12 weeks post shoulder surgery - long recovery time - is it worth it update?????

  • If you are thinking of having surgery on your shoulder, you need to watch this. So many people choose to have the operation without thinking about what is really involved and how long the recovery process is. Im now at the 12 week / 3 month mark after shoulder arthroscopy surgery and my recovery is very slow with limited range of motion, no strength and is affecting other parts of my body as a result. This is an update with my experience so far. I have recently started physio therapy and hopefully this will speed up the progress in recovery. Only time will tell. I like how you were super enthusiastic on the beginning of your video.. I thought I would hear good news! Dude no matter how small a surgery is, surgery is surgery and will need significant time to recover. Stay positive brother and I'm sure in a couple of months you will be much much better. In the meantime, consider acupuncture and threagun treatments to loosen up the muscle and nerves. If I were you I would look at tb500 and bpc 157 as well ( I know I would once I do surgery myself).
    Get well soon, brother 💪

    My surgeon suggested I have 8 sessions but I feel I will need a lot more than this
    Anyway I have already had 4 sessions
    And exercises to do at home which I do 3 times a day
    Its very important that you do the exercises at home
    I know it's a slow recovery anything up to a year
    But thank God the sleeping isn't too bad some nights I wake up with pain going down my arm
    I just take 2 ibuprofen capsules and they help I can go back to sleep

    Just got a labrum repair on my right shoulder almost 2 weeks ago. I am a manager at a liquor store, with a family to feed so I had to get this taken care of and work at the same time. I used to be a physical therapist assistant so I knew that therapy would be important for recovery. You should never put something like this off as you can make a full recovery if you’re careful and follow the surgeon’s advice and do therapy. I do all my passive exercises 3x a day and am progressing nicely. Unless you went to a bad surgeon or don’t make an effort to do therapy, recovery is really all on you man... anyone can apply for financial aid on surgery and therapy. If nothing else, you can make payments to any of them and they will work with you. Best of luck to anyone dealing with this right now

    It has been a while since you posted this but how is your shoulder doing now? I just had a slap repair surgery 9 weeks ago and I have been In physical therapy for about 6 weeks. I have just about full range of motion but I am still having some pain when doing certain motions out to the side. I have also been having some light popping in my left shoulder since the surgery when I am slowly moving it around which makes sense because I am just about to start strength training after not doing much for a while. I was able to do wall push-ups and a 10lb shoulder press without pain so I got my weight restrictions lifted to about 20lbs. I am still hoping to return to combat sports in February/March like my doctor said a couple weeks after the surgery 🤞🏻

    I'm 9 weeks post op today and this video could not be more spot on. It sucks do not get it done unless 100% no other choice or you have the financial freedom for the recovery. I can lift my arm straight up in front of me but I can not lift it out to the side for nothing. Sleep is miserable or overrated is how I try to see it haha. The one thing that seems to help is the ultrasound heat its no miracle cure but I notice after therapy wrenching on my arm that I'm not completely miserable for the rest of the day. Keep it up man hoping the best for ya. Just hope you don't have to get manipulative surger to break up the scar tissue thats my concern right now and also concerned of being able to return to work. I do construction and I dont know how this is gonna work out if I can't get my arm back. Just sucks its my right dominant shoulder so learning how to do everything left handed has been a pain in the butt.

So got so signed off by the doc and a week later everyone was laid off due to covid then the gyms were shut so couldn't work it out. So it's been an absolute night mare. My strength and stamina when it comes to doing anything with my shoulder is rough. I'm having to reconsider lighter work which sucks because I feel pretty screwed over. Hi, just to clarify I’m not saying don’t do the surgery obviously the specialist knows best. What I’m saying is the recovery is slow has speed bumps along the way. So people should factor this in as whilst in recovery your financial earnings are restricted and so is the ability to do May other things. I’m my shoulder will recover in time. Also, I too exhausted all options for over a year before going ahead with the surgery. Good luck with your injury wish you the best 👍

It’s gotten better as days go by, but I don’t have the ability to flex my shoulder muscles like my other side...I’m going to wait another month or so to see if I regain anything but I suspect I have full thickness tears in various rotator cuff muscles - what are your symptoms?

    Ugh sucks! Yeah i'm on the same boat with a tear but whats causing me issues is a cyst on shoulder that's pressing on my nerve causing severe pain, but i was given a cortizone shot yesterday (i know thats temporary) and it took the pain i was having from 100 to about 5%.... very manageable. I'm thinking f they can drain the cyst that would work for me fora while before surgery.

      Hi, the worst part has to be the long recovery. Most other things such as the pain after surgery, sleep issues and immediately after surgery are all short term and pass fairly quickly. The long road of recovery is the worst physically and mentally.

