Taulia probably should have did that to get better instead of starting for a mediocre team that maybe could compete for upset wins against Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. i still believe in Taulia Tagovailoa as a competitor as a playmaker as a coachable leader who wants to win BUT his QB mechanics still need polishing no doubt. He's definitely NOT a RiSK but UFL could really use him 🐘🏈
Prodigy? Phenom? That was Tua!
I decided to graduate high school early also. But they called it a GED. #rarerandom
With some good NFL QB coaching and a year in Seattle on the practice squad I think he can develop into a solid starting QB. If you look at the average yards per pass thrown by a QB in 2023 it was only 9.2 yds! (Short passes to backs, screens, etc.) That was not by Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen but by Brock Purdy. He can go deep but he won’t out pass Josh Allen.
This kid is way better than Michael Penix jr. because of his last name he was well known and also the reason he went undrafted. Put this kid on a good offense he be a beast.
Nothing went wrong. He lacks the physical size talent for nfl teams to bother drafting him
Can he play runningback?
He reminds me of Wilson. Seen what he did in Seattle. Miami screwed up Tua would sign for a lot less if his little bro was in the Q.B room. Reather have him then Mike White
Csnt even tell what youre saying. Learn grammar and how to spell. Rather have him then mike white? So you want mike white after him? Bro jesus lol
@@MrGoodeats So what up big grammar bully. Does that make you feel like a big man? I think 10 out of 10 people would know exactly what I ment. Yes you have way more schooling then I ever had . Sorry if I offended your great intelligence. But it means nothing if your a douche . Maybe you should of taken a class in humanity. You might have a friend.
June Jones • Hawaii Greatness • Should of went to Hawaii • Drafted him in Madden he was alright as a #2
he plays like former CFL legend Tracy Ham (Georgia Southern). His agent needs to contact the team that owns his CFL rights. Chad Kelly finally played in the CFL and the was the best decision of his career. He might even make it back to the NFL!
He's invited to the Seahawks mini-camp. I wonder if he will stick. He's competing against another UDFA QB as well as Sam Howell and Geno Smith.
Sat out the bowl game knowing the draft wasn't a sure thing 🤦♂️
At least he has a #dreammate
See if he can make the Cardinals Practice Squad
Welcome to the UFL...
They saw how bad tua was and said yeah we’re good
If the Dolphins did better Tualia's hype would've increased. Lots of people don't believe in his bro Tua so Tualia isn't getting a fair look.
100% they keep tryna compare him to tua and are ignoring he still threw 12,000 yards in college
@@NyneWolf I'm a Tua fan & saw how the league hyped him down as much as they hyped him up. Tua's a baller and as soon as his Dolphins become contenders watch Tualia gonna be drafted real quick.
So he is gonna be a Tim Hassleback?
Practice squad candidate
UFL here comes Taulia
He would always throw a int at the wrong time in a game against the better teams
It was a mistake for him to sit out of the bowl game also
It was that dreammate commercial that tanked his stock
As a Terp fan, his decision making was terrible. He single-handedly would lose games that Maryland would be winning or should have won. The coach really did he a disservice by giving him too long of a leash with his mistakes. He could be a good NFL backup with a great, hard QB coach. I got so tire of watching him give big games away for the Terps.
there is always the ufl maybe the kid can do something there
Should have stayed at Alabama.
Don't worry Brian Fraentz will fix it
from Hawaii to Alabama...wow
Ngl he seemed like his arm was just as good if not better than bryce and a much better pure athlete he would have been a good 6th or 7th rd pick
6”2 is short🤔
I knew he wasn’t as good as Tua when Tua went pro. Bad sign you were on Alabama squad because of your brother.
But Tua was overrated as well. Playing in the SEC was the only reason he was drafted. Also the conference is overrated. Very top heavy
Joe Mitlon
He’s talented but has minimal arm talent….
OK HERE WE GO again the haters, and them TROLLS are at it all day ,and the jealousy the tagovailoa brothers gets every time they make FAME in football please spend your time for something good news or KICK ROCKS AND PICK WEEDS for the RICH or your mom's OUTHOUSE.
You're wrong about him not playing in big games. He almost beat Michigan several times.
He said “not that many” in the end, not zero.
He also said he didnt "win" many big games. So he's correct both ways
Do the downfall of Sam Hartman
He’s 5’ 10”
WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE NEVER PLAYED IN BIG GAMES DO YOU DO PROPER RESEARCH
The answer to your question is No.
@@nekkidmanhole yeah bro I was initially liking the video but as I browsed the channel I see he covers way too many players for him to do any proper research. I watched every taulia game over the last season. He is a great football player and Maryand plays 5 of the toughest school in the nation every year. The defense against those big games was the problem
Cannot agree with the premise that he did not improve or wasn't good as he holds many of Maryland's records. He did need some work on aspects of his game, which is something he recognized and this impacted his stock. He will benefit from learning as a backup and could shine as he matures. He is a gun slinger and many thought that he would be picked up by Miami but Tua is in a contract season. We shall see what happens in Seattle and in the coming years.

Welcome to the Birmingham Stallions.
He was never a Qb prodigy
🎯Did you ever play against Ohio State or Michigan? I have you ever participated in an Alabama practice? Have you ever won a bowl game or set records in a major football conference ?Of course not, you have no clue what it takes to even be considered a prodigy.
@@versewonderstrikes5353 Yet you can still tell if someone is a prodigy even if you haven't done any of those things (most people haven't). I don't need to have played in a sold out concert to know Bon Jovi was a talented band. I don't need to have been in a hollywood movie to know that Chris Pine is a movie star. And I don't need to have played football to know Patrick Mahomes is a fantastic quarterback.
What happened? A bunch of talking head, hot take sports”journalists” went nuts because of his last name. The draft came around and the real football evaluators showed you reality
I Don’t know if this was a surprise. I never heard his name mentioned when the pre-draft “experts” talked up the QB’s that will be drafted.
Move to the states 🤔
You lied 5 seconds into the video.
His brother is terrible so he had no chance

NFL clearly thinks too much when evaluating this position his film looked nfl caliber to me great off platform thrower and looks excellent in the rpo game and I believe with proper nfl development he could be a quality starter like his brother. sad to see a guy like this not be noticed graded as my QB7 this year

Hear me out! He should quit football, get into pro wrestling and in a few months he’ll be introduced as a new member of “the bloodline”
Him n his brother thieves haha
This family of QBs is highly overrated. The older brother is decent and most likely a backup pretty soon. The younger brother just suxs. They both owe Doug Williams, Warren Moon and others for even getting the opportunity to be average and terrible.
He too small
