Rhett defeats Pinder again in the battlefield of facts and logic
Take a Yakemchuck or Iginla over an American player. They have a connection here already. Deny it all you want. Americans would prefer to play in a US based city.
Another reason to draft Tij, he’s born in Calgary, and even if he doesn’t make gigantic money, I’m sure he’ll be ok considering his dad made plenty of money
Except I hear he’s a oilers fan 😳
Pinder you're out of touch and downplaying. The Flames put up their second best season in franchise history before Johnny and Mattew left. There's a big difference between American players and Euro players. Euros have to leave their home country to play in the NHL no matter what, they don't really care if they play in Canada or USA. Americans can have their cake and eat it too, and they're going to start following Tkachuk's lead and leaving as soon as they're able. A few exceptions like JT Miller does not disprove the trend that is playing out before our eyes. Americans are the most risky nationality for Canadian teams to draft and build around right now, and that's just reality.
Adam Fox, Johnny Gaudreau, Matt Tkachuk, Noah Hanifin… what’s that expression about doing the same thing and expecting a different result? 🤷🏻
Hanafin was drafted by Carolina traded there with Lindholm for Hamilton and couple other things
@@justinhockey2625 but Hanny opted to sign in Vegas even though it was fairly close to what he was being offered to stay in Calgary
These kids nowadays are too soft and dont want to play in a market thats going to shit on you when you arent playing at a high level for what your paid
EDIT: the canadian housing market, outragous food costs, and a bafoon running the show isnt helping either.
No American players in Canada
The best Canadian team is full of Americans
Didn't even watch the video, but BIG YES, avoid them if possible.
Flames need to draft canadian born or european players
Quinn Hughes, JT Miller, Thatcher Demko, Brock Boeser, Conor Garland, Dakota Joshua. Hmm these American’s seem like they’re pretty good at playing against the oilers…
all the players had career years under sutter then cryed he too tough so they all cash in
That’s a no brainer- we should definitely not draft nor acquire American born players
you're being stupid. you take BPA regardless of nationality EVERY time
deal with consequences after and if they wanna leave, you trade them ahead of time to get assets back. don't know why you should overcomplicate things and only draft canadians or russians
Dont draft Americans, Canadians and Euro's only. Not worth that hassle
I said the day Tanev was traded ,i wouldn't be surprised if he signs back here day 1 of free agency. Tanev is the rype of player that would sign a discount in my opinion he was treated amazing with the team and the fans .i know Canuck fans would love him back but with the way the team treated him i dont think he would go back there.
It's tempting to say the Flames should avoid drafting players born in US states and territories. Of Canada's NHL teams, going from west to east, from the 2010-'19 Entry Draft, among players known to have US citizenship by birth or descent, the:
- Canucks drafted 9 of 14 players no longer under contract to that team
- Flames drafted 13 of 14 players no longer under contract to that team
- Oilers drafted, all 12 are no longer under contract to that team
- Jets drafted, 15 of 19 are no longer under contract to that team
- Leafs in 2017 drafted d-man Tim Liljegren, a Swedish-born citizen of his homeland and the US (the latter via his NJ-born dad) but 12 of 16 others no longer are under contract
- Sens drafted all but 2 of over a dozen no longer under contract to that team
- Habs drafted, all but 2 are no longer under contract to that team, with Rhett Pitlick on that team's reserve list
Absolutely 💯
The taxes in Canada isn't helping either
YES and Yes. That's why you draft Tij❤
Yes
I am not a Flames fan nor an enemy, but I would draft Canadian players. If you draft American players they will want to return to the states after putting up with border BS for years. Its way easier for Canadian players to see their families when playing on a Canadian team. The main reason is the border,if we had an open border like in Europe it would be different.
It’s not an American problem it’s a Calgary problem.
Elias Lindholm wants out as well.
Dougie Hamilton wanted out too.
Of all the cities you can live in if you are an NHL player Calgary is got to be in the bottom 5. You then add in the pressure of playing in Canada that a lot of players don’t like.
Turbo on point as usual Pinder on DMT as usual
Rhett us cirrect here, draft the best Canadian at #9. No Americans in first round, to risky.
yes
I agree with Rhett 100% I would not risk a 1st rd. pick on an American. If the next rated player is Canadian take him. Gaudreau planned on leaving all along & screwed the flames over. so they could get no return. Chucky trade I can live with. But it is still an obvious & legitimate concern. If you are not bought in 100% you are not going to perform @ 100%. Don,t care who it is!!!!
Yea take em and give them away at 26-27 years old and get a good return!!
Pinder WTF have you not witnessed the last two years.
It’s takes 4/5 years to develop and then you finally get good and ok let em go.
lol!!!!!!
Yes, I’d be afraid of American players.
It should absolutely be a factor. American players don’t want to be here, than we don’t want American players. Draft more Sask kids, they’re pretty good too
100% agree.
Get a better season & trade Coranado. No more Americans, or draft & trade as assets only. Its a waste of a rebuild to build around Americans (they just did that last 10 years).
These Americans players are all soft & entitled & grew up focused on individual skills vs team first mentality.
Pinder a contrarian for the sake of being one. lol
Pinder can never be wrong. Rhett is 100% right.
I'm sure the oldest arena in the league doesn't help...
Won't matter with draft picks. 2-3 years and the new building will be open. They have to break ground this summer. Permits will be passed quick.
Pinder wants to be right so bad its exhausting.
Rhett is right, stay away from drafting high american players because they will likely leave!
Canada is kind of a farm league? Ouch
Bruh Tkachuk and Gaudreau leaving broke yall. You take the best player available. Some americans dont wanna play in Canada just like some europeans and canadians dont want to either. Its a risk you take with all players.
Take a look at how many Canadians ARE LEAVING, and happy to do it. This Govt is Garbage.
Then stop going for american players if they truely dont want to be here and its about winning culture number 1 taxes and money number 2
Only draft canadians from the whl
Avoid drafting clowns
I'm more concerned of the sweds on the team. Lindholm was a cancer, Markstrom is all over the map and Backstrom is the worst Captain in team history.
Only draft calgarians!!
Yes
