The Duke says, I started hot shotting in 1988 in Houston Texas using a Mazda pickup truck. I put a pipe rack on it to carry 20 ft material. I did good with it. In 1990 I bought a 3/4 ton Dodge 3/4 ton Cummins turbo diesel. After a while I took the bed off and put a flatbed. Have been driving flatbed since but switched to Fords after the Dodge. Currently have a new 2023 Ford f-550 Super duty with 7.3 Godzilla. 205 inch wheel base and 16 ft flatbed. So far so good. In my opinion it's not a good idea to spend a whole bunch of money if you are a newbie. If you are established and know what you are doing then it is okay. You can make more money with a flatbed and drive fewer miles. I don't pull a trailer. Don't need to.
This job ain't for everybody.
But it works for me. Just my two cents.

You cant compare an F450 to F250 without getting into gear ratio. For example a 3:55 is more streetable and would provide vetter fuel economy with the sacrafice of torque. Vs something geared at 4:10-4:80 which will give your more torque and less top end power.
Ive had customers argue sating something is wrong with there 6.7 powerstroke bc their friend is getting 20mpg and hes getting 16mpg. Its all dependent on how you drive, what is it geared at, is tuned, etc ...
What i like about the F-450 is the dana 80 front axle which has a better turning radius. Think of how tow and plow trucks have to work in some tight places. That turning radius saves time and money over time. Get in and get out without having to make extra maneuvers.