  • @dennislie487
    @dennislie487 Před 5 lety

    im 7 week post op for a slap tear in my shoulder and by far the most important step is to START REHAB the same day you come out of the hospital! im sorry to see the amount of progress youve made with your arm. i have almost full range of motion in my arm, and removed the support after 3 weeks. i also started lifting light weights for my shoulder last week. ive been doing nothing but rehab every day, testing the limits and focusing on range of motion in my rehab which is by far the most important bit as you can build strength later. The key is to always work within the paramaters of your pain, and dont overexert yourself (do exactly as the physical therapist tell you, and if you cant afford one, get a mastercard and pay (which i did haha))! please dont wait with training until several weeks have gone by, start immediately !

    • @archanarampuria5573
      @archanarampuria5573 Před 5 lety

      Could not agree more ! Rehab is THE KEY !
      SLAP Repair surgery is not like a heart surgery in the sense that it is not all that complicated. Essentially they are just hammering the torn labrum back to the bone with an anchor and suture. So not much that can really go wrong unless it has been horribly done. What is most important is the timing of start of rehab, the quality of rehab, and how much we continue doing the exercises on our own, of course without overdoing things and without causing undue pain. Key is to follow the advise of the surgeon and the Physio to the T. For those who are about to get the surgery done, give equal emphasis on getting the right Physio as much as you are giving on getting the right surgeon.

    • @trainingwithbill2067
      @trainingwithbill2067  Před 5 lety

      Unfortunately this was the instructions of the surgeon and the physical therapist. The issue with starting rehab early is the risk of re tearing. You pretty much only get one shot with the surgery hence the delayed rehab. Only time will tell 👍

    Hey bud, I started watching your videos because I had shoulder surgery as well. I had a labrum tear, rotator cuff repair, bone spurs removed, and a tenodisis performed. 4 holes and an incision down my left bicep. The stitches were removed after the first week and my therapy started a week and a half after surgery. Started with fully assisted motion with no assistance on my part. This was to work on mobility. I want to say that this whole process has been very painful, and now I’m at 13 weeks out. My range of motion is back to normal, and about 3 weeks ago , we started strength training. Again, this is very painful but I am able to move my arm in any direction at full range, unassisted. I am 48 years old and don’t really adhere to a very good diet. My doctor says I shouldn’t have to see him again as my recovery is coming along as expected. I told him I was feeling a lot of pain during sessions, and he said it was very normal, and that I should see full recovery in 3 more months. No pain, no gain he said lol. I feel really good, and the strength is coming back gradually. The pain is lessening as well. I thought at first, the therapy was too soon, but I am seeing and feeling the benefits. I’ll continue to watch your posts to see your progress. Thank you

    Healing at about 10% per month so at most your 30-40% healed pending size of repair. I just hit week 12 myself after a 2.5cm full thickness tear of supraspinatus tendon with 5 anchors installed. Lucky they used my own tendon which was thick and elastic. 8 weeks in a sling, just beginning strengthening at week 12 due to my tear being considered large. I’m hitting PT 2x per day at house along with 2 visits to Physical therapist. Looking forward to lifting my arm over my head by itself and no assistance here headed into week 13. Estimating my recovery will be 8-9 months minimum before I am 80-90% healed. Lookin forWARD To hitting NPC physique stage end of 2022 doing my best to mitigate muscle loss which I estimate at 3lbs range to this point focusing on a dialed in caloric intake and macronutrient plan and training around the shoulder which will not be ready for minimal lifting til at least the 6-7 month mark. I’ve been lifting for 4 years and just got a new job and been waiting for ever with the VA to have surgery. Of course now they want to do it. Nervous about work and loosing 4 years worth gains 🤦🏼‍♂️

      Lol losing gains are the least of your worries. Focus on regaining full function of your body . Unfortunately we don’t know what we have till it’s gone. Hope all goes well

      Spencer Jones I held off on it. Doing stretches every day and light lifting. Talked to tons of people some say it helped some say it’s the biggest regret ever. I’m waiting till I have no other choice. Good luck

    Sounds like you had some impingement they weren't addressing

    I had this surgery 6 weeks ago and my shoulder range of motion is about 85% of what it used to be. There are a couple things that happened with you. Either your surgeon wasn’t the best and it’s affecting your recovery, or you are not doing what they tell you to do in recovery through what you should and should not be doing on your own. Also starting physical therapy at 9 weeks is the worst thing you could have done, I started at 3 1/2 weeks...... don’t be leading people away from this surgery just because you messed the fuck up.

    Yeah unless you’ve gone through it there is no way to know. I’m someone who has had 2 ACL reconstructions 1 on both knees. THOSE WERE NOTHING COMPARED TO THIS!!!!! I had 2 rotator cuffs completely torn and 1 partially torn OUT OF THE 4. I’m at week 8 and it’s fkn awful. Limited range and pain when stretching. I’m not sure about back surgery but other than that this has got to be the worst recovery process. I’m 2 weeks in rehabilitation and while I see progress it’s like watching paint dry
