🐝 HOW TO MAKE HERB INFUSED TALLOW SALVE INSTRUCTIONS
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups grass fed tallow balm
1/4 cup dried comfrey leaf
1/4 cup dried plantain leaf
1/4 cup dried calendula flowers
1/4 cup dried chickweed leaf
2 tbsp beeswax
Directions:
Melt tallow balm over a gentle heat until it is liquid.
Pour needed amount of tallow balm into a quart mason jar.
Add dried herbs to liquid tallow balm and stir to incorporate well.
Create a double boiler by placing the mason jar on a cloth inside a saucepan with water.
Heat the water until it comes to a low simmer.
Let the mason jar full of tallow balm and herbs sit in the simmering water for at least 3-4 hours, but much longer is better. I often let mine go 12 hours. Just keep an eye on it and replace water in the pan as it evaporates.
Strain herbs out of tallow balm using a metal strainer lined with cheesecloth.
Put the jar of herb infused tallow balm back into the double boiler, and return it to the gentle simmer.
Add the beeswax to the herb infused tallow balm.
Once beeswax is melted, stir to combine well.
Pour hot mixture into tins or jars to store.
Allow tins to sit until salve is solid.
Put lids on containers and store in a cool, dark place.

What are some of your favorite home remedies?
Your awesome!!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!!!
You should try adding CBD flower into your herbs!!!
SPRUCE!
Would love to know how to add aqueous herbal extracts to tallow rather than infused dried herbs 🙏
Could we infuse oats? Or how would I go about that
Your channel is my absolute goto when searching for all these things!!
Thanks so much all the way from Australia 🇦🇺
Definitely going to make that this weekend. Got my chickweed today. You are such a gentle inspiration. Thanks for sharing. O have lots of rendertallow bit ordered another 10 kg fat to render. Your slow cooker method is the best. I saw another video of a.lady using a yogurt maker to infuse the oils. You just put the jar inside. Maybe easier without needing to check the water through the night. Or I will use my slow cooker
As a forager, I can confirm that this type of salve works as described. I wouldn't suggest using it on open wounds, but scratches, abrasions, light burns, bug bites, etc. it would be fantastic. I haven't made this exact recipe, but I've made things very similar.
Thanks for sharing! I agree, we use this one for minor skin wounds, nothing deep.
Awesome I didn’t know how to incorporate herbs like that, thx!.
Well, I’m not doing GAPS, but you taught me about that, now I’m 70% raw and 30% clean keto to give me energy for IF healing, but I still keep coming back to you for more education.
Thank you for my beginning and for now (and later). ❤️🇮🇱
Good for you! Thank you so much!
Made it with calendula, roses and lavender and just love it
That looks amazing! Another one to add to my list to make!
Thanks! Let me know if you try it :)
Thank you so much for your amazing work :) All the best for you & your family :)
Thank you so much!
Thank you ma'am for this recipe. I love your channel and have started making my own whipped tallow balm and I'm looking to infuse some lemon verbena in it. You are awesome! God Bless
Thank you!
Thanks for the recipe
You're welcome!
Thank you for sharing! I'm going to buy one of your salves :)
You’re very welcome! Thank you so much! 😊💕
Love it
Hi marissa! Your wisdom is so beautiful!!! What would your opinion be on infusing elderberry pomace (leftovers after pressing fresh berries) into tallow for a balm?
York River Cannabis!!! They sell incredible naturally grown and processed CBD hemp flower.
Thank you so much Marisa for all of your wonderful videos and recipes! I live in the Dominican Republic and have been searching for recipes and ways to make all of our own personal care products since it is very hard to source non toxic products here. I am so happy I came across your channel! Can't wait to make all of the things!
Thank you so much!!
Can you do an update on making tallow beauty products?
❤❤❤❤❤❤gracias
You are a wealth of knowledge thank you, what can I use for under eye dark circles.
