I had the same hairline as Logan Paul when I was in high school. A girlfriend in high school said I'd be bald in 10 years. I'm in my mid forties and still have the same hairline.
I always wonder what makes someones hair stops receding, is there any specific diet or just pure luck? I can only hope that my hair would stay the same as yours until I get old enough to not care about it. I'm 22 and already on Norwood 3. Been receding since 18. One can only hope.

@@detti9938 Oh I wasn't talking about medications type of stuff. You know like the doctor said, there's also guys that recede when they were younger but kinda stop at one point, probably continue receding like 10 years later. I wanna know how is that possible. Just wishing it could happen to me as well.
@Znyvi I think that's probably why. My diet and lifestyle is kinda bad. I'm a 22 college student so you know what I mean. Think I need to really start eating healthy. I know that male pattern baldness is mostly genetic but maybe somehow being on a good diet helps the hair stays longer.

Doc, you mentioned inflammatory hair loss. I actually went to a barber about three months ago, about 40% of where he used a clipper on me had become inflamed, and those areas have been sparse ever since. It's been three months so far without regrowth. Should I still expect regrowth? Is there a time frame for these sort of things, and is there anything I can do to help myself?
Hope it's okay to ask a question like this on here. This has been on my mind ever since it happened, and all of the dermatologists I've seen just say I look normal and turn me away without an answer.
Sounds like the barber fucked you up. Save up for a hair transplant while your still young. You’ll thank yourself in your late thirties
Did it get better? I don’t think it’s because of the barber. I think it’s that you just noticed it after the barber or the barber made it worse. I would recommend going to a hair specialist. I’m sorry I can’t answer your question any better I’m not exactly a doctor but I do have experience with hair loss although not male pattern baldness.
If you didn't notice any inflammation prior it's possible that your barber used dirty clippers and it could be a fungal or bacterial infection. Nizoral makes a medicated shampoo available online or OTC. I'd try that as well as massaging your scalp to stimulate blow flow. The massage will help with both healing of the inflamed area and will stimulate faster hair growth. I'm presuming that the fact that the issue has occurred where clippers were used means that you're referring to the back and sides of your head which is usually not the first place that hair loss issues present if you're just suffering from male pattern baldness... It literally doesn't follow the pattern at all. I'd try a few things yourself for 3+ months as well as changing barbers and doctors. Just keep going to doctors till one will listen. If you know somethings wrong don't take no for an answer. The amount of times I've been right and got dismissed by doctors is actually concerning. It's your body if you know somethings off then you know. It's that simple.
Dr Gary, what's your skincare routine?

That's because apparently the man has no hair and to be frank if you didn't have hair you wouldn't have to deal with a lot of pimples and uneven skin because there's no follicles protruding from the pores that would hinder and cause cells to die in larger clusters getting blocked up and causing an infection that results in pimples it would make hygiene more efficient to be hairless either he has alopecia totalis or alopecia universalis and to be completely honest I would love to induce alopecia universalis on purpose and just wear wigs and other hair prosthetics and never had to shave again and not be nasty for being overly personal and descriptive but I can't shave it's just unbearably uncomfortable and sometimes just downright painful and of course none of the other products and treatments work so now I have to hope hope for a product no one really wants because no one wants to get rid of their scalp eyebrows and eyelash hair but yet the majority of women and some men want to get rid of over 80% of their hair that's just not going to happen

So frustrating you’re based in the US! You sound so knowledgeable and clearly have your own techniques for better results.
I traveled to Zurich for an artificial disc replacement. The devices in Europe are more advanced and the surgeons have substantially more experience. I had an excellent result. 100% relief from discogenic spine pain that should last decades if not the rest of my life. However, there are many sloppy clinics, mostly in Germany, that market rather aggressively. We call them, "German Back Factories." Germany, of course, also has some excellent clinics. Your caveat emptor on medical tourism reminded me of this experience. On balance, medical tourism can be excellent, but one needs to think it through because there's basically no liability for these clinics and the shadier ones that make more mistakes tend to be the ones that also don't clean up their messes.
I think at the end about the FUT vs FUE.. I’ve read that FUT also has its benefits over FUE.. apparently it’s more reliable as it efficiently harvests the roots, where FUE, the roots can be damaged with the way it’s extracted.. you lose a percentage of the total grafts.
Also I’ve seen a new method of FUT, where it’s cut in an angle and you don’t see much scarring
How do you address weak beard hair roots and hair roots, meaning when beard hair and/or hair when plucked accidentally does not grow back?

