- This Terraria weapon deserves more attention... The Stake Launcher. In this video, I take a look at this late hardmode ranged weapon which can be obtained from Mourning Woods during Pumpkin Moon event. It deals insane damage and can even defeat end game bosses.

"steak launcher" 😂
Did Sockrteez use a Truffle Worm to summon you here?
@@DracoPlaysYT yep he used one thats why duke fishron is here
You fishing attention
Ayyy it’s the boss that gives me the second most trouble In terraria (without a shield of Cthulhu)
Steak luncher
it's so weird how stakes do more damage to vampires but silver bullets don't do more damage to werewolves
The silver thing is a myth, the stake thing is true
@@infiniteplanes5775 where is that stated
@@infiniteplanes5775 they're both myths as vampires and werewolves aren't real
@@infiniteplanes5775 You can try to drive a silver stake into a vampire's chest and they'll just laugh. Same thing for wooden bullets shot out of Mr. Fantastic's gun.
@@MechaLeo i dont get the joke sorry
Only OG's know why I played the frost moon music during a Pumpkin moon lmao 🤦♂
Lol idk why though
I’ve been here since i think not 100 percent sure but like something and 70
lol
not only did you play frost moon music during a pumpkin moon, you also said the Stake Launcher can be obtained during a Frost Moon in the video description.
@@jnst8295 this is a reupload, the original had him saying frost moon instead of pumpkin moon the whole time
I love how Sockrteez is reviving all the dead, underatted, unused terraria weapons as i never really tried some of these weapons. I appreciate your videos! Keep it up! :DD
Back when I was big into the pvp game, in 1.2.4, the stake launcher was a must-have in any ranger loadout, especially alongside Tsunami with Chlorophyte Arrows.
This weapon is one of my favorites (In that stage of the game.) I think why people dont care for it is because you have to use steaks instead of arrows.
For sure, if the steak launcher worked the same as bees knees or the hellwing bow people would farm for it their every ranger playthrough
ngl, i never thought to use it because I didnt know you could buy the stakes, I was always under the assumption that you needed to keep farming the boss to get it
@@summergamer7650 same for all the others like nail gun and stynger
I was always put off by it way back in the early days of 1.3 because of the fact that I was never aware of the witch doctor/arms dealer selling its ammo, and I hated grinding for things (I usually got it anyway however because my brothers and I always loved the pumpkin moon back then)
I didn't use it because i thought it was junk and i was a summoner, im playing ranger and this thing goes hard specially with Shroomite armor.
I personally think that the Stake Launcher is a staple of a ranged playthrough, and I wasn't even aware of the speed boost.
Glad you are mentioning such a gem. This weapon has been one of my favourite ranged weapons ever since it was introduced in 1.2.1.
A few years back I'd find myself trying to make builds that fit a character from other types of media, like the cosplay-builds from the Terraria wiki(which I am inexplicably unable to find at this point, so it's probably been deprecated). Terraria is such a content-packed game that you're bound to be able to recreate many types of builds that match a lot of game characters, both functionally and visually! In my case, I could use the Stake Launcher as a stand-in for a typical modern crossbow, and with that recreate the look of Ada Wong from Resident Evil 6! Or in another case, equip the flying carpet mount, use a variety of non-destructive-looking magic weapons, adjust the looks of my character accordingly to get white-mage Shirma from Chocobo Racing! Oh the fun that can be had :)
To bad such a novelty isn't always viable for game-progression. Certainly couldn't use the Keybrand against the Moon Lord for instance!
For anyone interested, I just found that the wiki page about cosplay builds wasn't gone, but simply merged into the "Guide:Ideas" page under the Cosplay header, showing miscellanious things you could do in the game when bored! I wish it could be expanded upon with more examples, but I guess interest would only go so far :)
I used this weapon in literally ALL my ranger playthroughs and i thought it was really underrated, but this is probably the reason it hasn't been nerfed yet 😂
Gonna equip this right now. This looks awesome. I also with you would show off how other weapons would do in endgame combat scenarios.
