    I'm about 2 years into the trade. Looking to get into controls with a commercial HVAC company. I've found residential to be a challenge since I'm not great at peddling IAQ products.

      My suggestion if you want to get into commercial controls get into commercial mechanical 1st. The reason I say that is in order for you to really understand commercial controls you have to understand what the unit is suppose to be doing and how tying in controls makes it work. Without the mechanical understanding it’s so easy to get lost. For example, if you don’t understand how a chiller works and how to read a schematic for a commercial unit, you will be lost. The same for intellipaks, DOASS units, precidents, etc…,

    How did you get started in controls. How do one convert into that side of hvac

      I started with a commercial HVAC company as a mechanical intern. I learned I was interested in controls after my trainer said I should look into it since I was computer savvy. I looked into it and found they even hired interns every so often. But when I talked to the manager of that department he suggested I get more mechanical experience 1st. He was absolutely right. I then got into VRF's and loved it. That helped me understand a little more about controls. They had a opening after I been there for 5yrs and I applied and had no problem getting on. But I will say without mechanical experience you can get completely lost in controls. You have to know how the equipment suppose to respond.

    Whats the work life balance in controls? I know in HVAC and refrigeration it can be constant ...is there on call in controls or is it set hours

    • @alittlebitofeverythinghome4333
      @alittlebitofeverythinghome4333  Před 4 měsíci

      The work life balance in controls is much better than regular HVAC or Refrigeration. You still have on call service where you rotate. But many of the issues can be resolved from home on your laptop.
