The stretch from 42nd to 72nd, now that’s how you’re supposed to operate the 3 train. Great ride 🤝
🏆🫡
72-96 maybe even better until 2001 when timers installed on straight continuous track. 🫡
Yeah. 50-57mph! Amazing
Lance, that stretch on 7 Av is god tier whether you’re on a 2 or 3 train. You’re a rocket on both the 2 and the 3. That’s why I give the 2 the nickname “the red monster” because of how it’s R142s can roar with its HVAC system when blazing through the express track and the 3 rockets through quietly which is why I give the 3 the nickname “the red rocket.” It’s god tier, that’s why the 🔴7 Av Line🔴 is my favorite mainline in the system.
2 and 3 are basically the same there both great stretches
Shoutout to the dispatcher who held us at 42st that allowed that 2 to get further ahead and that run to 72 st to be great.
i listen to these while I lay in my bed
The aesthetic is calming
I'm gonna try that 👍🏾
Same
Same. Very soothing. Helps me fall asleep :)
🏆
7th ave express between 42nd and 72nd is arguably the best express run in the system, perfect capture of how great it is
🏆🫡
I place it behind the Flushing Express from 61st to Junction in terms of sheer speed, but yes the 7Av Express is right up there!
@@markholmes3592the A/D from 59th to 125th is a crazy stretch and the speed we hit sometimes is beyond me 😂 sometimes I’m like woah slow down
Whether you’re 2 or a 3, it’s always fun to zip through on 7 Avenue express
Indeed!
0:47 this operator sped out of new lots Ave, that is amazing 🤩
As a Operator I give props to that train horn action at Chambers. (1)/ (3) Making that connection so riders can catch the express route is why I respect the train operators/conductors for that.
The little commuter running to catch the train at 42 st is hilarious. @50:00
As an operator on the 3 who picks it every chance he can get, this made me smile. That’s a T/O who runs on business that did that. When I come around to chambers and see green in the leaving end of the tunnel I know it’s ON going uptown.
Thank you for your service to NYC. 🫡
How fast do you go? 48? 55?
@@lightning77125 depends on the set and where. Most times I on average hit 72nd NB at 44. But sets like 1501 or 1535 as the operating motor can creep up to 47-49 but your braking has to be on point
You seem to be about an average driver, most go around 44-51 passing 66 St-Lincoln Center going uptown and 45-52 coming into 50 St off that gradient going downtown. Some N/B drivers go up to 57 while S/B can even go 60 under rare circumstances. Houston St might be even faster going uptown than Lincoln Center, I’ve been on a Harlem-bound 3 going 58, they go 40-47 past Canal then pick up speed. Much less consistent than Lincoln Center tho to get a 45-50+ uptown express. Ik you were talking about uptown trains arriving at 72, I think they go a bit faster passing Lincoln Center that’s why I say 44-51 but you’re average going into 72 at 44.
@@lightning77125 whatever floats ya. I enjoy my runs
Watching These Vids Of These Train Lines Gives Me A Great View Of What NYC Looks Like
🫡 Thanks for sharing.
One of my favorite lines to work
Thank you for sharing and for your service to the city 🏆🫡
The pigeon at Junius St is unfazed 😂 @4:21
Thanks for sharing this video! I remember when the 2 trains were going to New Lots Ave b4 the switch with the 3 trains in 1983 was considered the longest ride back in the day. Also, the 2 trains were nicknamed the Beast to the East. A lot of great memories.
Thank you and respect for sharing the history of the system/line 🫡
@@wtaenyc you're welcome!
The 3 train line is my favorite line of the new york city subway
🏆 Which line takes the 🥈?
The 3 is a lot of fun. Trust me. I love 7 Avenue a lot. All the lines on 7 Avenue are S tier. I personally like the 2 the best though
Amazing video. One suggestion: add a speedometer near the bottom right to see how fast the train is going. As far as I know, nobody else has done that and it could be a fun lil feature
Thank you so much for the compliment and suggestion. 🤔🫡♾️
THIS is the video I've been waiting for, for the LONGEST TIME!!
With many many thanks for this video and your others, especially the express train runs. You give great pleasure to this railfan and capture the essence of the subways.

