I went for a walk today with husband and dog, the further we went the more my lower back and legs started hurting. My mind tried to come up with reasons and I quieted it down and said Dr Sarno says your body is strong not weak, and I continued on. When I got home instead of lying or sitting down, I continued my regular plans of laundry, cooking breakfast, doing homework for seminar and in the middle of hanging up some shirts I realized I forgot the pain and it was pretty much gone. So your right its all about awareness and making a decision. Thanks!

This totally makes sense because when something bad happened in the past, we probably narrowed our attention to the worst aspect of the "bad thing," whether that was a car accident or a dad yelling at us when we were little. There must have been a thousand other things going around us at the time, but we only remember one aspect of the bad thing that happened. And often, we have pain or anxiety surfacing when our subconscious gets hijacked by the forgotten bad memories, being triggered by something that happens around us. It's like a ghost coming to the present moment. It's not happening any more but our subconscious thinks the past is happening now. So focusing on other things like areas in the body that feel good, or things around us that we can feel grateful for, etc, can teach our brain that it is not all that is bad, but there are a bunch of other stuff that is okay, safe and good. Then the brain can relax a little bit. I don't know if this makes sense to people, but as I was listening to Dan, I had an "Aha" moment.

You describe exactly what my day starts out like, in fear. Even the vertigo you mention has happened many times and I always fear it coming back. Listening to you calms my fear way down. This was the perfect thing I needed to hear.

This really resonated with me. Thank you. I've felt for a very long time that my fear and anxiety were inescapable. However, I can choose to not give those thoughts power. They are not keeping me safe. They are only spiraling me into panic: the very thing my thoughts are trying to protect me from.

I even wake up because of my anxiety and pain middle of night after having have trouble going to bed because of pain of 2 ankles and foot. But beeing hopeful has done change the deal also. Remebering that 3 weeks ago we would have been so happy to be as able as today. Never forget that. When the paim flares uP, it is not gonna be forever eve if it feels like forever. Movement is medecine.

True. When I would go out and hike my foot and hip pain would scream. But I just repeated I was ok. And I learned that the pain would never get any worse and would feel better later. I could count on that and that kept me going on the hike. Afterwards the satisfaction and happiness I felt completing the hike was greater than the pain I felt and confident I was closer to healing.

@@junkgirltoo5005 interesting to say it wont go any worse, quite reassuring ! And true in a way. The worst of this particularly challenge is behind us for good so lets not forget that. Good tips.:-)

And another thing that works for me is to remember when I had a recovery or improvement cuz the pain or relapse is momentary, if I could be good that moment, I will be good again.
Always keeping the faith, the hope, the positivity and trusting in God or the Universe 🌅🌄

The problem is Not ever the thoughts that Come to our Mind. We will have fearful thoughts to the day that we die. It is How you Process the fearful thoughts that count. I had trouble with indifference too. I like “Gods Will Be Done.” I turn my pain and symptoms over to a Higher Power. That gives me more confidence..and it works better for me.

I feel like I'm so good at distraction myself during the day . But when it comes to night time and my hubby lays peacefully asleep next to me. The anxiety kicks in. And in find myself greaving for "my old life" before all this . I try to take deep breaths . But I'm just so uncomfortable and the pain gets too much. I really dont know if I can do this. Any stress just throws me and I'm really loosing strength to be able to pick myself back up and start again.

Sarah - there's a whole logic and set of accurate information. Once you know what TMS is and that you truly aren't broken, it becomes easier and easier to shift your focus away from the pain and to ChOOSE your reaction to the pain. This video summarizes my suggestions: czcams.com/video/3vJgBnrhFt8/video.html
