    Thank you for the excellent comparison of the the two trims plus add-ons.
    I just bought a ‘23 XLT Super Cab 6 3/4 box on a special order. It only took six weeks to build and deliver.
    I don’t care for a whole lot a gadgets so I tend to trim level down. For instance, I like analog gauges as opposed to the LCD screen. On that same note I prefer the smaller 8” center screen to the 12”. I can see the smaller one just as well with less distraction. I like cloth bench seats without the center console. I just like the floor board open between the seats and don’t care for the bulky through console.
    There are some gadgets I do like but if I can’t order them outside of a huge expensive package then I go with out them or look for a reasonable after market product. I am installing SiriusXM much cheaper than I would have had to pay for the entertainment package it was included in.
    I tried to order the spray in bed liner but the dealer said the order bank wouldn’t take it. Easy-peasy…I just went to Line-X the week after delivery and had it done better to include a package deal with Bak-Flip tonneau. I also had them do the running boards which match the blacked out OEM rims and side badges I purchased while waiting for the truck. So, it’s like having the appearance package on the sides but with chrome up front and out back.
    I mean, I believe “to each is own”. Make it what you like because after all it’s your hard earned money.

    Man what a great comparison! This is what a lot of people are interested in. But don’t forget the XLT had the fifth wheel prep package and pro power on board in addition to the high output engine. If you made all those things equal the price spread is going to be quite a bit different. Also the fifth wheel prep and the pro power inverter setup are two very heavy options. And don’t forget the additional upgrades to the HO, cooling etc. that’s why the payload is lower on the XLT.

    One hidden upgrade of Lariat and plus trims, the front row side windows are Acoustic Laminated.🤑
    One question for you JB, do you feel the 23 super duty’s steering input are heavier than the previous gen particularly the higher trims? Ford doesn’t offer Adaptive Steering on the 23 MY because of chip shortage I guess.

  • @jetdriver
    @jetdriver Před 11 měsíci

    I think you make a very fair point and absolutely if your speccing a truck with a lot of options consider the next trim level up and does that represent good value for you.
    That being said there are builds where the next trim level up adds cost but not a lot in terms of value. In that case the extra couple of thousand for the next trim up isn’t a good bargain.

  • @SurelyYewJest
    @SurelyYewJest Před rokem +7

    WTF is up with those setups. The Lariat wins every time in this one. Even with less bolted to it the XLT is 60-70 lbs lower on payload. This is why pickup optioning is so confusing and inscrutable. The idea of an XLT in the $80k range is absurd to me, and here's the proof. Scratch the HO engine; it's not necessary for anything south of 26k lbs. But the 4289 lbs payload on the Lariat is A LOT; it's basically what my 11,500 GVWR 2017 would have if it was rated for 12,400 GVWR. GM's 3500 SRWs have high payloads, too.
    Guh. It sucks wanting something so much but not even needing it. ;)

    I understand your point; but in my case I had a 2001 XLT then a Lariat in 2004, back to a XLT in 2015. I ordered my 2021 F350 XLT. There were items on the Lariat that I didn't use or did not want; such as the leather seats, 20" wheels (tires are a lot more $$$ at replacement time) power adjustable pedals, up-fitter switches and a couple of other minor items. Net/net for me was about $5k savings. But I do agree, it makes more sense in the long run to order a Lariat vs a loaded up XLT with the same options.

    Great video. Good information to know. Someone told me that the 23‘s come with electric parking brakes and with electric parking breaks you get four wheel braking. Whats you knowledge on this? And maybe it might be something you could cover in a future video on Ford electric brakes. That’ll be real nice for loading / unloading vehicles / construction equipment onto and off of trailers. Thx JB

    I bought a 2020 F30 XLT in March 2020 and it cost me $80k CAD (about 60kUSD at the time). It has the XLT premium package, console, heated seats, panoramic roof, 360 camera, fifth wheel prep, long bed FX4 package. I wanted leather so I put custom catskinz in it for $2k CAD that match the platinum leather seats (much nicer leather than the lariats come with in that year). I then went ahead and bought aftermarket LED headlights for $2500CAD. I had chrome bumpers so I painted them for around $1200CAD. The asking price for a lariat was 91kCAD+tax at the time. In my opinion I came out with a Lariat sport for $6k+tax less than buying a lariat. Is the dual climate control worth it?

    I have a 2023 F250 Lariat super duty and if it was up to ME I would have ordered a XLT. The wife HAD to have leather! Ordered mine in October 22 and received in April 23 and it was just under $80K. The sticker was just over $80K, but the dealer honored the original quote.
    ALSO, I ordered a regular Lariat and did not get the Ultimate package. The regular Lariat has the vinyl door cards and dash. Also has two tone seats which are not quite as nice as the Ultimate package. I bet Ford does away with either the XLT or Lariat one day. The last FORD XLT with leather was in 2014 I believe (my friend has one).