Looking forward to your bronx to brooklyn 5 train video!
As a child growing up with the subways, this video is such a gift. Brings back hundreds of memories.
Thank you. 🙏 🚇

Thank you for these videos. I'm not from NYC (I am from Melbourne, Australia) but I have always been very interested in the NYC subway. These videos let me see how the subway runs without having to come to NYC. It's amazing how all of this was designed and built over 100 years ago! It still transports millions of New Yorkers every day safely, quickly and efficiently. (Also these videos are very relaxing in the background and help me feel less anxious. The sounds of the subway are beautiful.)
Thank you for sharing and looking forward to you visiting and experiencing it for yourself, in the future. 🦘↔️🗽🫡
Thank you for this! Ever since that fantastic southbound 3 video, I've been waiting for the northbound. Unfortunately like the SB trip, the 2 train slowed us down. This time even worse. With the exception of a nice run from 42-72, all we got was a good look at the back of an R142 from Nostrand to 135.😔
Unfortunate indeed but honored you were still able to appreciate it. 🫡
Wow! I was really wating for this after the 3 to new lots
I remember and rode it back, when it was the number 2 train LOL.
The little tune the operator did at the end with the horn is so wholesome ❤ Whoever it was has a very smooth and efficient operating ability
Yes, he gave a "Haircut and a Shave" horn play!
A nice Sunday treat 🔴🔴
Really enjoyed the video, crystal clear, thanks.
One of my favorite IRT subway lines! 😁👍🏾🌟🚉
Finally❤
Great thanks. I like watch videos about NY subway. Magic video.
Growing up in Brownsville Rockaway Ave was my stop. I remember way back when 3 trains used to go to Flatbush Av and the 2 went to New Lots Ave.
i kept checking everyday for a video. im excited about this one. i live on the 3 train line so its great to see it from this prospective

The "Red Rocket" is awesome as usual. I'm so happy you finally did it going North to Harlem. That Lenox Terminal is unique. Thank you for your wonderful work :) That express run from 42nd to 72nd is absolute GOLD. The R62s will forever be my favorite :) The conductor gave the "red rocket" the justice it deserves :)
Thank you; Your support is appreciated 🫡
Successful video of the Three Train, Mr. WTAE. My favorite is the stops of Brooklyn including in Crown Heights, Franklin Avenue - Medgar Evers College, Eastern Parkway - Brooklyn Museum (My favorite museum), and of course, Borough Hall. 😄

Making both of the sides of Northbound and Southbound is a Good Idea! And how did you do a video on Front View on the Tracks with Running with a Train?
If I was in charge of the urban planning in NY I would use eminent domain to destroy and expand Livonia Ave to Linden Boulevard. It would make the street grid way nicer and pleasing to look at and you could extend the 3 train to the aqueduct racetrack and beyond in Queens. But that’s just me 🙃
Thanks for sharing 🫡. We look forward to seeing what the future brings now that you have shared your opinion on an extension.
Hey bro love your videos, I'm supposed to be taking the test for train operator in a few months , any advise or study guides you recommend. I really want to get this job😊😊

You guys look at that 3 train to New lots av Because of the First 5 cars they said at 135 so they are opening on brown things and stuff
1:07:58 One of the few at-grade divergences on the system.
A Northbound 3 and Southbound 2 would collide here.
Northbound 3 trains must wait for a Southbound 2 to cross, or a Southbound 2 must wait in the tunnel before the switches for a Northbound 3 to pass.
Usually, one track will rise and "flyover" the other, but this is an old interlocking. Check here to see a train take the other route.

29:34 What a gorgeous view from a track geometry artistic viewpoint. Someone should make a photographic album of these kinds of best views; I wonder whom that would be. Hint, hint. Not me. I'm semiliterate with computers.
34:24 It sounds a mirror image of one of our streetcars going around a corner here in Toronto. 🤣
37:59 I love those arch ceilings; it gives me a religious experience. It's actually much prettier, and stronger than flattop ceilings.

49:58 I see a rat on the catwalk. I feel sorry for him. It must be a hard life. He has to eat
all that crappy food that people throw away, and then try and sleep when the trains are making noise all night. Maybe he'll get a better lifetime next lifetime.

55:40 Why do the express tracks dip lower than the local tracks here ?
57:12 Bellmouth, and abandoned tunnel on the side. Future plans, maybe ?
57:47 I love this roundtop double track blasted tunnel. It's gorgeous.
1:07:59 English style flat junction common around London, England, but rare in North America. i.e. The southbound Bronx track crosses straight over the northbound 148th
St track without a switch. North Americans love their damn switches; they rarely do too
many switches in London, England.
