The Dodge Coronet is an automobile that was marketed by Dodge in seven generations, and shared nameplates with the same bodyshell with varying levels of equipment installed. Introduced as a full-size car in 1949, it was the division's highest trim line and moved to the lowest level starting in 1955 through 1959. The name was reintroduced on intermediate-sized models from the 1965 until 1976 model years.[1] Muscle car versions were available starting in 1965 with the 383 and 426 wedge cu in (7.0 L) Chrysler RB engine, followed in 1966 by the powerful 426 cu in (7.0 L) Chrysler Hemi. Other performance models included the "Superbee", and featured, the 383 cu in (6.3 L) Magnum, among other engine options. The nameplate "coronet" is a type of crown worn by royalty.
In the 1980s, the Coronet was used on Dodge models marketed in Colombia.
The Coronet and similar Plymouth Belvedere received complete redesigns in 1968, as did the Dodge Charger, which shared the B-body platform. There was a mild facelift in 1970. Trim levels initially included the base Coronet, Coronet Deluxe, Coronet 440, Coronet 500, and Coronet R/T. The Coronet Super Bee was introduced in early 1968 as a companion to the Plymouth Road Runner. In keeping with Dodge's position as a step above Plymouth, the Super Bee shared the Charger's Rallye instrument cluster and the Coronet 440's rear finish panel.
As in 1967, the 440ci RB V8 was only available in the Coronet R/T in 1968. The 426ci Hemi V8 was supposed to be limited to the R/T and Super Bee, but two 1968 Coronet 440s are known to have been built with this engine.
The Coronet R/T 2-door hardtop and convertible continued through 1970.
The Super Bee was available as a 2-door coupe or 2-door hardtop. Chrysler displayed a convertible with Super Bee stripes at car shows in 1968, but never offered it as a production model.
The Dodge Super Bee was a limited-production muscle car from 1968 through 1971. The original Super Bee was based on the Dodge Coronet, a 2-door model, and was produced from 1968 until 1970. It was Dodge's low-priced muscle car, the equivalent to Plymouth Road Runner, and was priced at $3,027. Available with the Hemi engine, this option increased the price by 33% thus 125 models were sold with this engine option. The Super Bee included a heavy-duty suspension, an optional Mopar A-833 four-speed manual transmission, high-performance tires, and a stripe (with the bee logo) wrapped around the tail. The name "Super Bee" was derived from the "B" Body designation given Chrysler's mid-size cars which included the Coronet.

The 1st NEW car my dad ever purchased was a blue 2dr '68 Plymouth with a white vinyl top,...BEAUTIFUL CAR!,... and as you said, the fog lights were yellow bulbs with clear plastic covers. He purchased the car from a neighbor's Chry/Plym dealership, and within several months when the yellow bulb died, the dealership replaced the fog light covers with yellow covers and clear bulbs. He asked our neighbor "Why?", and as our neighbor was the head of the service department, he mearly told my dad, "Why do you care?". So now you know why YOU painted the front fog light covers clear/yellow: your Mopar service department head was a smart ass ! 😊😊

I wonder how many Mopar kits are left to reissue; Round 2 did a great job to keep Mopar fans happy lately! I think the '69 Charger 500 remains to be seen again, and IIRC there was rumors about the 1972 Charger coming back again soon?

This one came together nicely - I like how you've mixed the stock parts with the racing ones, but in all honesty those Round 2 decal sheets are so nice you have to find a way to use them, even if you didn't really want to build a racing car to begin with. As you used the Q-tips, I remembered an ad I used to see as a child that said Q-tips could be used for model car building. What you said about how they could handle the rear end treatment via a decal makes perfect sense; about 30 years ago the AMT 1993 Firebird kit had the taillights as a decal with a clear piece to cover them. Maybe they'll include that the next time this kit comes out?

Outstanding build for an outstanding kit, I'm soooo glad they're reissued some of the old mopar kits, And this kit can be made into a 68 dodge super bee too with some work, but I'm not a fan of the promo style chassis, you can use the 68 Roadrunner or 69 GTX etc, to remedy that, let's keep our fingers crossed for a 71 challenger and a 72 charger rally. Keep up the great work Chris.

  • @earlwidmeyer2654

Stunning build Chris! I've gotten back into model building since finding your channel. I built a "Smokey and The Bandit" Tribute. The AMT Kenworth 925, Fruehauf 48ft beaded trailer and the 77 Pontiac Firebird (Smokey And the Bandit edition). The truck had it's difficult moments but it turned out really well. I purchased a full decal set online of the Stage Coach robbery and truck stripes. I chose to use Rustoleum Black primer, Gloss Black and clear coat. These were paints I've seen you use before. The gloss black took a very long time to harden and when I did apply the clear coat- disaster stuck and orange peeled it all. I've never used these paints before and don't know what I did wrong. In one of you video's you said you use a dehydrator to speed up the drying time. What can a modeler do if they don't have one? Another thing I need yet to try is the floor polish clear coat. I seen the video that you did on a pickup truck- it still scares the crap out of me to do it.
    Awesome stuff
    Cheers
    Earl

So glad you mentioned the torture of doing an accurate Coronet 500 or R/T tail light panel. My TWO niggles are if you are doing an R/T or 500, the side scallops are trimmed in chrome - they easily could make 4 little chrome fingernail scallops on the sprue, and to me the tail light panel should be separate chrome piece allowing you blackwash it like 500 or R/T or paint it body color like lower trim Coronets. Other than that you KILLED it, especially that pesky rear panel!! . '68 500 was my first car at 18 in '71, 2nd was brand new 'Cuda in '74. In NE I had big fat snow tires mounted on Rallye Wheels on the Coronet - looked cool ! LOL 👀