I think that the Stake Launcher is fairly good, but I also think the Pulse Bow is fairly equal to it, so long as at least Luminite Arrows are used.
Both can pierce loads of enemies, can deal similar damage, and are considered crowd control type weapons. The only differences would be the unique ability of the Pulse Bow's fixed bounce, its even harsher damage reduction from piercing enemies and from bouncing, the Stake Launcher's slightly higher crit rate, and the Pulse Bow's "higher" velocity (which is false, with it in actuality being faintly slower than the Stake Launcher.)
In most cases, I think the Stake Launcher would beat out this kind of setup, but there are still plenty of other methods of damaging opponents, such as using different bows and Ichor Arrows, which the Pulse Bow simply cannot due to its uniquely forced bouncing projectile.
While the bounce of the Pulse Bow is nice in concept, if you had the choice between slightly better stats or said ability, you shouldn't go with it. While it can be forgiving at times where you miss your shot, even by a small margin, it isn't something that will always come into play. It requires a surface to bounce off of, so if you're fighting anything airborne, you might as well switch weapons at that point. The projectile itself is also barely slower, which doesn't really mean all that much, but what does mean a lot is that the fire rate of the Stake Launcher actually beats the Pulse Bow by almost two times, effectively matching the DPS of the Pulse Bow's ideal situation of perfectly bounced arrows. Even if the combo of Pulse Bow and Venom Arrows are considered, which would, in theory, slightly beat out the Stake Launcher's 100 DMG total with 104 DMG, its important to note that again, the charged arrows do not carry over the specific arrow's special ability, which causes it to effectively lose damage in comparison. While the bow itself has higher damage than most bows, the removal of the arrow's effects makes the more effective arrows irrelevant, thus reducing the damage again, and likely to a greater effect than the bow's damage buff. While the Stake Launcher doesn't have any special abilities either, that doesn't excuse the better stats it has, with almost double fire rate, slightly faster projectile velocity, better piercing, and slightly raised crit rate, in comparison to the Pulse Bow, which requires a very specific setup of having a good bounce shot to even match against the DPS of the Stake Launcher's casual best.
In true Death Battle fashion, I shall end this with a Boomstick-like pun.
A stake launched through the heart of this bow, leaving it with no pulse.
The Stake Launcher beats the Pulse Bow.
0:41 love the frost moon music with the pumpkin moon
Bro the quality and effort that goes into these videos is insane
I’ve been doing a ranger run and have used all of the underrated ranger weapons, they all have been the best
Thanks for highlighting this weapon. One of my go-to weapons everytime I play as Ranger
The frost staff and the venom staff are both underused mage weapons that carried me throughout my mage playthroughs.
Finally, some recognition for stake launcher, I always try to get it with the witch broom in pumkin moon, the weapon is indeed good pre cultist to moonlord.
Love your videos i just subscribed too! Wish your videos were longer bro.
Brilliant! Gonna check this out!!
Glad to see it get some recognition, it's been my favorite ranger weapon since 1.2
Anyone gonna comment on the 4 Daedalus drops from 5 mimics?
this is my favourite terraria channel at the momeny! its informative and interesting :D
I will use this in my next ranger playtrough, thank you
In Russian we have a special word for this weapon and it doesn’t sound weird. I’d even say it sounds cool and maybe brutal.
“Kolomyot”
And “kol” as the ammo
Nice
You had me at magic quiver and archery potion compatibility
2:20 my boy got 4 daedalus stormbows from 4 hallowed mimics
This dude smashes content i cant stop watching him rn
This weapon carried me through the for the worthy master mode late game. The fact that it works with the sniper scope and magic quiver was super convenient, and the weapon itself is perfect for dealing damage at long range which is the only viable place to be on said difficulty.
I'd argue the steak launcher sounds very interesting by name. Steaks are huge wooden spikes so high damage and piercing immediately come to mind, both are very fun.
