#GerryRafferty #bakerstreet #reaction - Zábava
The first time I heard this song, I said, "That song is going to be a classic. People will be listening to this 50 years from now."
Right down the line is another great Gerry Rafferty song.
This song can blind side you if you never heard of Gerry Rafferty. It was a major hit, #2 Billboard late 70s. Baker Street is in London. Last name is pronounced, RAFF er tee
It's where Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson lived!
I was in London in 1975 and went looking for it but unfortunately the address 221B Baker St. does not exist.
@@coinneachmaclellan3121 So many folks believe Sherlock Holmes is a Real person!
@@coinneachmaclellan3121 The fake address is now a tourist destination on Baker St. You can go there and get your picture taken in front with a pipe and deerstalker hat.
Thank you for correcting the pronunciation...it is indeed raff-er-tee.
One of the most haunting hooks in rock. It'll stick with you for days
It's definitely a song full of fear and pain. Especially fear.
This is one of the "smoothest" songs ever written, truly. I could listen to this song and "Turn the Page" from brother Bob all night long.
Yes to Stealers Wheel, Stuck in the Middle with You. As others have said 😊
Now you gotta do "Right Down the Line."
Soon please!!!😊
Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street" is a very special tune.
When you said, “God” at the second sax solo I’m thinking “wait till the guitar solo” 🔥🎸 This song was a staple back in 1978!! Amazing ♥️
One of my favorite songs of all time. Brings back great memories! Great reaction
Your rendition of a saxophone at the end there had me in tears! 😂
The sax in this is amazing!! ❤
I have loved this song since it was released, and this is his most famous song recorded in his name.
As a songwriter, his most famous song is “Stuck in the Middle with You,” which he recorded with the band Stealer’s Wheel.
This is his most famous song as a songwriter in his own name. Stuck in the Middle was co-written by Gerry and Joe Egan. Also pretty damn famous though...
Another great song..'Right Down the Line' and his earlier band 'Stealers Wheel' with the worldwide hit 'Stuck in the Middle' (a tongue-in-cheek type of song!!) .. Which I played myself in various bands over the years. We never got sick of it! Great party tune!
OMG! Do I love this song! I had the biggest crush on Gerry Fafferty! I used to think,If we could just meet, everything would be perfect! Thank you for the memories, and RIP,Gerry, who knows what would have been!!!!
Great reaction! Granted, the sax, played masterfully by Raphael Ravenscroft, is iconic, but let's not forget about that killer guitar solo!
Iconic sax, killer guitar, great lyrics and sung by the wonderfully smooth voice of Gerry Rafferty all combine to make this song a complete musical masterpiece!
One of my favorite songs from childhood. The album version is considerably longer. Right Down the Line is also good
Stuck In The Middle With You - Stealer's Wheel
Gerry Rafferty wrote the song and the sax solo, he told the saxophonist what he wanted him to play
The late Raphael Ravenscroft with the epic sax riff.
This has been one of my most favorite songs for decades now. Whoa is right! It's phenomenal! It takes you there with the shlyrics!
Thanks for your reaction! Gerry Rafferty was founding member of the 70's band, "Stealer's Wheel" before he went solo. I know we were recently chuckling about the Three Dog Night's "Mama Told Me Not To Come" in your recent reaction and that song reminded me a lot of Gerry Rafferty's song with Stealer's Wheel called "Stuck In The Middle With You". I would love to see your reaction to Stealer's Wheel's "Stuck In The Middle With You" while the Three Dog Night song is fresh in your mind.
Good call! That's a must!
Gerry Rafferty was originally in a folk duo called The Stumblebums. His partner later gained huge fame as the stand up comedy legend Billy Connolly.
@@BobSoltis1 I didn't know that! The comment section is so great because I learn so much! Thanks for that info!
Before Stealer's Wheel, Gerry was a member of the Humblebums which also includrd Billy Connolly.
