    Couple of things to note. Firstly with regards to a DIY catalyst a small piece of pure silver will work. Secondly, the clay or ceramic pot on the end is non ordinary clay ceramic it is impregnated with silver which breaks the peroxide existing the Oxydator into water and super O2.

      BTW there is an Oxydator user group on Facebook with lots of info on Oxydators both fresh water, marine and for ponds.

    Has anybody ever tested one of those ? How effective are they? Are we talking minuscule, or dramatic difference? I'm just curious if anyone has come across any good information on them weather it's positive or negative

    Could you let us know what is the catalyst used in this oxydator ( any metal) ?
    Can we do a diy for this catalyst?

    • @Rene046
      @Rene046 Před 5 lety +4

      Great DIY tip Mark.
      the catalyst contains a bid of silver that is decomposing hydrogen peroxide inside into oxygen and water building up pressure inside the container en pushing a bid of hydrogen peroxide into the water so don't forget to make a small hole in the cap and when bubbles stop coming out there is only water left inside or very diluted hydrogen peroxide.
      Tip if you buy the original hydrogen peroxide there is also 12% and higher for almost the same price, you can add Demineralized water to it to make 2 liter..

  • @95_Nepentheses
    @95_Nepentheses Před rokem

    I wonder if it'd be possible to cut a piece of the catalytic part of one of those disposable cases for peroxide based contact lens cleaning solutions instead of buying a catalyst.

    Hi Mark, brilliant idea! Thanks!
    But can i use 3% Hydrogen Peroxide instead of 6%?
    Do i need to use bigger bottle and bigger (or 2 small pieces) catalyst for a bigger aquarium or how does it work?

    I've always wanted to buy one of the oxidator every time I see one on the online shops I always temp to buy it but the price for them are to high cost for me to justify myself buying few(x3) for my nano tanks.
    All the DiYs on utube estheticly awful. if u could would be grate if u could show on the posting the composition of the oxidator put together so myself and others who don't know the actual construction of it can have a clear picture.
    that is y I haven't tried to DIY an oxidator, wasn't enticing making one not understanding how it looks and work.
    eg.I've always thought the black clay base was an airstone, releases Micro oxygen bubbles& part filter. see what kind of dummy I am.
    So bubbles releases through the tiny 2pin holes that's on the plastic lid?
    THANkU !!

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi. Thats how the oxydator works. The pressure slowly builds up in the jar and slowly pushes out the peroxide into the aquarium were it turns to oxygen.👍😀

    Hi Mark, I am having a bit of a problem and would love your help!! I have an established tank with crystal reds. I decided to add some orange shrimp so they wouldn't hybridise. I acclimated them over 3 hours using the drip method. I added them to the tank and went to bed. I woke up and went to check on them and every single orange shrimp was dead!!! I was shocked and after testing can only assume the pH was too low (parameters to follow). All the original shrimps are all ok. Yesterday I bought some yon crystal reds and after acclimating for a short period there were 2 dead in the container. I decided at that point it might be the shop water so i added them in to the main tank. As of this morning I found another 3 of the new CRS dead, can onto see 1 new CRS alive and another 3 unaccounted for. I'm at a complete loss. Is there anything you can suggest as to the cause? My parameters are as of today (no water change): GH: 5, KH = 2, pH = 6.4 0 NO2. NO3 and NH4 and a temp of 21C. Many thanks

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  Před 7 lety +1

      Well that is strange to lose all of them!! One thing it could be is they couldn't molt.Any change in there water parameters will trigger a molt if where you got them from had bad water this could have been the cause of death.not being able to throw off the old shell.

    Hi mark, where does the oxygen exit from? Is there a hole on the stopper or somewhere else?

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi. There is two pin holes in the plastic lid as the pressure builds up from the oxygen being released form the catalyst into the bottle it pushes out very small drips of hydrogen peroxide out into the aquarium water which then turns to oxygen.

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  Před 7 lety +1
