This brings back memories for me as I was there when it was being filmed. There was a real BBQ at the end of the pool. Divers had to go in and get Joe Dunn the stuntman out of the red van. Dick Crockett was the stunt director. It was filmed on location at a real French villa up on a hill and Peter Sellers was watching them pull the van out!!! I even have photos, no mobile phones then. 💣🧨 Burt Quork was a lovely man (forgot how to spell his name). Many years later my son married a Japanese girl & her surname was Kato!! 🎎🈲🥋
This was a masterpiece of slapstick comedy. I laughed my head off from start to finish when I first saw it as a kid. Thanks for posting these memorable scenes (and there are many more)!
with sounding too pedantic , it is comedy farce , not slapstick. slapstick is laurel and hardy , marx brothers etc. farce is the most common comedy in movies and tv. a good example of farce comedy on tv would be ''fawlty towers''.
This was done by a different studio because the original studio thought the film series was dead and didn’t want to invest any money. Of course the film was a gargantuan financial success! And then the original studio came back in.
Cried and cried nearly died of laughter couldn't breathe and stop laughing as always excellent outstanding brilliant true comedy at its very best to peter sellers and the other actors and actresses who passed away my thoughts are with your family you may be gone but not forgotten still going strong keep the laughs old is solid pure gold much love and respect and appreciation job well done you should be proud appreciate the memories and a good laugh glad we are not on the road with him driving look wouldn't want to get in his way !!! Joe
I remember laughing my ass off when I first saw this scene as a kid sometime in the early 80s on TV. There is something so absurd about the tiny ridiculous vehicles he is driving.
Stupid french vehicles. They are perfect for this sequence, and are 50% of the humor. The french have made the world's ugliest vehicles, the Citroen 2CV being the funniest. They also did what my Dad called a "poached egg" car in the 1950s and 1960s. That horrible de Gaulle insisted on using one. It lifted up with compressed air when the engine started. I do a Nelson Muntz "Ha ha!" when I see to day's Citroens here.
I remember laughing uncontrollably when I first saw that scene when he goes into the pool WHILE they were removed the previous car he sunk into the pool
So far, he has destroyed a swimming pool and two trucks. And now he’s going to Gstaad. Gstaad? Today, a paradise in the Swiss Alps. Tomorrow, a wasteland! Compared to Clouseau, Attila The Hun was a Red Cross volunteer.
I think there was a mistake in the film when the man knocks on the door and says, Inspector, Inspector! How did he know he was an Inspector. Mr. Sellers was the best!
I hate it when my brake pedal goes all the way to the floor, especially when there are trusting pedestrians in the crosswalk. And they're always trusting.
ALWAYS reminded me of Wile. Coyote and Roadrunner these segments in the Pink Panther films - Peter Sellers at his best!!! 😂😂😂
Side splittingly funny I could hardly draw breath. He was perfect for this.RIP Peter

ah yes..... I remember it well.
As someone who is keen to scout filming locations, I would be grateful if you could tell me where near Nice this is. Many thanks.
Thanks for the reminiscence of the filming!
One one take for each crash.
still cracks me up even after all these years.....

I couldn't have said it better. Sellers was genius as Clouseau. This type of slapstick is rare today. Brilliant!!

As usual, anything that Clouseau touches starts deteriorating rapidly.
Just like King Midas

"Kato, fire up the silver hornet" XD
LOOOOOL!!!! Omg, my stomach. I tried not to laugh tool loud but it was too funny. Loved it!!
My dad was a huge fan of Peter Sellers and I ended up being one too...lol
when I saw they were still pulling out the car from the previous crash in the pool, I lost it hahahaha
I Just love twice in one day gag!!!!!!!!!!
Twice in the same pool,,and how he points at the bus as he avoids it!! Sellers did great after playing spiv in the lady killers in 1955! R.I.P
The 2CV van scene is one I have not seen for many a year so thanks for the upload.
Saw this in a repertory cinema, wasn't even high and I was literally falling out of my chair and lmao. I was 16.
Everything is by ACME
Thank you for posting this.
I am... in agonizing... lol'ing stomach pain! rofl
You suppose that was a reference to the Road Runner cartoons because every product that Wile E. Coyote bought from Acme was an utter failure?
Although the Road Runner cartoons really made it famous, I've heard Acme used for fictional corporations in other series as well. Even in James Bond.
I think in one Looney Tunes movie the Chairman of ACME addressed this claiming that the products are good.
the noise that the little yellow thing makes when it is going backwards made me loose it... also when he points HAHAHA
It sounds like it was re-used from Rocket to the Moon (1967).
1:30 The sound of that engine gives you for a split second the impression that the Hornet is a badass car.
"Not the best driver"Now, that's an understatement.
komkwam more like he picks the wrong automobiles
I Love It a Lot
Gives a whole new meaning of.....Carpool
I think they coulda done one more "car goes into pool" scene at the very end of the movie -with the two other vehicles on the side of the pool
It’s the chuffing noise that the Piaggio Ape makes……..
Pure comedy.
The RuDDy Sound Of That Yellow Vehicle Rattling In Reverse...😁😂😂
👮Inspector You Got To Get Some Better Vans!🙈🙉🙊
Excellent
That Clouseau's "vehicle" was the best.
Awesome
1:37 The car stopped at least for the stop traffic sign. And than the windscreen wipers at 1:40. Hilarious.

Lol! I like it when he doesn't know how to drive and controlling the vehicle and crashing. Hilarious!!!
and... at the first time he drives an "acme pool service"! car lol
What kind of car was Clouseau driving for the pheun service?
According to the Internet Movie Car Database, it is a Piaggio Ape.
Dan N It was a company car from ACME Pheun!
Divertentissimo !!! 😂😂😂😀
I have also tried over 50 years of driving, citroens and fiat, I didn,t get on with them, peugot too , what is it with those cars????....
Super driver! Thank you!
With the brilliant actor David Lodge
So far, he has destroyed a swimming pool and two trucks. And now he’s going to Gstaad.
Gstaad?
Today, a paradise in the Swiss Alps. Tomorrow, a wasteland! Compared to Clouseau, Attila The Hun was a Red Cross volunteer.
Damn adverts..ban them

To be fair... Is foulty cars, not him. But it's soo funny! Haha

When the peddles don't work and the gear lever comes out in his hand, and Acme Pool Service LOL!
@@tommyblack264 Yep you're right. My mistake.
In his defence they were defective

I want a " silver hornet " for a daily run about
You want one not oveurdo for the service.😉
The funniest parts were when he went into the swimming pool.
Says more about the quality of the vehicles than his driving, though!
French cars haven't improved much since!