Thanks! There are different things that can be used topically for under eye circles, such as creams or gels containing caffeine, and that would be a great video topic! I will add that to my list. In the meantime, I know that not getting enough sleep and toxicity (poor gut health) can definitely contribute to dark under eye circles, so you might think about those things also.
This looks great, I am wondering have you ever added honey to a salve? If I just add a little bit if it won't be sticky. Any thoughts would be great.
Love this! where do you get your herbs?
Question; wouldn’t boiling it for so long kill all the good properties from the herbs?
Can you infuse the herbs with tallow at the same time while it is rendering with water?
@bumblebeeapothecary I want to try with calendula only. What measurements should I do for the one herb only? Thank you I appreciate your wisdom and guidance!
Would we be able to do a large scale inside of a slow cooker? Or would it ruin the properties of the herbs
Hi Can you make the comfrey powder and just add it to tallow? if so how much powder would you put in.
Can I use fresh herbs instead?
Hi, Is it fine to Use comfrey tea? It's hard to find comfrey
Leaves here in my country.
Awesome video! I'm excited to make this. One question - do you think you could infuse the tallow with the herbs in a crockpot of water on warm? or should it be low? Thanks for this!!!
Thank you! Yes you can use a crockpot. I do the warm setting, so it's not too hot. :)
Where do I find the exact measurements?
Awesome can u use essential oils as well?
Yes you can! Lavender would be a wonderful addition, since it helps with wound healing and avoiding infections 😊
Love the recipe!
I am wondering about the aluminium jar and its safety for use? Does it react with the tallow and goes into the product?
Not that I know of
That's a great question.
Instapot or crock pot method?
do you have anything for cold sores? I struggle with them so bad.
Great question! Those are awful :( The herbs in this salve would help. Also, raw honey is helpful.
Is there a reason you don't close the jar when you infuse the herbs in the water? Just curious! :)
Hello :) The herbs are actually being infused in oil, so there isn't any evaporation that would happen. You could put a lid on if you want, but it isn't necessary. The main reason I don't is because my stirring stick is too long for a lid :)
Are you using “suet” fat....or “suet/beef” combo fat?! As I’m researching the two....I have found that many are interchanging the two as being “suet organ fat”. If you are familiar with the difference of the two. Could you do a video to compare the texture, size of pieces, smell and nutrient value as you did with oils.
Thx p
I am very familiar with the difference, yes! I choose suet whenever I can over trim fat. I might talk about it some in this video: czcams.com/video/EH5TJgCyJug/video.html
The link to the 100% grass fed beef tallow isn't working.
How do you go about cleaning up after making your products? I’m really interested in making some of your recipes but I can’t work out to clean the fat off everything without using chemicals. Maybe a video 🤔
That's a great video idea, thanks! Beeswax is the hardest thing to wash. I use very hot water and soap and scrub it with a dishcloth, and that works. :)
Thank you 😊
A hot water solution of good ol' fashioned washing soda will degrease anything naturally!
@@DSmith-ix1xf I’ve recently discovered washing soda and it’s brilliant, it now goes in all my dish water 👍
I cook with lard and I just use hot water most of the time.
The recipe calls for tallow balm, is that just rendered tallow? Or do I need to make a balm for this ?
If you have rendered tallow that is softer, you can use straight tallow. If it's pretty hard, you'll want to add some liquid oil to make balm. Here is how to make balm: bumblebeeapothecary.com/how-to-make-tallow-balm/ Hope that helps!
@@BumblebeeApothecary thank you :)
Wouldnt the olive oil in the balm go rancid due to the heat?
Hello there !
Is there a trusty tallow I can purchase on Amazon
Here you go! amzn.to/3t3cNHj
Can this be whipped with bees wax?
Yes it can! That's a great thing to do :)
@@BumblebeeApothecary Thank you💕💕💕
I love your videos! I have found that the Magic Butter machine is absolutely amazing for infusing my oils with herbs. Perhaps you may find it very useful as well.
Thank you!
I love your channel! Would love to work together as things grow and scale! 🙏🙌🌲🍯🐮💫
