Best views in ROTHERHITHE and Surrey Quays - Part 1

- In this episode of the "Best views in ... " series, we're in one of my favourite districts in London - Rotherhithe , walking towards Surrey Quays ( Part 2 coming soon ). Along this southern side of the Thames Path are some of London finest skyline views, despite the fact we have no elevation apart from the one hill that we also visit in the area.
Join me on this first leg of a riverside walk, as I show you the best viewpoints for skyline photography in Rotherhithe.
New in this video is the way I pinpoint the exact locations. From time to time you'll see a pop-up with What3Words - if you're not familiar with the app, it's a mapping way of describing exact locations, that is simplier than using geographic coordinates. Download the free app, type in the three words and you will know exactly where I was.

This is where I stay in London. So nice to see how much you love it
Thanks a lot, it’s just one of my favourite areas in town
Rotherithe is the most underrated urban viewing point of London. Good thing I just live across the river to Rotherithe
I agree, and it’s just such a pleasant area for a stroll or a photo walk
@@LondonViewpoints yep
really professional videos man so underrated
I've followed your Instagram page for a long time and the quality of photos you produce is exceptional! As someone who's grown up in Rotherhithe/Surrey Quays my whole life, this video was awesome
Thanks a milion, such kind words especially from someone who grew up there makes me feel proud of creating this video 😀
amazing shots- i love london and i love these areas with views of the london metropolis since being young- and im moving to this area pretty soon so i cannot wait to have daily walks here and watch the sunris/sunset
If you enjoy views and walking, you’ll love living there
@@LondonViewpoints thanks I'm glad I found you video... The house I viewed is literally across the road and round corner from the view of canary wharf.. And I literally travelled 3 bus stops and walked all the way to the station.... Such an amazingly rewarding place' got to admit for such'' cheap rent ''considering London
I discovered that area since few weeks and I just love it ☺️☺️☺️
So cool, right ? 😀
Wow. What a beautiful reflection timelapse 👌
Thank you ☺️
Stunning skyline and editing!
Thank you ☺️skyline is naturally stunning but I appreciate the fact you enjoyed my editing most
Would part 2 be next Saturday.
Great work as usual. Can't wait 4 pt2
Thanks, I hoping to get it finished within the next 2 weeks as I’ll be fairly busy next week . It’ll be worth the wait though 😉
Such a great video, Michael! I love that you've added timestamps and what3words tags to the video, it makes it so easy for those of us looking to emulate your shots 👌🏻 and it's lovely just being given a tour around London, the fact that the whole video is in 4K makes for fantastic lunchtime viewing too ✨ it goes without saying of course that the photos were incredible, keep up the great work!
Thanks a lot, so glad you’re finding the w3w tags useful 😀 also 4k (even tho I don’t have a 4k tv) I hope is a nice viewing too☺️
Loves this entire content. Great video mate
Thank you my friend 👍🏻glad to hear it
Nicely done Michal 👏👏 and your voice over work… sounding more and more pro each time 👌 💯
Thanks a lot Greg😀the audio sessions definitely helped to improve my horrible voice but still lots to learn
I think this is the best area for photography of London skyline.
From river level, I agree 😀👍🏻
Think this might be one of my favourite videos of yours so far. Well done. That holy grail timelapse is just gorgeous, the reflections and soft light is to die for.
