Emery should easily be manager of the year. The work he has done since taking over from Gerrard last year is truly incredible. He turned a team battling against relegation under Gerrard into a 7th place team with 61 points. This year he has Villa on the verge of Champions League qualification with 63 points already and 5 matches to go. For as much as these pundits love to praise Ange, the work Emery has done trumps him by a mile.

It is very strange that he whimsically changed his system. He is not a manager who tempers with his system according to the opponents he faces. Even against Luton, a lesser opponent, his formation remained unchanged. He only rested some players in that game. He also maintained that same system against the all mighty Manchester City at the Ethiad. My point is, regardless of the strength of the opponents, he does not alter his formation. This is a very mystical scenario we have here. Mikel only did this after 11 Premier League games, which is on the 12th league game. He played this identical system earlier in the season and they lost by a goal at Villa Park. He chose such a crucial game to revert to his old system that apparently failed him. To me, it looks like match fixing more than anything else. This season, the narrative to Arsenal's failure to win the league title is no longer an injury to William Saliba, but Mikel Arteta losing his head with 7 games to go.

@phillipkleopas7230 nonsense, against city his game plan wasnt to go toe to toe with city but rather remain compact but he kept the same system , only difference in personnel was jesus for martinelli in that game. But it was a system that was clearly working. They were smacking teams up for fun with only conceding 4 goals. That backline of kiwior saliba gabriel and white was formidable as you can think. Kiwior gets destroyed against bayern and then he panics by bringing back zinchenko into the squad, zinchenko was out of the squad for a reason. He then sends havertz back into a midfield role that has clearly never worked. It is baffling to comprehend

I’m a fan of Arteta’s work, but he messed up with the team line up big time. I mean how can you play Jorginho against Sheffield protecting your midfield, but leave him out against an in-form Aston Villa. Exposing the midfield. However, I reserve my opinion as I’m not in the inside to know exactly about his decision to leave Jorginho out. Now, Declan Rice looks a shadow of himself. Declan Rice never play for a team going for the premier league and the Champions league. These are top level football that are congested during this period. Someone should told him the two England games in which he played 90 minutes was a mistake and should have rest then. Top players know that and sometimes they prefer to rest rather than playing those friendly games. He has since been struggling to recover from them.

It is similar to bringing a date to an expensive 5 star place and then expecting her to now be accepting of going to a no name restaurant after that .
Arsenal dont want you all to have a high expectation of them . They want to be good enough but not great.
This is the same reason why I never over impress my girl since she might start expecting it on a normal basis. I do well enough to not disappoint but not great enough for her to have unrealistic expectations; no opening doors, top notch date, first class flights, etc. She fly coach , 3 star restaurants, last minute cruise with cheaper pricing and that is what she expects. Not me spending crazy to keep her happy even though I can more than afford to

Further, City just need to draw once and we're back on top.

Because the players showed him that they can get it done If he played them in the right position. Havertz in midfield from the first game of the season showed him he can't play midfield. Havertz as the striker showed him he can score and play better further up the field. It's that simple and those simple adjustments mess with your team and then the psyche of the team going into these big matches now. Noone expects man city to lose or draw now because they have proven and shown they can step on the gas when needed and now both teams have given man city the motivation they need to stay on top for the remainder of the season. Just kidding, sort of...
Tactically this was a masterclass by Emery, we didn't just grow into the game by chance. The first half was ALWAYS supposed to be us sitting back, absorbing the pressure, tearing the waters, and breaking when opportunities arose. We are far from being the finished product and are down players, so yes I agree, Arsenal were the better the team, but they were not in full control.
Second half, Emery tightened things up, adjusted the tactics and re-energized, refocused the team and basically unleashed the restraints. From the kick off we were dominant, we didn't grow into it. And we kept going...
There, that's what the pundits should have talked about; Emery coming back, tactics, Watkins, the win...

After their 2-0 loss to Aston Villa a lot of people are saying that Arsenal have bottled the premier league title for the 2nd season in a row and I think everyone is overreacting in my opinion. Going into that game they were in 1st place tied with Liverpool on points ahead by goal difference having won 10 out of their last 11 league games. We should give credit to Aston Villa because they played very well particularly in the 2nd half and they absolutely deserve champions league football in Unai Emery’s first full season there, but I felt like Mikel Arteta got his team selection wrong. They have the champions league in a couple of days and I understand the fact that he rotated a little bit but there’s a feeling that he didn’t field the XI that’s worked out for them in recent weeks and the substitutions he made, the less said about it, the better.
I know that Manchester City are top of the league and as we’ve seen in the past at this stage of a season you don’t expect them to slip up due to their title race experience, but in their remaining 6 games there’s a possibility that they drop points because Arsenal are still 2 points behind them. The title race isn’t over for them, but there’s a feeling that they need to hand the premier league title to Manchester City again if they drop more points because we all know how Arsenal are unable to handle pressure and just imagine if they cannot knock out a Bayern Munich team that just lost the Bundesliga title for the first time in over 12 years in the champions league. This might be one bad result especially against a team that is playing for a champions league spot themselves, but this is a reminder that Arsenal aren’t ready to win the premier league title unless they cope with pressure and deliver when it matters the most because all they need to do is finish strong and not choke in any more games otherwise the title race is over for them.