You should try the scourge of corruptor; I think it is a great weapon because the eaters home in on targets
Great stuff. Absolutely mint vid
This was in my endgame back in 1.2, it was alot slower than your video but peirced infinity so the best in-game for CC (And destroyer 👍). I think it's 1 of the few pumpkin moon weapons that is an upgrade at the point you get it
Love your channel! :D
Never used it before, might give it a try
You should do a video on the snow man cannon its a very good weapon.
legit thought it shot steaks
I love the stake launcher. I first used it on a coop master mode world and it absolutely shredded
Stake Launcher is so good and incredibly underrated! I normally don't get it in my ranger runs however due to the fact I would already have the Tsunami.
The stake launcher carried me through my post-golem events and fights in my most recent Expert play through.
I've never used this, but it does look interesting. Especially since it counts for arrow bonuses. I might use this on my next playthrough.
This video is just perfect since I'm doing a ranger class in the dst seed
Wait, didn't you already do a vid on this?
Yeah about 50 minutes ago but had to re-upload lol
Sorry, I had thought that it was in one of your vids like a month or two ago lol
(And btw, how long does it take to put your vids on CZcams? It takes me like 10-20 minutes to upload my ~20 minute vids)
That's what i been telling my friends!
The piercing CC is just BANANAS OP!!!
We were doing FtW old ones sure the big mob needs higher dps but at least i was doing the ballistic turrets job ._.
Just got this thing on my current expert ranger playthrough, I used to trash this thing on Melee but damn its so powerful, ammo is cheaper than nails for the nailgun but the nailgun is great too, thanks sockrteez for bringing these guns to my attention as my build was lacking that extra... Ooomph.
Would be amazing to see what vortex armor would do to my dps lol
I want to cram as much dps as possible before I cant add anymore, I wanna become a walking damage sprinkler😂
Probably my favorite weapon in Terraria it just has everything you need
Man, i've only recently learned of this weapon's existence. I was playing with a friend as an archer and browsing the wiki looking for something better than Chrolophyte Shotbow. Oh boy was i surprised when i got to use this.
I used this one in my first playthrough so it has always had a special place in my heart.
this with the nail gun are probably the most underated weapons
I'll certainly try it in my next play through, but honestly it feels like just another weapon that suffers from Plantera, Golem, and the Cultist all being within an hour of each other like most every Ectoplasm Event drop.
Steak launcher used to be my favourite weapon alongside the razor pine back in 1.2
I’ve always loved the vampire hunter aesthetic. So whenever I do a ranger playthrough, i always get my hands on one.
yesss ty for doing this weapon
Is there any video to this farm, or do i have to rely on the short clip that there is in this video?
Repeaters in general need a lot more love. There are three timoes more bows than repeaters; we could definitely do with at least a couple more and definitely a true post-cultist option among them.
fun fact: you can use sniper scope's right click ability on a stake launcher
Ahhh yes, the weapon that almost solo-carried me through master mode Old Ones Army. Such a good weapon for many scenarios and incredible crowd control thanks to the pierce.
Wow. This and the nail gun were my go to post-plantera weapons.
Nice video man, your incredibly underrated
From this video I was able to beat duke fishron on ranger master mode, thanks bro
usually always sold these things, ill be sure to give them a shot next time
Did you do an flying knives version? Flying knives is underrated
Did the use time editor mod come out for 1.4? I ask because of the ending part
Huh. Well if you can buy ammo that fixes like the main issue with it, I’ll have to try this out!
Didn’t even know they buffed this weapon. Will have to give it another chance
This guys makes all the videos I dream of
*Dreams of home address*
what gear were you using at 2:05 to optimize damage?
I agree, I used this weapon in a playthrough and I used if for the rest of the game
Can you do a video on your event farm?
Which mod are you using at the end of the video? I would really like to know
You should look at the charged blaster cannon, it's really strong.
I remember playing ranged with my friend and doing the pumpkin moon because he wanted the zenith and I got this weapon.
It carried me til moonlord
What is the texture pack called that makes your light cooler? I see it everywhere but I can't find it.
