    Many viewers have suggested in the comments that Zach's result is at worst "terrible" and at best "underwhelming." Let me tell you that ultimately it doesn’t matter what you and I think. It’s about the patient being happy. The surgeon did nothing wrong. Could he have placed more grafts? Sure. But perhaps they mutually decided to go more conservative. As a hair surgeon, it’s about understanding what a patient wants and delivering on it. If both surgeon and patient are pleased that’s really all that matters in the end.

      I think it looks objectively better now, than it did before he went for the procedure.

      Definitely, I think the best part about Zach's results is the confidence he has in himself again more then anything.

    • @waelo1011
      @waelo1011 Před 2 lety +29

      I agree that the result is good but I think that Zach is a little "too happy" about his current stage. He deludes himself by thinking that now "he has the power" and that "he can chooses the style". He should be aware that he is still not at a decent hairline and I hope that he will realizes that to undergo a second procedure he would be REALLY fulfilled with the results. That way he would really be back to the "out of the bed I can go down to the grocery store without overthinking in front of the mirror" life.
      The people around him are not helping by only praising the results. The hairstylist is also very harmful by blatantly lying with the "You can rock my own hairstyle if you want from now on" crap. Real friends and real people wanting to help him regain "real" self-confidence would tell him "Great results! You look amazing. Just go a little further and you will reach perfection!". Of course if a second hair transplant is not a realistic possibility for him, then what I said is irrelevant and he can accept his current status with no regrets.
      That is my point: Not satisfying with what you have when you can do better, and try until you have tried everything. Then you are really in peace with what you have.

    For a plastic/transplant surgeon, you're really careful with how you speak about inherently subjective things -- y'know, what features are 'beautiful' or what a patient 'should' or 'shouldn't' do. Not every doctor posting this kind of content is so careful -- I really appreciate your approach

    I think a big issue with Zach’s restoration and why people are having such a negative reaction to it is that the results video comes across like a really bad commercial. We see two incredibly attractive doctors with their trendy hairstyles in their medical space that they’ve designed to look like a spa created in an industrial, urban space. Zach continuously screams as if everything that’s happening is so exciting and cool. He acts as if the results are transformative to the point that he’s unrecognizable. He’s like, “No wayyyyyy! Whoaaaaa!” We, as the audience of this video, see a disconnect between how Zach is presenting the results vs. the actual results. We easily recognize that he doesn’t have a hairline like a 19 year old supermodel. And that’s okay! His hair is probably never going to be thick and full. If he feels great and likes the results, that’s what’s most important. But I think people would respond much differently if he presented his results less like he’s trying to sell us a medical procedure with these doctors and more like he simply had a personal procedure and is enjoying the results.

What a beautiful man. His face is perfectly symmetrical - I've never seen anything more perfect.
    I don't fault this guy in the video for wanting to reverse his hair loss, but it really is a huge endeavor and has got to be insanely expensive. I hope he feels good about his result and feels good every day when he goes through his days. Every person has one or a few things that they feel self conscious about that no one else thinks is a big deal - so if doing this makes a difference for him, then that's great. I always find it odd that people make such a big deal about other men getting hair transplants. They used to be really awful looking and men would end up with "pluggy" looking "doll hair". But, now it looks very natural. When most people see someone with huge gaps in their teeth or very crooked teeth, most will think"Why on earth did they not get that fixed?" So, how is hair thinning any different? I do not feel that any of us are the sum total of our outward appearance, however, a winning smile opens a lot of doors. So too does a full head of hair. Stating that a bunch of sexy male action movie stars look good bald is hardly a realistic comparison for most balding men. Confidence comes from many places, and hair is definitely one of them for most men. I think it's fantastic that the surgery has progressed so much and that it is a viable option for most men if they choose to do it.

    So funny how the video started with Zach talking about how he doesn't practice what he preaches, then the camera cuts to the doc, who TRULY lives out what Zach has been talking about. Not throwing any shade at Zach with this comment, just thought it was a funny transition. Almost like the doc cut into frame just to take Zach to school for a second lol.

