You guys have the best videos I watch every one you post rock on!
Ditto.
Glad TFL pinned this post. /sarcasm
Fun fact, this is the first off-road trail
I ever attempted. I was in an unmodified 2013 Land Cruiser. I also didn’t realize that it was a 9/10 difficulty because I had no experience. I hadn’t told anyone that I was going off-roading, so it was pretty scary.
Obviously I turned around at the gatekeeper they mentioned 😂
I love seeing what the RR is capable of. I have an unhealthy obsession over the Raptor series.
The raptor vehicles are awesome
As a proud owner of a 2018 Raptor, they are everything they claim to be.
Raptors are just freaking cool!
This is the Ranger Raptor content we’ve been waiting for. Worth a watch.
That "outdated" 4runner sure don't look so outdated on the trail does it. 💪🏻 Nice job James.
Thanks 👍
Finally!! A real Ford Ranger Raptor video from TFL. I was waiting for the Cyber truck to show up 😢. Looks like an incredible factory stock vehicle. With the side steps removed, it would be in a very rare class of everyday vehicles. Great on and off road. Great video TFL.
Yeah honestly the ranger raptor and ZR2s are just incredibly capable factory trucks.
@@turbobros_online1561
Would be nice if both ran the same trail.
Cyberdumpster broke
Thanks Tommy! Your little adventure on that trail finally convinced me to drive 600 miles to a dealer in the middle of nowhere to get my hands on the Ranger Raptor. At the moment they're not easy to find and unfortunately the dealers also know that. The MSRP is around $60k, dealers at the moment charge around $65-70k for it.
While I do own that 5th generation 4Runner you guys had in the video, and yes its A-TRAC system has no competition out there, I got sick of its abysmal engine power on the highway (especially here in Colorado at high elevation) and the lack of creature comforts. Was considering the new lineup from Toyota as well, but their brand new engines and transmissions seem to be plagued with problems at the moment. Hope they get them sorted out eventually.
The one thing you omitted from your videos Tommy is how overpowered that Raptor is 🙂Driving it back home, I was easily passing cars on the highway, irrespective of the fairly aggressive BFG KO3s it comes with. Buttery smooth drive. It put a big smile on my face 🙂Fingers crossed it won't let me down.
Ko2
few around here msrp
@@jason7231nope…KO3’s
@@jason7231no. They have K03’s. It’s a new tire.
@@jason7231 Have you seen them?
The RR is the Raptor for me. Just right size and capability off the showroom floor.
finally! more Ranger Raptor content please!
RR is a damn beast for an out of the box truck that is an awesome truck for daily on the road.
A 2" lift on that RR with 35" tires, and it would be an absolute beast...
Exactly what i have, and yes it is. Full underbody protection and sliders and it goes anywhere
@@4WDProdigy I have a RR in transit from Ford. Which lift did you install? Thanks.
And no way a 4 runner survives 35s with out insane mods
@@JohnSmith-zi9orim curious about this too? Because the ranger raptor has amazing ride quality i dont want to ruin it with a lift. But when i get mine i do want to lift it😂
Nice job Tommy! That Ranger Raptor is badass….
It sure is!
The Ranger Raptor is just fantastic. TFL as always just epic.
This was by far one of the better videos you all have done lately. Great work. Put that ranger raptor to work!
I like the car reviews but I love it when you guys get back to comparing offroaders in the real world! Great job!
It’s hard to make obstacles look steep on camera. This looked steep!
Yeah, cameras flatten out terrain and give people the "I could do that in my Corolla" feeling.
When a camera parallel with the ground is pointing straight at some clouds in the sky, you know it's steep.
As the owner of a 2019 Gen 2 Raptor and 2014 Gen 1 Raptor I’d say the side steps work nicely as intended (to stop rocks from flying up and hitting your fenders during high speed desert running). They were never intended as rock sliders and do reduce clearance when rock crawling.
Back in the older years we rocked trail challenges without all of this tech stuff. I guess our tech in those days was simply different more analog I guess which did work & perform!
All in all, I am simply glad that the off-road world 🌎 still is evolving 🤘🏽👍🏽. Great job guys!!
It’s off-road season in Colorado! Great to see the videos rolling out at TFL 🥳
Very cool!
Great seeing the Ranger Raptor tackling this trail. Definitely a good excuse now to remove the running boards and install rock rails.
Excellent video Tommy looks like a pro going up that trail. That Ranger Raptor is just next level for a factory truck. I'am glad Ford keep with the V6 in their mid size truck.
*brought back a V6*
Unfortunately it's not going to stay longer
2.7L is coming as well.