I started thinning when I was around 16, and then it settled fairly quickly and wasn't really obvious until I hit my mid-twenties and then.. it started thinning from the back.
I started 1mg fin and minoxidil daily at 39. I’ve been a Norwood 2.5 for years, but felt like I was getting a little thinner and wanted to maintain what I have into my 40’s. 41 now, regained a little ground and no noticeable side effects.

For as long as I keep taking the medicine of course
@@sausagelizer4444 if hair loss runs in your family I’d consider taking finasteride early to prevent any loss, wish I’d started a few years sooner. My best guess is I’m still in the 2-2.5 range, it definitely got thinker overall and more density from where I started.
Good job taking a medication given to cancer patients. You don’t know the real effects of that drug that aren’t noticeable yet. If you were NW 2.5 at 40 it’s safe to say you were going to remain that way for a long time. You do you though
You can grow hair where you dont have any... I've seen a lot of cases where that happened but it happens more often with people that use Minoxidil and microneedling not finasteride
True. There’s a misconception that minoxidil can’t improve a receded hairline.
Generally, one the follicles are dead they aren't coming back.
Though in some extreme cases some hair can grow back such as MtF sex change where hormones are completely changed (dutasteride + other heavy drugs)
@@jeromepowell1392 I read that the follicles don’t “die,” they just shrink until they can’t support hair. That definitely can be reversed in hyper-responders.

I've already taken isotretinoin which decreases testosterone also linked to sebum production and probably hair loss. The intention was to reduce acne though. It worked but decisively decreased my sex drive. That's also perfectly fine because I had been a berserk til then. Finally could concentrate on everything else but sex. But I've noticed I'm not performing that well anymore in the sheets. And there's no hormonal reversion available at that point while testosterone only goes further down with age. For that reason I look forward to subsidize with medical testosterone at some point. But finasteride I'm afraid could further the situation to a point where I'm not satisfied anymore with the sex situation. Any experience?
Im on roaccutane right now and on month 5. My hair noticeably thinned out.

I understand that minoxidil only works on ~40% of men. Can you comment on this. Also, how can one know whether or not they are responding to it? I use the Kirkland brand one twice daily, as I believe it's the same active ingredient found in Rogaine.

I'm thinking about the micro nailing. But I'm reading more about it.
Any troubles in the bed? lol
U using fin too ?
Hello Dr. Gary! I felt prompted to ask you a question after you made a comment about Paul's corn rows/rolls; something to the effect of the tightness damaging the hair follicle... Fair enough, I've heard that before. What I was wondering about was short, terse, pulls on hair bunched together in your fists 25 times. Lol... I know it sounds strange but it's something that is done in the yoga practice and is purported to increase circulation(not surprising with yoga, right?) in the scalp area, resulting in benefits in every aspect of hair health. Any thoughts?
I remember hearing that even just highlighting/ dying one’s hair roughens up the hair shaft and makes it look fuller. Of course a hair cut as well. Instead of just having long hair that “weighs down” the volume.
12:00 I always experience heads being shaven before transplants (not talking about the donor area of course). is it really necessary to have the transplant area short or is it just the most convenient for the surgeon (let's say you'd need a second transplant on the very top of your head only, which results could be covered more easily if you could keep the slightly longer hairs during procedure) ? thanks for all the honest information

FUT gives you a lot more hair and also it's the most robust DHT hair on the scalp. If you're a NW6 or 7 and beyond, FUE alone isn't the way to go unless you take body hair from the beard or scalp as well. FUT combined with FUE is a plausible way to go.

How are you, bro?
I feel like the only way to ever accurately judge somebody's hairline evolution/devolution is by having 2 images side by side where the hair is completely wet and combed to the back. Otherwise, there are way too many factors that influence the perception of hair density. That's why Derek's attempts at analyzing are almost pointless. If you are sporting a hairstyle with bangs and/or using hairspray and volumizing shampoo you can start your day looking like you have a lush head of hair. A few hours later, maybe after some grease or sweat built up in your hair, that impression is nearly going to take a 180 degree turn.
At what point should I seek out medication to slow down/prevent hair loss? My hairline has just started to move back at 24, just barely. No noticeable thinning.
Now is a good time.
Start PRP now 💗

I honestly think Logan has a naturally high hairline with some normal recession and a fine hair texture which may indicate early thinning or not. That picture of him at 21 backs that up as his hair seems stable. Also saying he is two years away from shaving it off is a bit of an overstatement but I guess that's his passion coming through 😂, I do enjoy Derek's videos. With regards to his dramatic hair difference, we all have good and bad "hairdays", on some it's limp and lifeless on other its like a lions mane. Blow drying, shampoos that have a lot of foaming agents, matt hair products can create the illusion of density within minutes

