- Guys - we're finally back on the road in Lake Toba, exploring the magic of Samosir Island in style on our brand new scooter.
This month, we farewelled our trusty pink scooter Rosita after months of breakdowns. Finally, we are able to drive the backroads and even go uphill without sputtering to a halt. Bliss!
Join us on another little trip to explore the amazing scenery and see more of Lake Toba.
On a stunning, sunny, Sumatra day, we head up into the hills to one of our favourite Samosir viewpoints - lovely Sipira - to enjoy a bowl of noodles and get some of that fresh mountain air.

Velma!? Hahaha. She said thanks but no thanks. Yesterday I got to touch my first buffalo (it was a baby but still scary). You can see that in our upcoming video haha. ☺

Terima kasih Liz! New bike is such a treat. Hope the weather is better for you now! Still hot and sunshine-y here. We haven't had thunderstorms for a while as it has been very dry. The waterfalls aren't flowing at all!

Helmet came free with the bike! Score! You can leave helmets on the bike in the middle of a busy market and nobody will take them. Very safe here. And yes - those daily steps are paying off!! We often talk about how you would LOVE it here. xxx

Yes, many changes, but it still feels small and quiet and it's still so pretty! Ahh yes, bandar lampung is very far! We hope you can come back and visit one day.
Ahh , it is far if go with plane , but I use to go by car , so it is quiet far for me hahahap

Do you have any recommendations regarding a stay on Lake Toba if I can't drive a scooter? I would love to stay around the lake in July, but I don't want to feel too isolated if nothing can be reached by foot or some sort of public transport.
Hi! Definitely base yourself in Tuktuk. It's a beautiful little village where you can walk to restaurants and shops - and even after 2 years living here we still don't get bored of wandering around! From Tuktuk, it's also a reasonable walk or bicycle ride to Tomok or Ambarita, where there are markets and cultural attractions to visit. If you wanted to go further afield, there are some excellent guides that can take you on day-trips - either on their scooter or by car :)
