Fun fact, originally the D Train ran via Brighton in Brooklyn, but when both legs of the Manhattan bridge reopened in 2004, they swapped the routes of the B and D trains with the B train going to Brighton Beach via Brighton Express and the D running via West End to Coney Island instead of running via Brighton
Back in the 1960's the D train ran on Culver line making F train stops.. To Coney island via the Culver line
@@sopaman1234 they were rerouted to Brighton in 1967

When I lived on the West End in 1986-7, it was the B. At the time, the trip between 25th Ave & Dekalb took about an hour because the 4th Ave subway tracks were skeletonized. Crossing the bridge was also agonizingly slow because of the closure of the north side (everything was running via Bway). So nice to see it running as it should!
Thanks for sharing...Shoutout to all involved in the upgrade of the system; those run times back then must have been a drag but times continue to change and service improved. 😮💨🏆
What do you mean by skeletonized?

The D Train to The Bronx was quite a fast fun ride! The express ride between 59 Street-Columbus Circle to 125 Street-Harlem was great! Though Duke Ellington's Orchestra didn't play a song about the D, it's a cool alternative to the A if you're in a hurry to get to Harlem! One time, I did ride the D during non-rush hours and noticed it stopped at 161 Street Yankee Stadium. However, if you like the view coming out of the tunnel and seeing the ball yard, take the 4 Train. I took a friend on my travels, and he liked it. The D was good. but he preferred the 4 Train. The R-68 train in this video had good speed throughout the whole trip. I enjoyed the experience!!

Thank you so much for posting this. What a great ride. I’m always amazed at the foresight the subway planners had - they mapped out a subway system 100 years ago that is still vitally important today.
Goes to show that New York City is SMART; they kept their rail-based public transit, while Los Angeles and the rest of southern California moronically got rid of theirs! LA once had EVERYTHING needed to solve transportation problems of today back in 1910!!
I grew up on Perry Avenue and 206th street. We’d go right up that exit ramp by the front of the train then out and up the hill half a block. This was like coming home. Thanks for this.
Also, love the new “next stop“ maps.

Honored that this video can assist in bringing you back to the memories you have and shared, when this line was service by the B train.

🏆🏆. What was your favorite part of the ride?
@@wtaenyc the train going express
56:45 I love how the northbound express track kinks over to the right in order to drop down next to the southbound express track. You are then in the netherworld halfway between the northbound and southbound levels. It is just gorgeous, and I believe that this is the only place in the city that
this happens in a station; am I correct ?
57:04 Now the northbound and southbound express are next to each other again for the first time
since just north of 59th St. Columbus Circle.
57:08 Northbound drops to let the Northbound Local ride up over and on top of the Southbound
Express track. That appears to be why the Southbound Express doesn't also drop like the
Northbound Express does.
57:17 Now, while the Northbound Express is at it's lowest, the Northbound Local crosses over
it, and over to the right side.
57:26 Voila ! A standard 4 track side-by-side arrangement again !
I JUST LOVE THIS KIND OF STUFF ! I COULD EAT THIS STUFF UP !
Aarre Peltomaa of Mississauga, Ontario
Correction. 57:08 The Northbound Local shifts to the right (east) and then rides on top of the Northbound (not Southbound) Express, before shifting again to the east to drop into position alongside the other 3 tracks. Aarre Peltomaa

50:16 it's really cool seeing the *reverse cross platform* interchange at 7 Av in action
Quite intriguing; brilliant architecture
@@wtaenyc if I'm not mistaken, it's the first of its kind anywhere in the world
Can someone educate me on what a reverse cross platform is?
@@PRL2204 to start off: a cross-platform interchange is when two trains traveling in the same direction can transfer with each other from across the platform, which is present all across the Subway; e.g. Times Sq, Grand Central, Union Sq, Columbus Circle, W 4 St, Qboro Plaza, Jay St, etc.
A *reverse* cross-platform interchange is when trains do that, but while traveling in *opposite* directions: at 7 Av, E trains traveling westward meet across the platform from B/D trains traveling eastward, and vise versa.
This still provides a useful transfer, because although the trains are in opposite directions at the platform, they're both ultimately traveling in the same *cardinal* direction after leaving the station; the B/D and E all trend southward on 6th or 8th, respectively.
These kinds of interchanges can be found all over the world, such as in Montreal, Hong Kong, and Taipei, though they are rather niche and specific to the network geometry.
@@PRL2204 I'm sure you know what a cross-platform interchange is (Grand Central 4,56; Jay St A,CF; etc). A *reverse* cross-platform interchange is simply where the trains meet across the platform going in opposite directions, while still providing a useful transfer.

Fun But Upsetting Fact: The Grand Concourse Line was originally supposed to be 4 tracks (evidence of this is the 4th track between 167th and 170th). However due to the IRT (they were building the 4 line), filing a lawsuit with the city, the IND was forced to cut it back to 3 tracks 😃
I ride the d frequently from 125th to 34th and back. Great line but could use some new cars! I find it interesting the curves leaving and entering 7th avenue start past the platform haha
Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing those newer cars on the line as the system continues to gain the necessary resources. 🫡🏆
22:39-22:45 the car loses contact with the third rail. Never seen that long of a distance before.
Great observation with this one. Luckily it's not long enough for the car to lose power...or is it? 🤔
As long as one car has at least one collector shoe in contact with the third rail, the entire train remains energized.@@wtaenyc

Вопрос: с какой целью на станции 135 St построено 6 путей, два из которых вообще не эксплуатируются?
Большое спасибо за похвалы; для меня большая честь знать, что небольшие дополнения оценены по достоинству. Great question. Back in May 2012, the name was changed to its current name, “Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center.” Thanks for sharing the history of this line when it was the B line. The D started operating this line back in 2004.
Yeh see I moved to Long Island in 2005@@wtaenyc

Our videos have been edited using iMovie, Adobe Premiere and/or Cap Cut, with the last being the majority at this time.
I used to take the B train at Bay Parkway in Brooklyn. It went to 9th Ave. before it went into the tunnel to 36th st. From there it went express to Pacific Street. When did this change to the D train? Also, how come the D train after it left 36 st did not go express to Pacific St?
Thanks for sharing and asking your valid question. The change from the B to the D occurred some years back (mid 2000's) and along with that change, the Pacific Street station, as you know, has also been changed to Atlantic Avenue - Barclays Center. 🫶🫡
@@wtaenyc Thanks for the eeply.
Does anyone else think that the center track at each local station should convert to a local island platform with two new tracks occupying the side platform spaces to place 4 track on the Concourse line? The 4th track could start expansion from that storage track between 167th and 170th St station if it was planned.
What’s the other rail in the of the two rails throughout and it looks like it meets a box in the middle of the tracks. @17:50 as an example
Great observation and question. Those rails are referred to as, "guard rails," and they are installed to assist with preventing possible train derailments, train stability and a few other purposes related to efficient service. 🫶🫡

Great observation and question. It is believed that this area is not an abandoned station, but one that endured some of the many subway modifications/evolutions.

Why the horn at 1:02:00?
Great question. During non-rush hr times, this track is not being used and so, passengers may/may not be close to the platform edge and/or have their backs turned, while the express train is entering the station. The horn alerts the platform passengers as a safety protocol. 🫶🫡
