What I love about my RA65 Toyota Celica GTS

  • This is my RA65 Toyota Celica GT-S. It's awesome. It's the car that got me back into cars after I had fallen out of love with automobiles. It's one of the rare early cars with a carburated 22R and solid rear axle. It has a lot of motor work, a lightened flywheel, good stiff springs from King Motorsports. It's as old as I am and just a simple analog joy to drive!

    Grabbed one of these bc I am obsessed with the shape. Felt an emotional attachment as soon as I saw the body.
    Would love to talk to you at length about restoring mine and the process you went through.

    My mom had a 1982 Celica GT 5spd hatch back in college. Ever since she told me what car she had, I've been looking into videos on them, see if I can get her nostalgic for one again. Great video!

    my father just bought this exact car a few months ago. 22r carb with the solid rear axle, but full gts package with louvers, seats and flares, etc. from what ive gathered, they are still RA64 as gt models, but i know the first few years were overly confusing as there are exceptions to this all the time. Love what youve done to yours, awesome stuff.

    I've had this car it was my 1st car I bought on my own, super super fun, no doubt and a 91 Nardi limited edition brg Miata, both were fun, miata was way more fun. What's even more fun is the Model S I drive now. Other than that no gas car is more fun than a fully tuned LE Miata

      @nedicusmaximus7813  Před 5 lety +1

      I actually have a 96 Miata as well and while I really enjoy it I prefer the rawness of the Celica. However the Celica is pretty built and the Miata is pretty stock so there's a difference there. I actually like the solid rear axle in the Celica. It's not the best for handling but it is great for burnouts.

      @@nedicusmaximus7813 completely understandable, it's very cool to know of someone else , who's into business , and had/has a Celica GT and a miata. :) I guess I'm in the opposite my Celica was stock, (she was my 1st lol) all others were my father's handle downs. Miata was tuned out, by the factory. Since we both had the opposite vehicle stock, it all makes sense now. :) thanks for the video makes my good memories come back. Try a tesla model S ,.sometime I know you'll like it (Any model actually.) The S make a me feel like I'm in a totl tuned supra! I test dr9ve so many 89 supra and loved them so much.

    You mention the car was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. I was wondering where you got this information. It looks like his design, but I havent been able to confirm it anywhere. Toyota says it was a team of internal designers, and its not listed on Giorgetto Giugiaro's wiki page.
    Im not trying to start a beef, I'm truly interested because I have another Giugiaro with my mk1 VW Scirocco.

      Tempting, but my plan at this point is to weld/bolt a Tesla subframe in the back. In which case my tires will stick out 5 inches per side. So I'm going to need to fabricate my own flares anyway. I'm going to just stick with this aspirational goal ...
