    I thought it seemed obvious while watching the first nun that Irene was definitely Lorraine's ancestor. I thought to myself, damn, they look a lot alike, and sure enough, I found out two actresses are sisters. So they've obviously been setting up this plot detail for a while. It certainly explains Lorraines psychic abilities and her personal connection to Valek in conjuring 2. I'm sure they'll reveal it in the conjuring 4.

      Except they keep saying that they’re not related. Maybe they’re trying very poorly to wave it away as a “surprise” later? I mean I agree it would be a good idea for the movies to tie them together.

    • @supercereal1
      @supercereal1 Před 7 měsíci +39

      There’s no way they can be only related tho. Think if it this way. How could Ed and Lorraine be adults searching after frenchy. Frenchy lived at the same time point as Irene and Lorraine. Therefore Lorraine has to be an older Irene

      @FANTOllVll Před 7 měsíci +35

      @@supercereal1 not to mention Irene is a nun, so having kids isn’t on the menu. Both movies talk about her faith and commitment to her faith so there’s no way she would stray from said faith as well.

      I believe the link is St. Lucy. If both Lorraine and Sister Irene are bloodline relations of the saint, they could be distant 'cousins', with the same clairvoyant connection and both capable of embodying Valak's nemesis. I think throwing St. Lucy and the "holy sight" relic into the plot was actually one of the few redeeming aspects of this movie. It perfectly sows Irene's religious fervor into the overall timeline, w/o overlooking the fact that she's not expected to leave descendants.
      PS. said bloodline relations because they couldn't possibly descend from a martyred virgin.

      Remember that she wasn't even a nun yet. She had yet to take her vows. It wasn't like she could be promoted to Mother Superior. Plus remember also that she was especially haunted by the experience. She didn't want the recognition. The cardinal demanded it of her because she WAS the only one who could help. Was it fair that it was a demand? Yes. But she needed a kick in the butt too as a reminder that this was what she was called to do.

  • @nexttimeondragonballzzzz
    @nexttimeondragonballzzzz Před 7 měsíci +449

    I think if the first Nun movie had been done properly, it would have been a good addition to the franchise. The idea of a demon haunting a convent with a dark history, and the nuns are already dead but appear sporadically as ghosts? It's a great idea. But the cheap jump scares, the priest (Father Anthony was his name, I think?) and all of his antics, plus the lack of any real threat to the protagonists (every time Irene was "attacked" she managed to easily wriggle away with nary a scratch) made it seem like a half-assed attempt. Which then furthers the disappointment when The Nun II follows the same formula.
    What makes the presence of a demon and then later its possession of the mom in The Conjuring so unnerving is a truly evil and threatening demon in Bathsheba--we know how she came to be an evil spirit, exactly how evil she really is, and that she is an actual threat following the three steps of infestation, oppression, and possession. It's a slow burn. The "scares" serve a purpose other than "Ooh, spooky noise and AH! Bad guy! Oh wait, he's gone now."
    Ugh, what a letdown.

    I was genuinely interested in watching a movie about Valak’s origins, rather than seeing Valak hunt a different group of people. I also had the impression that Taissa Farmiga would portray the nun. In my opinion, the Conjuring universe should consider bringing David F. Sandberg back. Among all the spin-offs, Annabelle: Creation stands out as the best to me. I don't know man…the audience has already spoken. Perhaps it’s time to move on from Valak and introduce The Crooked Man.

    I honestly quite enjoyed it, the scares were inconsistent but you get that with most conjouring verse films and there were definitely some that I kinda liked. I thought the performances were mostly pretty great, and the story and lore was actually pretty decent, I liked how the conversation about faith and the communion wine came back at the end. My only complaint really is that Valak still hasn't been nearly as scary as it was in The Conjuring 2 in either of its own movies. One of the reasons the 2nd Conjuring film is my favourite in the franchise is the layers of manipulation that Valak puts the family and the Warren's through before only fully manifesting at the end. Possessing Old Bill, showing Lorraine Ed's death, making it look like Janet was faking her possession for attention, truly a terrifying villain. The stakes in that movie are great

    The movie wasn’t scary for me, but it was entertaining. I loved the magazine scene, it was done perfectly. As for the scene where Irene was burning and showed Lorraine’s eyes, it did make me gasp to see they are in the same bloodline. Explains why they both can see visions. The post credit scene showing the Warren’s, confirming the connection with the Nun 2 and the Conjuring made me giddy. I was also laughing and cheering for Valak when she was going after the bullies in the movie like “GET HER!” I give it a 6/10