Being an FX4 owner, I'd love to see comparisons like this with Raptor vs FX4 with 2.3L
If you want to show the steep angles, grab a 360 cam and suction it to the roof. You can enable horizon lock and it'll sufficiently show the angles
I love the Ford Ranger Raptor
Nathan’s just left Colorado and they have already replaced him with a look a like!
This guy has been on another video.
Haha
Great video guys thank you!
Middle of the obstacle, horizon flat, no fisheye/wide lens. LIKE AT 8:22. I appreciate the better perspective on these trails.
Looking forward to watching! Thanks have a Blessed Day!
That was very brave of Nathan to bring his 4Runner to this challenge. Bravo!
James not Nathan
@@derrickpmeh, no difference.
I really enjoy most of your content, but the Raptor is designed for speed in the desert, not rock crawling. Thanks for showing its potential. I have owned two different 4 runners and they are simply under powered. Ford has the best off road trucks with Raptor series, period.
The 4Runner cleared it all just with A-TRAC--amazing!
Gen 5 is a true classic. I’m worried about the new one coming out.
I think it had a rear locker.
It has a 2.5 inch lift as well as other stuff but this is why people bought the previous gen 4Runners (and Tacos). Super capable and super reliable. This is what Toyota trucks are meant to be.
Along with a lift ,bigger tires, a locker and high clearance bumper lol
he said in the first minute its heavily modified. smh
Just got my order confirmation on my 2.7 XLT FX4 Ranger yesterday. Can’t wait to seeing what it does.
I just did the desoto mine trail in Arizona in my ‘08 tundra w/a 3” lift on 35’s and it is rated 6/10 and I beat up my skid plates a bit. My t-case skid got hit hard😬. Granted, there were no bypasses. Totally fun and would do it again. Don’t think I want to do anything harder though, just good to know that my truck can do something that hard.
Oh yeah baby, now we cooking! More of this please!
Good job guys, much better than the "test track" videos.
Good stuff. Exactly the type of thing I enjoy most from this channel. More i see of this particular Raptor the more I like it. Hope they turn out reliable. Enjoyed you guys having a 4runner alongside, now I know my TRD ORP can handle it too, albeit with a bypass or two. Might have to check it out next time I'm in the northern part of the state
Glad you enjoy it!
That climb literally looked like absolute nuts on camera.
"If you wanna make an omelette you gotta break some eggs" HAhAHA thanks great video!
Great video! Was waiting for the “my CR-V FWD could do that” comments lol.
That Ford Raptor Kicks A** !!! Bone stock.... Hands Down ! Get one of the new Taco's on this trail STOCK and... Lets see what it can do... ( LAUGH !!!! )
Love the Ranger Raptor!! Great Video!
Us too!
NOTE TO MYSELF;
Never ask Roman to be my spotter 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah he’s absolutely horrible!
I was going to say the same 😂😂
"Yes, now just slam your rear diff into that rock again" - Roman
He tries to tear stuff up.
@@TimeMariner that’s the thing - I don’t think he tries. Just can’t spot and/or see proper off-road lines.
I’ve never really liked Ford, but that Raptor is pretty rad.
Great video TFL! Thanks
Rating systems vary quite a bit. This being a 9/10 is interesting considering that would only leave 1 number left to the maximum of 10.
Awesome seeing the raptor in action. Saw your pop at Whole Foods a couple weeks back. Said hi but didn’t want to bother him so late in the day. Hope to see you guys in action some time! @tfloffroad
Beautiful!
Great video! That Raptor looked amazing going up and down the hill.
It’s time to swap the steps for sliders!!!
For sure!!
Awesome video.
Looks like a fun trail.
Sweet, you could really get a sense for how steep the trails are. Also appreciate Tommy mentioning the gradient.
You folks do a very good job. *******
awesome video !
Thanks!
He didn't use the lockers to see how the traction control will do, Why TF did you lock the Raptor then!
Great video.
I am surprised TFL has never done a KDSS 4Runner vs non KDSS off road comparison video.
The Raptor needs the side steps to be replaced with beefy full weight rock sliders
Love that 3.0L in the Raptor, but wish it had Port injection
Awesome job, boys! Way to wheel Tommy, most impressive!!!
Thank you 🤗
I feel like turning on an off road mode should automatically disable the parking sensors...
This is why I like my 'dinosaur' gen2 pro4x, no beeping noise in the name of safety, just simple and functional, push the locker button or 4 x4 drove mode and you are good
That looked like a scary good time!
Sweet that you guys are actually going out and properly testing vehicles. There is a major flaw in onX offroad though and that's their rating system. In reality that trail is a 6 at most and that would even be high. 9 is ridiculous considering a 10 is a buggy rated trail. The whole point of the rating system is to inform people of what to expect. For comparison Fordyce is rated a 9... and these two trails compared as the same on the app is just silly.
