Freaking love his videos go though the whole movie. So much of scary movies relies on visual cues and I can't see very well due to a degenerative condition. With these videos I can still enjoy my favorite genre and get to experience all the things I miss out on when watching

I was half expecting everything to just be an elaborate delusion going on in her head while _she's_ the one undergoing an exorcism the whole time. I'm...honestly not sure if that would be any better or worse than the hero ending we got.
Also: THE STIGMATA WOUNDS ARE WRONG. NAILS WERE HAMMERED THROUGH THE *WRISTS* IN CRUCIFIXTIONS. HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO TEACH YOU THIS LESSON, OLD MAN?

Yet yes the human hand is said to be unable to hold the weight of a body.
Roman's seemed to have a variety of methods used for Crucifixion but the gist is the same. Hold someone in place till they die, and send a message to any enemies of Rome.
I wonder how many people mercy killed someone. Especially when you hear stories of entire roads full of people being crucified. Surely you had people set them free or gave mercy unless they were being watched. (Which would suck for those on guard duty.) Hell if I were a guard I'd try to speed up the process because hearing the agony would be torture for ME. Like thanks Dominous? Am I being punished too?)

This feels like a test to see if the audience wants a sequel or series with a bigger budget.
12:31 its funny how she is taking notes that are obvious to the devil. “he latches onto guilt.” is followed with “he knows when you are sleeping. he knows when you’re awake.” and “he lives in hell.”
When you started describing this movie, I pretty quickly started thinking that it doesn't feel like a horror movie, it feels like a superhero origin movie. They're creating a world where demons are a real and accepted part of reality, where they even draw the distinction between demonic possession and mental illness. And then they depict this Xavier-esque school for training exorcists to wield supernatural power, only you come to realize they have never succeeded. They may battle and subdue many demons with their arsenal of faith, but every victim dies, and the humans are ultimately losing this battle.
Enter the nun, an outsider, an underestimated underdog who brings something new to their strategy: compassion, empathy, concepts the priests had never conceived of, because they entered every exorcism as soldiers, rather than healers. And now the Vatican has found something that strengthens the victim against the demon, and gives the possessed the power to escape and break free from possession... and suddenly the winning streak these demons have held for thousands of years has been broken. And they are pissed!
Yeah, I kinda wish this movie did better, because that sounds like a franchise I'd like to see!
This really reminds me of this YA fantasy book I read a few months ago, it’s called Vespertine and it’s about a girl who was left at a convent housing “the gray sisters” where they basically where more nurses but could exorcise demons. What’s really tipping me off is the way she dresses, they don’t wear the hood but the color matches a lot lol.

I desperately need someone to tell FoundFlix that "Mortified" means "really embarrassed" not "really scared." HOWEVER when I'm feeling mortified that I'm too scared to watch these movies, I know that FoundFlix has my back...love this channel!
Mortified also means "subdued" so it works in the way he used it!

@@jimmyjon9970 roots don't always follow through to current usage. Goodbye is an abbreviation of "God be with you" but it doesn't have any particular religious connotations now. Any dictionary will tell you mortify means to cause embarrassment.

I wonder if Dante is a reference to Dante’s inferno. He descended into hell to save his wife/fiancé/girlfriend (can’t recall which atm) kinda like this movie’s Dante descended into the well to save the sister. 🤔

I love exorcism movies. The Exorcist and the Exorcism of Emily Rose are some of my favorite movies but this one just didn't do it for me. Although the lead actress did a good job. Also I love that in one scene they establish that a character died, then immediately in the next they mention she’s alive. LOL that’s a coroner who is about to lose their job.
just a note: 'mortified" means humiliated, EXTREMELY embarrassed, ashamed (not "figuratively scared to death" or something) :)

I think the funny thing about these possession movies is that they are so type casted to cater to the a specific audience. As an atheist, it often times puzzling how people find stuff like this scary in terms of their own beliefs. There are real monsters out there in the world, people who happily kill ten or thousands of people at the whim of their fancy. Never have I seen a movie about the devil tackle anything like that, probably because it would make them question the nature of a benevolent "god" who would sit back and let this stuff happen. So instead we get the lonely little girl, innocent and fair, tainted by something otherworldly. Its not our fault, its the devil. I think the only movie that actually tackled this genre well was Saint Maud.
Have you watched the Devil Conspiracy? I enjoyed both Prey For The Devil and The Devil Conspiracy....great stuff....whereas Prey For The Devil is mixture of both Hereditary and Exorcism, The Devil Conspiracy is a mixture of both The Omen and The Da Vinci Code......loved both movies

Just watched this yesterday, it was nothing groundbreaking but I did find it enjoyable. I gave it a 7/10 cause of the love I have for the possession horror genre. I thought it played things safe for good or bad.

For me her being actual mother of a posessed girl kinda toned down protags whole girlboss moment. It’s would’ve been more interesting if demons faked the momento to lure her and then she realised the lie and would still save the girl. Something along those lines.

Amazing review! I feel that The Rite with Anthony Hopkins and The Exorcism of Emily Rose were better renditions of exorcism movies, at least within the 2000s.
I don't always agree with you on this or that, but something that I consistently appreciate with you is that you don't shill for movies that you don't personally like. You say flat out if you enjoyed a movie or not, and what it could have done better, and don't let it colour your breakdown of it too much.
You're also the guy who arguably introduced me to the horror movie "The Void", which was like a breath of fresh air that I have repeatedly filled my lungs with since.

For the sequel this needs to turn into like End of Days where she’s literally beating the shit out of the devil like Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Exorcism is usually just to get rid of the possesion in a human. It doesn't matter if the subject survives or not if the posession is gone then the exorcism was done successfully.

I swear, it's like Colin Salmon doesn't age. He looks exactly the same to me as he did in Resident Evil (2002) as James Shade, aka "One". He was 40 in RE and 60 in this film and hardly looks to have aged a day. Lucky genetics on that man.

I enjoyed this movie. I didn’t think I’d enjoy this but I found it very interesting. And interesting how the demons are representative of trauma and guilt from trauma (survivors guilt primarily). Very cool