Baker Street is in London. Excellent song. His name is pronounced Jerry RAFF-uh-tee. Scottish musician and great songwriter with a beautifully smooth voice. This was by far his biggest hit, but you should also hear "Get It Right Next Time" and "Right Down The Line". He started in a folk and comedy duo called the Humblebums before founding Stealers Wheel and then going on to a long solo career. Sadly he died a few years back. RIP Gerry.
Baker Street is famously the street Sherlock Holmes resided on
"GET IT RIGHT THE NEXT TIME"🎷🎼.
"RIGHT DOWN THE LINE"🎷🎼
HERES A COUPLE MORE BANGERS by Mr. Rafferty👊❤️👍👌🎷🎷🎷🎼🎸🎸🎸
This is my summer going to the beach song. Even if I hear it in the middle of a winter blizzard I am transported to walking the boards at the Jersey shore.
Glenn Frey 🎷 You Belong to the City
Quarterflash 🎷Harden My Heart
Dream Theater🎷 Another Day
Thanks, Biz - this song is very evocative to me - leaving work early on a Friday afternoon - paycheck cashed, driving home along the Milwaukee lakefront - whole weekend and whole life ahead... windows down, summer breeze... the epitome of freedom! Gerry (pronounced "jerry" Rafferty - RAFF-er-tee) had several solo hits - and was also the lead singer in "Steelers Wheel" - you may know "Stuck in the Middle with You" -- love your reaction...
Hello from Madison where I did the same around a different lake!
@@Calmontheoutside Hello, neighbor! I'm now in Lake Mills -- halfway between MKE & MAD... :)
ANYONE that was popular before the eighties is worth listening to. Good golly, we had it good . . . . .
My favorite Rafferty tune is his optimistic sounding “Get It Right Next Time.” It grabbed me the first time I heard it, probably in the late ‘70s. “Stuck In The Middle With You” is a great one too.
Pronounced "Jerry" and "Raff-er-tee"
Top shelf music! ❤
Gerry (Jerry) Rafferty (Raff er tee) is the way its pronounced (hope this helps) his style is more so, considered to be smooth jazz rock, and blue-eyed soul. Here's another one of his biggest hits "Gerry Rafferty - Right Down The Line" that saxophone drives the emtion throughout this whole song, it's definitely one of my favorites.
Biz, your reaction to this song is pretty much the same as everyone else’s the first time they heard it in the late 70’s. It was like discovering music for the first time. This song is definitely part of the soundtrack of the 70’s.
Exactly! I was only about 14 but I remember being blown away at first hearing
This song always just mellows me out!
🎷💯 I've loved this vibe since wayyy back‼🔥
🤯 Gerry Rafferty was SO CHILL & OMG that sexy sax just does it for ya, right⁉️ I knew you'd dig this one‼It's just SO DOPE‼☮ ❤ 🎶
Memories of going down to the beach after graduating from high school. 🔥
"It's got so many people but it's got no soul". Profound lyrics. Judging from your response you felt it too. :)
And that saxophone riff is one of the most famous in the world. Once you hear it you'll never forget it
Yes! This song is Fire! I recommend listening to The Year of the Cat by Al Stewart. It’s amazing!😌
I always appreciated the acoustic guitar work in On the Border by Al Stewart
Wow...got this 45 (yes, a record) in 1978. Amazing song. He was with Steelers Wheel, Stuck In The Middle With You best known song.
Ohh!! I'm so happy you got to Baker's street! One of my favorite songs senior year. So happy you enjoyed it. It was so moving back in the day. Still is. ❤❤❤❤❤✌
Name pronounced "Jerry Raff-er-tee." How about opening a song with a pretty sax solo? Original and nice. As said below, their big hit was "Stuck in the Middle with You." Another real good one is the Beatle-ish "Star", a big hit in the UK and US in '74.
A great number
Still gives me goosebumps, especially the solo's from the saxophone and of course the quitar.
❤❤❤
This is one of those songs that can chill you out and fire you up at the same time.
