      So true. It takes a good understanding of how the systems work in order to pull off a retrofit. The experience and thus the knowledge that Warren has is amazing. Customers are not just paying for the work he does, but also for what he knows, and he continues to accumulate more knowledge all the time. I thought it was hilarious when he mentioned that a certain company doesn't want to use him to do retrofit work for them but when they call around the area to find another shop to do the work for them those other shops refer the company back to Warren. 😂😂
      It takes a special talent to pull these projects off and they're not for the average or newbie mechanic.

      So Warren is the owner of his shop and lead mechanic. This swap for any other shop, especially the OEM would be so labor intensive and time and parts, that it would be cheaper to just buy a EPA17 truck.
      There’s no way a OEM or other shop to make money on it. Warren can adjust his price and make it work on his books but the mental stress of piecing this truck together is priceless. You can’t put a price on it.
      I’ve been doing this for 3 decades and I would not even try. I would have gone back with a EPA10 or nothing.
      Good luck Warren. You are a warrior sir.

    Another Great Video, Warren. It’s amazing how much stuff changes in a relatively small model year change. Not like years ago when it was easier to swap engines. My friend was working on a 07 T800 Kenworth, it had been rolled over and a new cab installed. He knew the cab VIN was different when calling KW for parts. They checked the frame VIN and that came from a 1977 with a Cummins, not an 07 with a C15. It’s a pretty truck, pieced together out of a few other trucks. I appreciate your attention to detail and trying to keep it true to the VIN numbers. Thanks again for the videos.

    • @jr-wj1ec
      @jr-wj1ec Před 5 měsíci

      I think they do this on purpose so you have to buy parts from them at an exorbitant price or buy a new truck. They don’t want you to be able to fix them easily, I once heard someone say the manufacturers don’t make their money from new vehicle they make money from selling parts. Imagine if you had to build a vehicle from individual parts it would cost a fortune. Thanks for the video Warren

    Hey Warren, I tried your clutch trick when I had to replace the ring gear on my old F350. I got the engine back in ( it was easier to pull the engine than the transmission) but I couldn't get the engine close enough for the dowels to line up because I was held up by the throw out bearing. I lifted it back up so I could spin it enough to bolt the clutch assembly to the flywheel. Snugged to bolts up and went right together. When I torqued the pressure plate bolts, one was cracked and it broke off.😢 Fortunately I could get at the broken bolt through opening from the starter. 1/8" drill bit spun the bolt out as soon as it bit.😅 All sorts of fun! Thanks for the videos.

    Quite the project. Other hurdle maybe the cab controller (CECU) vin mismatch (I don't think it will allow it to start, not positive though). The controller should be the same, but may have to reflash to your donor truck vin and change all different parameters to match original truck. This way engine software could be updated and parameters changed if axle ratio, tire size, etc different as it is tied to truck VIN. Marman or Marmon, whatever used to describe the pipe coupling system had been the standard 20 degree flare and flange then started using "spherical marman" to allow for misalignment. Enjoy the content and sure you will get it all sorted out.

    I had a similar problem on my freightliner fld Cummins. The tensioner pulley for the belt for the clutch fan. The adjusting bolt that rides on the rail to move the pulley broke in the pulley. the pulley locking bolt is holding tension only. Got the adjusting bolt at one dealer in NH the pulley shipped from Cummins in Tennessee or Texas. The nut for the pulley is coming from another dealer. The vin number saved my ass. Newer trucks did away with the rail system and the tensioner swings with a socket wrench like on cars and small trucks for adjustment.

    The only concern that I would tend to ever have over welding up the holes in a frame is the weld causing the area to be come hardened from the welding making it brittle and perhaps prone to cracking over time with flex and vibration. Of course annealing the area with a torch after welding and grinding may help prevent this.