  • @andyjones611

    Here in Canada, the difference between a Lariat and an XLT With the same engine 6.7 reg power stroke is 6000$ . This with the same or equivalent equipment, the sports package is costlier here too because you can order the XLT luxury package and it automatically comes with the 4100$ sports package no matter what. So Ford wants you to buy a Lariat vs. an XLT. Good point great video

    Yeah, I caught myself doing this with a Chevy 3500 LT. Grabbed almsot every option available and it was only a few grand cheaper than an almost fully loaded LTZ, but the LTZ had more stuff that you can't get on the LT at all (like power extending mirrors, the Bose sound system, ventilated front seats, etc.).
    Only reason I didn't move up to the High Country from there is I prefer the interior coloring of the LTZ and want either the Z71 Sport Package, or the all-chrome front, and don't like that the High Country gets a painted bumper but a chrome grill.

    • @factionfx
      @factionfx Před 11 měsíci

      STX definitely a great price point and a lot of functionality. 360 cameras just make sense to be standard in these. XLT is actually quite a bit better. Been building them online and for within a couple thousand dollars, you can get a fully spec'd XLT premium with console and bigger screen when compared to STX. the full LCD gauges and larger screen on XLT premium really make the truck experience POP. only 2-3k difference in price. Seems like completely different truck when you sit in it.

    • @jasonengland2357
      @jasonengland2357 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@factionfx I do wish I got the bigger center screen for trailer viewing but I absolutely hate the digital gauges offered in this truck. To get an XLT with premium pack you also have to get sport appearance pack too. So to get an XLT with those two alone makes the MSRP $77,060 so that’s $7k more than mine to get digital dash, a bigger center screen, B&O stereo, running boards, slider back glass and remote start. Not worth the difference for those items on a work truck.

    So I would tend to agree with you mostly on this however I want to point out everyone has a budget. Maybe that budget is firmly 82,000. Maybe it’s a lot less. But regardless being able to spec the XLT (or an LT Chevy) with the options they are allowing now is a good way to keep people on budget. Because a loaded LT or XLT will always be 3-5k less than a loaded LTZ or Lariat. In this case that’s the difference in getting the new HO Powerstroke.
    So just keep that in mind. Everyone has a budget whether it’s 50k or 100k.

    One of the most important options to me is the Adaptive Cruise Control. That is only available on a Lariat with the Ultimate package and higher trims. Other than that must have feature, I'd get an XLT. My 21 6.7 dually has so much torque, I can't imagine needing more (the high output).

      @bret9741 Před 8 měsíci +2

      Sorry, but the price of these trucks are just insane. But then $20,000 of every ford truck goes to subsidies the money loosing EV’s and another $30,000 goes I paying employee, their pensions, lifetime medical, and the massively wasteful union work rules that destroy worker productivity.
      That leaves $10,000 for the dealership and then$10,000-$20000 profit to Ford.

    • @awdeveau
      @awdeveau Před 8 měsíci +3

      Adaptive cruise control is one of those things that will spoil you. If you've never had it you won't miss it and will consider it another unnecessary gimmick or expense. But after having it it's hard to go back to a vehicle that doesn't have it.
      I made three round trips from Florida to Maine this year and when in heavy traffic it's so nice to be able to have the vehicle keep pace with traffic, especially in stop and go traffic jams. I also find myself setting it if I'm going to be a little distracted for a second, like setting the gps or whatever else might take a little attention away, even in town. Just a little added safety if someone slams on brakes or pulls out in front of you.

    I agree. I don't know why people do that (get an XLT and add a TON of options, which sometimes makes it more expensive than a Lariat). Even if you dont want leather seats, you could just put nice seat covers on leather and still better off with Lariat.

    Xlt is the best in my opinion. Not too much nonsense. Personally i have a 2018 f150 xlt, without the tow package. The interior is a dream for me. Nice cloth seats, no infotainment. The way a truck should be.
    Shame infotainment is standard now i just dont like having a clunky computer screen in my vehicles that doesnt always work properly.
    Nonetheless the xlt is the better deal. Plenty luxurious for my taste. Cozy seats.

    $85,000 for a pickup truck??? Can't believe people will pay that. Probably double what it should be. Guess I've been around too long!

      They are nice and the AT4 is very nice with the tan / beige trim.
      The bad part is.... have ya seen the video of the 2500 Shifter.... right in the way of the new updated screens on GM/Chevy. I'm sure they'll fix that next refresh.

      Ford gave up on its customers IMHO.
      I’ve been to Ford dealers lately and extremely disappointed in the quality to price.
      Folks keep buying them though, so Ford must be thinking, “let’s do less, so we can get more profit”.
      Toyota is about to smash American midsize trucks and if they come back with FJ cruiser, that crap they call a bronco will be killed. Let’s put a moped engine in the long awaited Bronco. 😂😂
      And when they realize it sucks, let’s release a raptor version that extremely overpriced…yea yea

      I've been all about painted bumpers for a while but I'm starting to not like them. Have to PPF them immediately and then be careful what car washes you go through or what cleaning products you use. And the chrome looks bigger/meaner.