@@CJ-lr4uq A lot of people do, including myself. Just because you're receeding doesn't mean it's going to fall out "overnight" although it does seem likely he'll lose a fair amount by middle age. Dr Linkov, is it possible or ever achieved, with not taking finesteride after a transplant and end up keeping the new hairs long term? Or do you lose it because DHT will affect the top of the scalp regardless?
I have always wondered, why is scalp hair different than body hair? Are the folicles themselves different or are they influenced by the area where they grow?
Different % of hairs in anagen growth phase
Would Finasteride be recommended for Diffuse Thinning?
Generally yes. But like any medication it needs to be prescribed with side effects in mind. Not everyone should be on it. Please consult with her local provider.
One of my friends got bad side effects so definitely discuss with your doctor what they are.
Is minoxidil safe to take in conjunction with micro needling?

I wouldn't think he'd hide it. I think he'd have an new haircut. He tries to hide his forehead with the bangs
Is finesteride taken 3 times a week effective?
I have read that that amount is enough to build up to the same effect as taken daily.
Yo could u debunk or prove whether the curly afro hairstyle leads to baldness quicker due to people picking it out and tugging at it w/ long curls. My uncle thinks that case since he and his brothers all had large afros and got bald quickly in their 20's
It’s because guys (especially back then) often don’t pick their hair properly, starting from the roots AND picking it dry, literally ripping their hair out routinely until it no longer grows

My mother has rather thin red hair (she is 50). I have moderate-thickness blonde hair, but I loose about a handful of hair daily (some loss due to other medication). Can I use Rogain to ensure my hair doesn't loose more thickness? (I fully understand the commitment of using Rogain).

I have always had a messed up hairline that I was self conscious about. Its not “pushed back” or receding, just not straight and very irregular.
I have several random hairs that grow quite a bit lower then the hairline and it causes an illusion that part of my hairline is thinning. I was paranoid as a teen that my hair is thinning.
But my hair has remained identical over the last 20 years.
In my mid 30’s and I’m pretty confident I won’t be balding anytime soon
I have zero interest in this topic, but I always like hearing logical breakdowns of any topic. It's just nice hearing experts talk about stuff I know nothing about.

I do perform blepharoplasty. Will make more content on it. So much to do!
I'm diffuse all over the top in pearl shape but my donors are very thick... Does that make me a bad candidate for a hair transplant
Not necessarily. That’s a common scenario.
How long does PRP last before hair starts thinning again , it's lot of money to spend I'd expect my hair to be okay for at least 5 year after 3 sessions?
Just stared minoxidil and finasteride, hairline has receded quite a bit on one side so looks very uneven, can this help even out the line?

But I've noticed I'm not performing that well anymore in the sheets. And there's no hormonal reversion available at that point while testosterone only goes further down with age. For that reason I look forward to subsidize with medical testosterone at some point. But finasteride I'm afraid could further the situation to a point where I'm not satisfied anymore with the sex situation. Any experience?
I have been balding and have been shaving it completely for several months now. Honestly, I don’t even mind it and since I’ve started working out regularly I honestly feel like I look better now than ever. My hair was always a mess - thinning, dry, terrible cowlick, bad hairline. Looks clean now. The only problem is I can’t grow a damn beard lol. Can I get a transplant for that?
Beard transplants are actually a thing

I’ve heard topical minoxidil can be applied to the beard area and can grow it.
Could be worthwhile to research
Bald is sexy…IMO
Beard transplants are indeed a thing. Some practices due to COVID don't want that close face-to-face interaction just yet but it's possible that with the right precautions, there are clinics that will do it. Sometimes they take other beard hair, like under the chin and move it within the beard itself. Better likelihood of a texture match...
My hair was really thick and fine and then about after 7 months I’ve noticed it feels and looks thinner than before, I’ve bleached it twice and dyed it 3 times in the span of those months and I’m not sure if that’s the reason or if it’s something worse, can you tell me your thoughts please, I’m 17 and pretty nervous
It’s the bleaching
Unsolicited advice from someone who has thick fine hair and over bleached for 4 years and recently quit, if u notice it thinner now, absolutely listen to your body and stop. Appreciate your natural hair. It takes time to come back.
Stop dying and bleaching it
My mom has done a lot of things on her hair when she was young and now her hair will only grow upwards (idk how to explain it properly lol) because it became more curly.
Unless your hairline is receding or you're balding on your crown you're fine, it'll most likely grow back eventually.