I agree no way a truck that low would even attempt a 9
That makes sense, that rating sounded wrong
Love my ranger raptor more every day. So much I am replacing my tundra with a raptor or RHO. The RHO seems to be better optioned at a lower price.
What is RHO?
@@johnbest2946 the less powered TRX replacement
Definitely replace the side steps with rock rails, but in the mean time a little nail polish will prevent any rust without being obvious.
I’m not even close to being a ford fan but the Ranger provides the best bang for your buck. Ton of capability for the price.
I thought that was Nathan for 2 seconds 😂😂😂
I want this truck! Pretty much got laughed out of the 4 Ford dealers in Denver I went to asking for one. Even willing to pay a Mark up.
Great video
Thanks!
Man, the last portion of the climb was ring puckering!
This video makes me want to take my bronco out into the woods
It would be curious to see the LR3 tackle this trail. It looks pretty challenging
If I were buying today knowing what I know, for a pure off roader, I’d still be shopping for a Gladiator Rubicon ecodiesel. It’s 6 years old at this point (think JL design), but it just works. With the deals to be had on 2023’s, no way I spend over MSRP for a Raptor or 4Runner with IFS.
The ranger raptor would actually be $67000 with the ridiculous dealer mark ups.
Does it seem like the lockers on the 4Runner weren’t on? lol seems like the guy with the 4 runner was relying on the atrack system vs lockers and a little extra gas pedal haha. Cool video either way 👍
James, great to see you on the channel again!
Anthony B.
Kelly Flats is no joke. It's my understanding most obstacles do have an "easier" line like at 8:00 but even then its still a challenge
Awesome
35’s on the raptor would be something
This is definitely the Ranger Raptor videos I wanted to see! I may even buy one now!
Great trail, good rigs.
Thanks 👍
Outstanding!
Did I hear that right? That the Yota was only about 5k less pre covid?
I heard 37k for truck, and 15k to get it where it is.
Again, pre covid pricing.
Makes Ranger look even better without all the extras needed
Did he buy it new?
@JonBecker81 that's a good question. I honestly don't know what they were MSRP.
But still, the value is about even. (Depending on if you are a "Toyota lasts forever" guy or not)
We should get a rig rundown on James’ 4R!
A solid car
Do you have guys have a video with the ZR2 on this trail?
this video made me really consider the RangerRaptor
I just came off that trail in a Gladiator. Super fun trail!
Great job I think you should put some 37s on that bronco a couple of rock sliders and maybe a 2 inch lift and do some other videos like this awesome job
It's not a bronco
Hope you post ranger raptor modifications you find to improve rock crawling body protection…great video on a difficult trail showing capabilities.
Bei house australia covers that for us down under. Im sure a US company will too. 4mm steel right the way back, rock sliders and gmf4x4 protection around the trailing arm and chassis sensors is what you need
Question for TFL and for all the other off-roaders out there reading this. When you mentioned seeing vehicles roll while off road, (trying to figure out how to word this), i can imagine more than not the vehicle would be totaled after that, how does this affect your insurance? Do they payout if you claim it? I’m very curious how that works TBH… I’m a Washington State certified Driving Instructor and Examiner (Former Military Police) and where I live we have a lot of young people who love to off road and this would be a good topic for me to discuss with them about.
Get full coverage should cover it, any mods must be declared to insurance ahead of time
@@chadleatherby3309 negative. All off-road trails are not covered by insurance. Many guys will tow the vehicle to a dirt road listed as a standard road and then file the claim at that location. But if you are off-roading on a uhv trail it will be excluded from coverage
Your side steps are galvanized, so they're not going to rust. My Gen1 Raptor has the same "issue" where the choosing is peeled. Been that way for 3 years and 0 rust because of the Galvanization.
Tumbleweed was probably a tax right off.
Yes indeed. The tax write-off people send us bid checks every week 😉
For someone who moved to Colorado 13 years ago for off roading. He made a pretty doable obstacle look impossible.
"This Ranger Raptor is crushing it" , as he takes all the bypass routes
Should try a tremor also
They should’ve had a ZR2 up there to accurately compare. They have compared the AT4X against the RR, but it’s wasn’t crawling like this
Trails Offroad rates this trail a 5, with optional lines up to 7. A 9/10 trail is a rock garden where 40"+ tires are required and body damage/winching is almost guaranteed. OnX needs to re-evaluate their rating system.
LOL, when will a PHEV Raptor Ranger be available?
I'm curious on how much power loss that 4runner lost with everything added.
We need to see how the Tacoma pro preforms on this trail .
How about comparing some desert running?
Tommy, how would you compare the Ranger Raptor to the Gladiator you had?