I always neglected this weapon in my playthroughs because at that point I have either A LOT of Clorophite or straight up infinite regular bullets/arrows and they always felt way less obnoxious to deal with than ammo that drops from an event, I had no idea you could also buy stakes from those two NPCs, I'll definitely try it out next time I have the chance tho the lack of homing doesn't sound too exciting given the alternatives
the lack of homing improves your precision
I’m doing a new 1.4 play through with my friends def gotta try this
Dang, I saw this thing and I thought it was decent when I got it, but I wasn't using the right gear so I didnt know it was this good. Also, imagine if there was also special stakes/ammo like other ranged weapons
Fun fact .. it's receives buff from both gun and arrow buffs... I mean you can use sniper scope and also magic quiver with so many buffs the dmg becomes crazy
i freaking love this weapon, no matter what class i use this is a go to "get away" for me
I tried to use it at one point, but I always thought the ammo was such a pain to get, did not realise you could purchase the stakes while the weapon is in the inv
What mod did you use at the end of the video?
The stake launcher can also use the rifle scope and its upgrades
YOU ARE THE BEST TERRARIOA TUBER YOU DO MOST EASY TO FOLLOW I GOT TO HARDMODE IN ONE DÄY BECAUSE OF YOU THANKS
Finally someone puts a recognition on this weapon, this weapon literally shreds bosses if you use it correctly. it's really op.
Its one of the weapons i got the most use out of in the latter half of my last playthrough. Barely anything even compares, much less surpasses its cleanup ability
I think the snowman cannon is pretty underrated
This reminds me of the Nail Gun from the Solar Eclipse event, but way better.
nail gun is killer and just as good for when it's available in the game, makes golem so cheesable.
@@maxmunzert9725 yeah, I got the nail gun once. I thought it only had 100 ammo, since the thing that dropped it only dropped 100 nails with it, so I used it for a few minutes and then sold it... never really played the Pumpkin Moon or Frost Moon though...
The main reason I didn't use the steak launcher was because I thought you can only get more ammo from the pumpkin moon, but if you can just buy more, I might consider using it for my next ranger playthrough.
They can be purchased from the Arms Dealer or the Witch Doctor for 15 copper each when the player has the Stake Launcher in their inventory.
A drop from the Pumpkin Moon
*Proceeds to play the Frost Moon Music
I use the stake launcher, with my hybrid summoner.
Weapons:
Stake Launcher, Terraprisma.
Armor:
Shroomite Headgear, Red Riding Set.
Accessories:
Summons; Pygmy Necklace, Necromantic Scroll, Papyrus Scarab.
Range; Sniper Scope.
Damage; Avenger Emblem, Destroyer Emblem, Celestial Shell.
Works out pretty well. Moon Lord in master mode wasn't too hard with this setup.
One of the best ranger weapons. I don't typically use bows at all as a ranger but I always make an exception for this beast.
You can use the sniper scope with this, i think thats unique as I don't think repeaters can use the sniper scope
Yeah, the stake launcher insane, but gets overshined by the other pumpkin moon drops.
I have one on my magic character as backup for faster targets, and because the random solar eclipses can piss off during my ordeals with the pillers!
Personally I love it but there’s also just so much competition at that point for ranged weapons, there’s the sniper rifle, tactical shotgun, nail gun, candy corn rifle, chain gun, snowman cannon, stynger, tsunami, so it’s hard to really choose it among so many great options. Also it’s a little annoying that it has unique ammo since so many of those weapons do as well, so it can clog up the inventory a bit. I’m still a big fan though.
Vampire:that’s a lot of damage!!
"Let's show you the best way to obtain it."
*pumpkin moon starts*
*frost moon music plays*
Can we recognize that homie got 4 stormbows from 4 hallowed mimics
Tsunami with holy arrows is still goated for crowd control
Yeah i used it in my master mode world a couple of times it's really good o was able to get it like 600 damage crit and my load out was focused on guns and not bows and holy crap is it fast it shreds
the stake launcher is what got me through almost all bosses golem - moonlord
As someone that actually wanted to use the stake launcher years ago, I thought the only way to get the ammo was from the pumpkin event. So I never did use it. Now I feel saddened that I could have bought the stakes from the npcs.
