If you installed a series of wall-mounted loud speakers and cranked some music, you'd probably wouldn't notice the DC noise at all. Or, if you drove some screws into your toes, you'd likely care less about anything else. Follow me for more shop tips.
Good one bro, I think my tip was better though, lol
But drew, my safety sandals are impervious to screws, have you considered a premium Jimmothy DiResta™ Ice Pick with which you may puncture other body parts? This method seems far more flexible IMO
Lol
ackshully */fixes glasses/* the sounds is coming from your walls - you see, they're haunted and the only way you can test this is to move. I expect an update video posthaste
I added a small enclosure, outside my shop, and moved the dust collector, and trash can, into it, but ran the filter, thru the wall, and back into the shop. I did this so I wouldn't lose my heat/cold in my shop. This dropped by noise level, in the shop, by almost 12 db. Well worth the build time/cost to do it. Good luck in your endeavor.
I worked on an HVAC crew installing sound baffled air ventilation in a new radio station studio. It is very difficult to silence moving air. It requires a combination of insulation, baffles and angles. If the baffles are straight with 90 degree blocking they don't block as much sound as a 15 degree angle and v-shaped baffles to be truly effective.
Is there a particular number of V-shaped baffles you've found to be sufficient?
I've found that personal earmuffs work best. If someone comes to tell me I'm making too much noise I put them on and pretend I can't hear them.
I found that NOT turning on the dust collector greatly reduces noise. I hope my experience helps you or someone else.
Works great for me too, but my nose gets full of dust...😂😂
@@bamsebrumbamsebrumen5403 small price to pay for the quiet...
I highly recommend you move the entire dust collection system to your neighbor's garage and take another reading.
I agree
I know this may seem like an obvious solution, but depending on your setup, and if you are in a basement vs outdoor shed etc. moving you dust collection to an outdoor sound proofed but allowing for airflow anex built off the side of your workshop would mean very little noise if practically any.
I have seen this done by a few UK and european wood workers and they haven't looked back
I really do like a 'told ya so' video 👍
Perhaps you get the same noise reduction if you glue the noise reduction mats at the ceiling and/or one/two walls, since they are hard and reflect all kind of sounds and amplify them this way. When the sounds get absorbed instead of reflected the noise will be reduced.
Make some earmuffs out of that green stuff and call it a day! 😄 And as always, good work!
Oh damn, I guess I was wrong. 😬
Anyway, fantastic work as always!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
good work Mr Nails. Thanks for the content as always
It was a good try anyway but I was amused through both videos, especially your last statement. See you on the next one
at least you now have a place to do green screen graphics
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
sound is air displacement at different frequency .
to solve the problem you just have to remove all air from the shop !
Nah, nah, nah, what you've got to do is team-up with John Heisz and the two of you work out an Active Noise Control system using diy amps and speakers.
So you need sound cancellation speakers installed in the shop. When a blast gate is activated, so is the suction, and then a mic and speakers. The mic hears the sound, and the speakers playback the frequency needed to cancel the noise. It will probably be way to expensive for the worth in a wood shop, but eh, why not.
Moving to Saskatchewan would make less decebls 🤣
Ya but then I would have to live in sask.
What's wrong with that? You don't like 9.5 months of snowing?
Lol umm hard no
I'm surprised that almost everything done to reduce noise makes it worse!
I tried to watch this in my shop so I might figure out how to make my dust collection quieter but I couldn't hear the audio from the video,
That green stuff looks like it's light and porous-- exactly the opposite of what you need to stop sound transmission. It's probably intended to attenuate reflections. It might have actually worked better if you'd mounted it on the wall behind the noise makers.
Idk man. I'm not a sound engineer but the people who made sonopan are and my testing says it works so that's what I would go with. #wishsonopanwouldpayme
@@DIYBuildsSonopan is meant to be used inside a wall system, it is not a very good barrier on its own. Think of it as a way to add varying densities to a whole system. One of the problems with blocking sound, is that any air gaps let most of the noise through. The only option to get real meaningful reductions, would be to completely enclose the dust collector and create a baffle for the exhaust from the filter.
Imagine that... CZcams commenters confidently declaring nonsense. Who would have guessed?
I like the new series. Suprising ways to make things worse.
Hey, did you try insulating the motor against sound? /s
Love the shirt. Checked out the band. Good stuff. Still can't dethrone 3 Inches of Blood as my favorite Canadian band. Front Line Assembly is Canadian too but that is industrial. Have you checked out Red Fang? Prehistoric Dog music video from them is worth a watch. Edit: Oh Gloryhammer are from UK.. ok yeah oops. lol
Did you try wrapping the shop and standing down the street?
Pretend your wife is talking to you and you won’t hear a thing.
Hahaha 😝 this was truly epic
I still think it's from the air flow itself just like a fan. Therefore there is nothing that can be done for the noise without messing up the system. Still great try and now we know what not to do.
Noise is like water. You should close all holes for your system to have a change.
This concerns me. I planned to do something similar to mine. Now I'm confused.
Hi. Maybe you should try audimute sound proof blankets.
In my shop I cancel out the sound of machinery by turning my music up louder, totally works.
NO, THIS IS NOT DONE. WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS READ ALL THE STUPID COMMENTS ( NOT JUST THIS ONE) AND TRY TO RESOLVE THIS SITUATION SO THAT EVERYONE IS SATISFIED. THANK YOU. GOODBYE
Stay tuned for Sundays video ;)
But I bet yer still wearing safety sandals…
Welp😏
Wait till your old and deaf, like me, sound will not matter. You are not alone, i found another woodworking you tuber in flip flops, sorry
I am viewer 666 🤘ROCK ON
Hail stan
It's a shop. If you don't want noise go to the library
To the library!!!!
Box means wood. Insulation goes on the inside and seal the edges. just saying.
No…: decoupled structure around the dust collector.
No sound isolation clips.
No green glue.
No mass loaded vinyl.
No res or hat channel….
Well of course it did nothing. Looks like a colossal waste of time though.
Yey
I grew plants.. hydroponically for 20 years. That arena is light years ahead of moving air than woodworkers.
It’s criminal that the woodworking culture is still using giant motors slapped onto an impeller and blowing downward into a cyclone.
Guys are buying 5000$ Oneidas when they could get the same CFM and run it off 120v and hear themselves whisper in their shop.
As is the case in my system.
But, to each their own 🫡