Hey Bizmatic, great reaction, the long version has a lot more of that goosebumpin' sax!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
This song is what made him famous, and i love it, but my particular favourite is “Get it right next time”, the live studio video version.
His album “North & South” is still, after 40 years, in my top 3 favourite albums of all time, and I’m over 70.
Killer song ✌️ it's the saxophone 🎷 for me
My take on this song.. from the perspective of a young lady in her early to mid 20s who had moved to the city, thinking that's where she'd be happy, maybe find the right guy, the ideal career and go places and be fulfilled.. but day after day it didn't pan out.. instead the guy she loves is a player, doesn't want to settle down.. the city she thought was interesting and full of magic turns out to be cold and soulless.. her dreams circling down the drain, the lure of the city was just a delusion like an oasis mirage in the desert.. she decides its over, she leaves and goes back home.
This song is about being a Touring Musician always on the road but kind of longing for home.
To me it's about a girl who's with this guy whose a loser and the end of the song she finally decides to leave him and go back home . Just my take on it . the sax and guitar solo pure honey
Right down the line should be next from him 🤘✌💞
Gerry was pretty clear on what the song was about, and it wasn't that. It's pretty autobiographical, and was about his disillusionment with London, and the music business after years of not being allowed to release music due to legal disputes over the Stealer's Wheel breakup. Gerry had a friend who lived on Baker street whom he would stay with when he was in London. Gerry was a big drinker, to a fault, and when he was in London, he and his friend would often stay up all night, talking and playing music. The line "You're going home" refers to him finally getting back to being able to release his music.
First time I heard this song I was with my dad and the radio was playing. My mum entered the room to tell him that a family friend, a 22 year old woman, had been burned to death the previous night by the IRA. Then this haunting intro blared out. For years the song creeped me out. Yet I still enjoyed it! THAT is the mark of a great song.
Need to do " Get It Right Next Time " by Gerry too, another song with wailing sax
Yes!! My favorite. 😊✌️
Most of jerry rafferty songs were done and recorded in one take. That speaks volumes of this man and his bands talent.
Hey Biz, great react to a great song. Check out " Right Down the Line " by this same artist, I think you'll like it! Keep rockin bro. and peace out! 👍💯🔥🎸🇺🇸😎
Gerry -The Pride of Paisley, Scotland. Thank you, sir!
"Right Down the Line" was another big hit of his.
One of my favorite’s. Thanks
Love it!!! ☮️❤️😎
I think you pretty much nailed the meaning behind it. Good reaction! In my opinion, and I'm not alone, this is the best sax solo ever recorded.
Baker street is in central London (UK). It was made famous by author Conan Doyle, creator of Shelock Holmes (his character lived there).
_The Ark, Whatever's Written in Your Heart_ and _Home and Dry_ from this album (City to City) are too good to miss also!
Thanks for this! It had been long time! Love the reactions. Please keep them up.
You are welcome
Played this at a pizza place in Oak Harbor, Wa in late 70s in the afternoon and the waitress told me she'd already heard it 100 times that day. Ha!
Check out ‘Right Down the Line’ by Gerry Rafferty, pronounced Jerry Raff er tee.
Probably one of the top 20 songs ever written….
Baker Street is in London. It is most famous as where Sherlock Homes lived, but probably more important in this song is that it is close to the Abbey Road Studios.
Baker Street is one of the famous, old, expensive streets in central London. There is a station on the London Underground named after Baker Street. It happens to be the street where Sherlock Holmes lives in the stories - 221/b Baker Street. That's what most people think of when they hear the name. Gerry Rafferty had a friend living in a flat there when he was having to drive from Paisley in Scotland to London every few days for several weeks to deal with a legal case about getting out of his recording contract as part of a previous band without losing his royalties. So he'd drive several hours down the M1 motorway, deal with the London traffic, have to sit through meetings with lawyers going over all this stuff, all this pain with his bandmates as well as the label, and then he'd visit his friend in Baker Street and get drunk to cope with it all, before driving home again the next morning. I reckon maybe he was taking the Blackwall Tunnel under the river Thames, and that's what that first Sax break represents - coming out of that tunnel back into the light of day on the way back home.