    I had a very stressful life in my childhood and adolescence. I was rapidly losing my hair by 17, and some of my hair went white too. I got on Finasteride and Minoxidil in my mid-20's which helped a lot, but dropped Minoxidil later because it's inconvenient. In my late 20's I got a hair transplant, and it's been a massive improvement on my life. Although you can still see that I'm balding a little, no one would call me the bald dude in the office anymore. I plan on getting a second hair transplant in the future so that I will present with almost no visible signs of balding at all.

      Nothing wrong with being the bald dude in the office, really, dont worry you look fine either way. I believe most people increase their hair loss by stressing over it, the body hates stress and reacts to it in many ways imaginable and losing hair is one way. So the first step to go on about it: dont stress yourself over things that YOU cant control. Dont stress yourself over what OTHERS think. You're fine either way. Look at Gary, he is bald and i think he looks great. It's his charm and confidence and how you deal with it. Havent seen one negative comment regarding his Alopecia, because theres no such thing to make it into something negative, he looks fine and normal.

    The people who said it doesn't look good or it's thin, yes, that's because the scalp has a 'carrying capacity'. What he's achieved is that now he has a foothold of strong lifelong hair and a great permanent hairline. Nice job Dr. Rome et al. He could go on like that forever and people who meet him for the first time would never know he had a surgery. Now that things have healed he can go back and have a 'second coat of paint'. That's often what makes the results 'pop', just like well, a second coat of paint! Had they crammed in too many grafts initially, half would have died and he'd have the same result but spent more money and wasted valuable donor hair. He's doing all the right things and has received great advice I'd say.

It has been a year and I am just torn to be honest. On one hand I don't mind it that much, but on the other I feel like I am missing out. I don't know what it's like to have different hairstyles and things...I am norwood 3.5, no problems with the crown but bays in my forelock are huge...
    I have been taking finasteride for 2 months and I am considering a hair transplant...but I feel like I would need around 4000 grafts to make my hair look good. Also I have a huge forehead...actually I even stay a little bit overweight just because my head would look ridiculous if I had a strong jawline...I would look like megahead...

      I think it really depends on many factors, not just the hair. If you are otherwise a tall, well built guy, chances are, a bald head will suit you well and you are likely going to realize that you actually look good bald. But Zack is short and skinny and not even remotely muscular, so he is very likely already having a hard time to accept his looks. Add a balding head on top and you can see why he is/ was so unhappy.

    I have a question, this is the back story:
    Im 19 years old. I saw that my hair is reciding (like norwood scale number 2-3, the tempels) and i know that they are not wisdowms peek because i know how my fathers hair is. I went to a dermatologist 5 days ago and they gave me minoxodil, a dht blocker shampoo and a multi vitamin type thing which will help to secure my hair. I rejected the pills because of the libido loss thing (didnt wanted to have a very strict medication precision in this age acctualy).
    My question:
    In my search, i found out that after age of 35-39 dht levels decrease. So if i use dht blocker shampoo and minoxodil till 45 or something, will my "minoxil protected hair" become my "normal strong hair" after some age?

      @bambi7563 Před 2 lety +36

      He had both severe recession and fine hair and these surgeries don't typically aim to give you back your teen hairline as that can end up looking unnatural so it's not due to a bad surgery or anything. Also many celebrities who you see get this have gotten more than one surgery so it's usually not a one and done fix you many times have to go back a second maybe even third time especially with hair like Zach's. The result was actually pretty good. Anyone who says otherwise either thinks surgeries are some magical fix for everyone or they forgot just how thin Zach's hair had gotten

    My suggestion, and I forgot where I heard it originally, is that if you suspect you are going to have a receding hairline, pick some time while you're young to just shave it all off. From then on, you will know what you look like bald, and can go back to it if you would rather choose a bald look over hair transplants.
    I did this for St Patrick's Day back in 2019. I got a lot of compliments. I think having the beard helps, because a lot of people said I looked like a badass or an action hero.
    But I feel like you should know exactly what you will look like bald, because once you go with transplants, there's kinda no going back. If you try the bald look again, there will be noticeable scarring. So you will basically have to continue keeping up with the hair loss for the rest of your life. You'll want to know exactly what you would look like bald before you give it up as an option.
    After I did mine, I'm pretty confident I'd rather just shave my head if the recession looks bad enough. Having picture to look back on gives a nice A/B comparison to see at what point bald looks better than receding.