Oh that’s too kind of you Kenny☺️thanks a lot, glad it came out so good. The final timelapse did work well but… wait till part 2, I think I’ve pulled off an even better one 😉
Wow what a View Them Colours of Buildings & the Sky I wondered what happened to the Uber Boats didn't see any I was looking out for them, don't think I'd like the Cold but apart from that Top Vlog buddy
Thanks a lot, it’s a old one, lots has changed since but yes definitely more Uber boats about
I really need to explore that area more, some truly stunning spots! That tower bridge sunset time lapse was gorgeous mate! And the final blue hour 🤩👌🏼
Thanks a lot mate, yes, out of all flat by the river areas I think I like Rotherhithe the most
Great video Michael! I've been a couple of times in that area and it was indeed pretty nice! I really like these videos where you show the location and get some cool Timelapse! The last TL is pretty epic! :)
Thanks a lot Mattia😀glad you’re enjoying my walks and showing my favourite viewpoints in London. It’s my own way of scouting and sharing with others. Next episode has even more timelapses and hyperlapses so can’t wait to start editing it
Absolutely superb 👍🏻
Brilliant video and thank you so much for adding the what3word references
Such good content! subbed
Many thanks ☺️
Fantastic work Michael, really enjoyed seeing the light changes over the various buildings as day merged into night. I’m planning to be in London for a week in September and currently planning locations so this was extremely informative as I shot Canary Wharf from Greenwich last year and looking at being on the south side of the river for an alternative view, so seeing through your perspective was great 👍🏼
Thanks a lot Scotty 😀 if you need an alternative view of Canary Wharf to Greenwich then this is the best one I’d recommend, maybe also try Wapping riverside , I’ll hopefully one day do that video too as there’s some epic views there👍🏻
Great episode Michael & I look forward to the next
Thanks Andrew, next one should be even better 😀
I love Rotherite. I was once looking for a place to live there by the canals but then found it had the worst internet speed of the entire England! I hope it has improved since then.
It was also home of a fantastic pub along the river but unfortunately it has changed management and it's utter crap now (you're showing it for just a second but I won't name and shame it).
Views of course are incredible ☺️
It can’t have worse speed than where I live 🤣 And there’s only one pub I think in the video so I guess that’s the one, heard food and atmosphere used to be great there but if you say it ain’t anymore than I trust you, but apparently they have a 2nd floor view there so maybe next time we go for a pint and a cheeky photo/timelapse there to see if it improved ?
@@LondonViewpoints the pub you're thinking (the small one with the tiny alleyway) is still good, the one I talk about was not clearly shown as pub in the video
😏
I take the pint invite seriously
The internet statistic I mentioned was an official one so yes, it is (was) worse!
@@fabienb hmm than I don’t know, but let’s go for a pint regardless 👍🏻
Awesome stuff 💯👌
Thanks 👍🏻
Just moved there from Bristol, yes it’s definitely 3 times more expensive but nothing can can compare in the uk to living close to the river Thames for me! 😀
I agree, but you’ve picked a great area to live 👍🏻enjoy London
15:58 another bad beast is entering the Canary Wharf skyline. It’s the Aspen Tower which is 216m high!! Can’t wait!
That Aspen Tower does look cool on CGI’s 👍🏻
@@LondonViewpoints yes it does. It is nice and shiny and will only be 4 metres shorter than the Newfoundland Quay tower
@@Yasin_2312 and I hope it won’t be blocking Bokan’s view either
@@LondonViewpoints from the Southwark view, the Novotel (Bokan) tower will still be seen but not from the Greenwich pov
Hopefully the SPIRE will also finally get built!
Brilliant video Michael! What camera equipment did you use on time lapse and YT video? Thanks!
Thanks a lot, the vlog was all on my iPhone 11pro while the timelapses on Nikon Z6 👍🏻
Oh Michael - just brilliant - and amazing too that you are now using W3W locations. Crazy coincidence that only two days ago I was looking at the exact same location for a timelapse plan - i only didn't go today because the forecast was for constant rain all day. How did you feel about running a timelapse with those skanky kids around stealing stuff ?? Did it not make you nervous ?
Thanks again for all you share IG @matt.timelapse
Thanks Matt, glad you liked the video and the w3w locations 👍🏻I didn’t see any dodgy teenagers so felt pretty safe but I do tend to be extra vigilant when it comes to things like that and make a decision if to timelapse or not based on the surrounding, but overall the area is pretty safe, could be isolated incidents 🤷🏼♂️
When the next best views in due ?? Hope not another year wait (nearly)
Well I did the two flat riverside Rotgerhithe ones, and two more from an area nearby are coming soon, as well as planning to go out and shoot more hilly areas😉
@@LondonViewpoints can't wait.
Bro i live at surrey quays and it deserves to be underrated because its dead and not all that good
By dead do you mean quiet ? And that’s what I think is great about it, situated between city and Canary Wharf and yet its pretty quiet and peaceful, I’d love to live there
did you cheat and fade through?? ;)
Hmmm ? Don’t know what you mean by that ?
What camera do you use? Thanks
Nikon Z6 II
