  • In this quick video I ramble about how to make a pomade! Which means to catch scent in fat! This method i used mainly for blooms such as Lilacs who's scents cant be extracted with the simple tincturing method!
    Also haha that little dreadlock sticking off the the side of my head like a deer antler was not known about until after i made the video LOL. Maybe i was channeling the bucks energy from the tallow ;)

    I had to laugh at the part at the bottom of your description talking about the dreadlock. At first I found it distracting, but because I am a hair twister I can not say a thing. When I am reading or trying to figure something out I grab that hair and twist. I sense something very sweet and genuine about you. Thanks for a great video and the message that we can make our own Medicines. ✌🏻❤

I make my own soaps and would love to capture some scent from the roses, without buying rose E.O. Or, any other good flowers to use with tallow, and would the scent transfer to a soap, if it was the main "oil" in the soap? Unfortunately, I live in a desert...where I grow roses : ) Any other scented flowers you can think of for the desert?

I already collected some resin and needles and made balm and was going to make syrup..Now your comment inspired me to try enfleurage, also. Maybe we can try with young spruce needles and cut them on smaller pieces so to release smell and some of resin. Also young cones can be used i think, and resin. Oh, so many possibilities! :)

    Hi April, We have just had lilac season and I remembered your video about infused oils. I am drying the flowers so they can be infused in avocado oil (as you'd recommended). Here you are using fresh petals. Is that because if you dry them the scent oil goes away? The water vs. fat is a problem in doing this.

    • @sheisofthewoods
      @sheisofthewoods  Před rokem +1

    • @sabrinazarogoza8686
      @sabrinazarogoza8686 Před 4 lety +4

      Leah Nelson I just found a shop on Etsy who offers vegan versions.
      She uses shae butter, jojoba, avocado oil, mango butter, etc.
      So, to answer your question, yes.
      You just don't want to use anything with a scent of it's own, like virgin coconut oil for example.
      I think things that are solid at room temp would also be easier to work with.

    • @calypso_lazuli
      @calypso_lazuli Před 4 lety +5

      @Sabrina Zarogoza Most oils have a scent of their own no matter what it is. The difference between a vegan version and the red meat version is that the vegan version is greasier like a body butter and it doesn't capture the scent as long as tarrow does nor does your skin soak it up as well. Tarrow is an odd way of making perfume because our society has grown to be so vegan but they used to make perfume with animal fats for thousands of years and it works.

    Its taken me a whole year to get some white tailed deer tallow rendered down 5 times to remove smell, melted and re-solidified in a pan like yours and with its first batch of lilac blossoms. I collected a lot of blossoms because it was going to rain and ruin the blossoms and I wanted to reapply them. Will the scent still be there after being stored 4 or 5 days?

    • @sheisofthewoods
      @sheisofthewoods  Před 2 lety +1

      Unfortunately the scent won't survive the saponification prosses of soap making.

  • @lajeanaphelps-davis7226

    I have a idea for super strick if one have a casserole dish with a lid, one could turn the lid upside down on top of it OR maybe a piece of foil (if that foil don't tank the chemicals of the scent) then wrap it tightly with the Surround wrap. Just a thought.
    I never heard of doing this before. I wished I knew this when my Dad was still a live and was deer hunting in his younger years I sure would have gotten some of the fat that he made into lord. Rats. Now I don't know anyone I could get some of that found. To me deer fat smell lighter than cow fat.
    Also can make scented candles from the tallow candles like the old history. I should have thought of that.

      You are definitely that smart! It's simply that we've removed ourself from things like touching animal fats on a regular basis so we just have to remember😊 most high-quality Tallow simply comes in a tub or a bag and is pretty soft to work with definitely softer than coconut oil you would simply melt it down like I talked about in the video once it cools put your lilac blooms over top and press it down. This is in fact the only way to catch the smell of lilac! It's like she actually craves to be with the fat!
