  • How to install handle bar end accessories on a mountain bike.
We install new handle bar ends from Profile Designs onto a Trek mountain bike.
    Supplies Needed:
    - 5mm hex key / allen wrench
    - Knife or box cutter
    Overview of the Steps:
    1. Loosen the brake levers on the handle bars, and move them out of the way (using a 5mm allen wrench).
    2. Slide the rubber handle bar grip inward to make room for the new handle bar ends. *You will need to cut out the rubber end cap on the grip to slide it inward.
    3. Position the new handle bar end onto the handle bar and tighten with 5mm allen wrench.
    4. Re-position grip next to the new bar end, and re-position brakes back next to the grip.
    5. *Test the brakes to make sure moving their cables didn't alter the length and brake response.

Nice video! Clamp on bar ends are inexpensive and make any changes to you bars so much simpler.

Use rubbing alcohol as a lubricant. Wedge a small Allen wretch under the grip and an eye dropper to put the alcohol under.

Use hairspray as a lubricant. It then sets dry when you are done moving the bar grip.

There are three types of these end bars I've seen which one is the best? There's the ones that are rubber and shorter but have a bottom part that extends below the bar, then there's the triangular ones that are medium size, and there are these, taller and curved on top.

Hand positions. My hands go numb sometimes after a while in the saddle, mixing up hand positions keeps my hands from doing that.
Also having a wide arm stance to really power up those hills I find helps a bunch.

20 years ago barends were all the rage. Still are to some folks who've been mtb'ing longer than many have been breathing.