The whole album, City to City, is one great song after another.
I love that song brings back memories when I was a kid I'm old now one of my favorite songs it's good to hear it James T
Im so glad i grew up with this great music.
The sax is a 'stroke your soul' instrument. ❤
another classic song frm v 70s, 70s had so many
I still blast this song in my car! I'm 62
🎶🎶"..... so many people but it got no soul..." 🎶
Great track. Great memories. 🙏 for reacting to this often overlooked gem.
I love the congas playing in the background.
Try “Right Down the Line”🖖🏼
Gerry (J sound so Jerry) Rafferty (Raf like Riff Raff, so Raff erty).
Wrote many good songs others sang.
Classic.. excellent musician
Actually, I never saw this live, so BONUS!!!
You used to think that it was so easy
You used to say that it was so easy
But you're tryin', you're tryin' now........
Another year and then you'd be happy
Just one more year and then you'd be happy
But you're cryin', you're cryin' now
Stop and think on those lines. That is some dope s*%(
Love this song 🎵 ❤️
The sax is amazing, but the guitar riff gets me every time!
I'M SO GLAD YOU DISCOVERED THIS!!!!!
Great pick! It's an "HONEST" SONG.
No, I think you were right. But Any street in any big city. He moved to the city, thinking it was the right move, but discovering it wasn't him, too busy, too dirty, too loud, distant people... Still, he thought if he just stuck it out for just another year, everything would even out and he'd be happy, but deep down, he knew it wasn't him or what he wanted. He may think he's a "rolling stone", but once he's in the country - peace, a quiet little town, fresh air, clear skies, he'll change his mind. Let's hope he finally gets his wish and finds his peace in the country, after all, that was what was in his soul. He's going home. 🌲🏡🌲🌲
So many people, but no soul.
The heart of the Tenderloin in San Francisco.
Raphael Ravenscroft is the sax player, but the solo was written by the song's writer: Gerry Rafferty. Rafferty's really only got 3 hits after this: "Get It Right Next Time," "Right Down the Line," and "Stuck in the Middle With You" from back when his band was Stealer's Wheel. I'd say that last one was his top song until "Baker Street" came out.
BTW, I believe Ravenscroft is a Hufflepuff. Just a guess! ;)
uhhh wouwhh, I have to thank a lot of people who write here -> Thank you! I know the album and of course the song "Baker Street". But I didn't know that Gerry Rafferty belonged to "Steelers Wheel" and I wasn't really interested in his past. It's going to be different now and I'm going to look around for vinyls. Thanks again for the input ! Best wishes @all from Hamburg (Germany)
Great sax solo/riff matched by the perfect guitar solo kinda like the great vocal in Nazareth's "Love Hurts" being matched by a perfect guitar solo short though it may be.
Gerry (Jerry) Rafferty (Raf•fir•tee) 👍🏼
Oh yes, someone mentioned Right down the line, next please.
Sax is like Moses parting the Red Sea moment.
This song has touched your soul
All time classic
Yo Gerry Rafferty has a bunch of great songs. I'd suggest Stuck In The Middle With You from Stealers Wheel (band he was in) or his song Right Down The Line.
Thank you for the blast from the past love this song
He had perfect pitch.. for real.
Speaking as an old Boomer fart , judging by this reaction , the human ear , heart , and soul has not gone extinct but is still alive and well.!
His name is pronounced 'Jerrie Raf - er- tee'. Baker Street is in central London, It is the street that the fictional private detective Sherlock Holmes lived in. The video includes some footage of Baker Street at the time the track was made, around 1978.
G(J)erry Raff er te, Sherlock Homes lived at 221B Baker Street London.
Great reaction! You can't get enough sax!