    I too want a Crooked Man spinoff.
    Interesting how that's why Valak's eyes glow in Conjuring 2
    Nah, I don't think Conjuring 4 is about Valak. We already got what we needed to know from the previous Conjurings. They helped get Valak out of Frenchie, and then Valak returned in Conjuring 2. If they did have an earlier encounter with Valak, then they would've recognized the painting right away.
    If anything I wish it'd focus on the Disciples of the Ram. Janice/Annabelle Higgins joined them until the demon could get back into the doll. And they were the mentioned again in the Conjuring 4, one of their rituals was what caused the demonic possession that drove the plot of that film.
    So they're definitely a behind-the-scenes driving force of the franchise.

    My friend and I really enjoyed it and she definitely got git by all the scares, even though she could tell when they were coming and she quite liked the magazine scare scene 😅 The rest of the people in the theatre seemed to also enjoy it, as the atmosphere was good enough that hush comments could be made without people getting annoyed and the energy was really nice. I can see how both films could be seen as Chris has mentioned, and yes, I agree that some things would have been better if used in a different way or more character developments but I still really enjoy both films and Valak is definitely a favourite aesthetic wise. I feel that people are putting too much into the films instead of just enjoying the weird ride that is these films.

    Hello Foundflix!
    I still have one question about this movie that has been bugging me since my first watch. There is a scene where Valak is haunting Sofie and we get a glimpse of what appears to be Valak at the end of the warrens hallway that sofie can see. Is this just intended to be an easter egg sprinkled in, or do you think there is a way that Valak is already aware of the Warrens at some capacity somehow?

    • @oshhhhh
      @oshhhhh Před 7 měsíci

      I think it’s just a theory or a stretch, but the actor for Irene is actually the younger sister of Loraine warren irl, and so people have been theorising they are actually related inverse as well. A stretch, obviously, but it’s an odd coincidence considering Valak and the hallway scene. My headcanon is that they are related and that Valak is already aware of the warrens.
      It’s more than likely just a fan service scene, though.

    • @lyssamora
      @lyssamora Před 7 měsíci

      They are trying to tie it in for a future movie. If you recall, Irene has visions about the Nun and Lorriane has visions about, well everything. As we come to find out through this movie, Irene has these visions due to her being a descendant of St Lucy, so they are also alluding that Lorraine is a descendant of her too, since she has those same powers.

    • @oshhhhh
      @oshhhhh Před 7 měsíci +2

      @@lyssamora I’m honestly looking forward to the next conjuring film. As used as Valak is already, it’s still incredibly creepy and unnerving. The scares in the second were surprisingly good, in my opinion. Especially the one after the hallway scene, where Valak is just stood staring at the girl on the stairs. Really creeped me out.
      If they can get a new director in with the current budget, cast, etc. then I reckon the next entry will be pretty good.

    • @cassablanco
      @cassablanco Před 6 měsíci

      I was confused in that scene, too. But after analyzing it, I think Sofie is a (rumored) descendant of St. Lucy as well? Like Lorraine and Irene, Sofie had a vision as she saw the future or smthin, but it makes sense for that scene to give it to a child so that Sofie would ponder if its really a vision or a product of her imagination since she's a child. In our eyes, we know it's real since its a scene in The Conjuring 2, but in Sofie's eyes, it is definitely a question of vision or imagination

    The scares were good but I desperately need them to give me a good story. If they are going to give me the exorcism of Frenchie, we need to see the story of why Frenchie? How evil and relentless is the nun to never leave Frenchie alone? And finally, how does this affect all of Lorraine’s life? I don’t want to see them defeating the nun. Thats not scary to me. The scariest part of stories is when I think that no matter what I do its never enough. And for the love of everything holy (literally) I don’t need the blood of Jesus or anyone other holy items producers want to throw in. Next thing you know we’re going to Noah’s Arc.

    I haven't seen the movie yet, but it looks like an okay flick.
    As far as the Maurice character goes, if you look up the actual Maurice Theriault case, it's a lot more interesting; he was still from a family of farmers, but had an extreamly ab*sive father, that not only physically ab*sed him but his mother as well, which ultimatley caused him to invoke the devil out of anger for his father, which ultimatley led him to become posessed; while this may not make for a flashy jumpscare movie, I do think this would be a more human story with supernatural elements, thus making it a both a sad and scary story, as well as a potentially good film.
