“NFL Top Ten Fastest players of all time”
Number Ten- “*Chris Johnson*”
Me: “Excuse me?”
I said the same thing. Except he doesn't belong on the list and neither do 6 others on the list.
That means everyone under Chris should be quicker than 4.24!! This list is bogus
@@elomon3473 You'd be right if the 40 measured how fast these guys run, but it doesn't. The 40 measures quickness and partial acceleration because the really fast guys do not reach top speed til about 50m out. They are still accelerating at the 40yd mark. So the 40 cannot possible determine who is fastest when they aren't even running their fastest now can it? You need a longer distance to where they can get to full speed and maintain it for some time. The 100m dash is the only race that includes all the aspects of total speed. It has start/quickness, acceleration, top speed, and speed endurance (which slows deceleration after top speed is reached).
That said, CJ2K's best 100m is 10.66. That 10.66 ranks him 71st all time in NFL history.
@@sydboski
It's about football speed. The 40 is ABSOLUTELY a relevant metric on grass / turf.
Line of scrimmage at the 30. The fastest guy to 40 yards likely *doesn't get walked down* the rest of the way to the end zone and that's what matters!
Here's the measure of speed in the league in my book . . . if a guy got an ounce of daylight on you . . . by shaking you left or right . . . *could he be caught* ?
I'm old enough to remember OJ Simpson playing. In OJ got a step on you, the gap just got wider . . . he literally looked like he was walking away from people who were standing still.
I saw the same with Michael Vick decades later. And Deion . . . if he found a seam, it WAS A WRAP.
Chris Johnson would have been a beast with a longer career. You need to respect that 4.24.
@@gmnewbold1416
1. I never said the 40 wasn't a relevant metric. I said the 40 doesn't measure how fast these guys run. And it doesn't.
2. Show me where it states "football speed". Also tell me how they measure "football speed" in order to compare players not on the same field or from different eras.
3. I saw OJ play also. Yes he was fast but he didn't have Henry Carr, Deion Sanders, Darrell Green, or Terrence Newman chasing him either. There are a lot of player that once they got a step the haven't been caught. Cliff Branch, Mel Gray, Bob Hayes, Jacoby Ford, Lam Jones, Trindon Holliday, Curtis Dickey, Ron Brown just to name a few. There are plenty more. But those are highlights on film. They give you an opinion on how fast these guys are. Unfortunately speed is not an opinion. It is measurable and provable.
4. All of the REAL top 10 fastest players should have a track back ground. No track background? There is no way they should make the list. You cannot just walk on to a track with no sprint training and run world class times. It is physically impossible. It takes years of training to get to world class status. If you don't have world class speed you should not be on the list because you are not faster than a world class sprinter.
Hayes ran 10:06 in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic final from chewed up lane 1 on a cinder track. He'd run 9.9 in the semis. He clocked the anchor leg in the men's 4x100 TOKYO Olympics in 8.6 seconds, the fastest leg ever run including Usain Bolt. Hayes is #1.
Hines ran 10.03 on cinders in 1964 during the Night of Speed. He ran 9.95 at the 1968 Olympics. The relay legs are not official and were hand timed back in the 1960's.
Bob Hayes was not called, "Bullet Bob" for nothing. He could "prove" that he was the fastest. Look at films of the Olympics sprints.
Bob Hays is the fastest you right
@@johnbarron2269 100%. I saw him play several times as a kid. He was so much faster than everyone on the field it was ridiculous. He ran a a 10.06 100 meters for Olympic gold on a chewed up cinder track. That's well under 10 seconds on today's rubberized tracks. Green was blazing fast, but you can't put him in the same sentence as Bullet Bob.
@@sydboski Bob Hayes always slowed down at the end of the race because he was so far ahead. He had to come from behind in the 4 x 100 so he used all his speed at that time. Bob Hayes never lost a race.
I love Vick's run where he goes around two Vikings, then goes by two others who run into each other trying to tackle him. Hilarious.
When the eagles were at Leigh I seen Vick beat Jackson and Mccoy. and he was up there in age I know Jackson was 4.3 but still has the most over 50 yard tfs and said he ran it bad that team had speed to Maclin was hurt and still did it that's the problem now Daryll Green new he was starter and every time challenged he won like last year shut deoin up 60 yes old 4 6
Yes he made them look like fools
It’s just too bad he was a POS
And while Taysom Hill does not have the moves of Vick, he is faster.
Seriously, those two guys dropped like potato sacks. Wonder if they both had concussions?
D Green is a decent man. Great sportsman. A positive impact for his team and sports for a long time.

Darrell Green number #1,, NO!
Bo Jackson's 91-yd run where he went so fast he ran through the tunnel before completely stopping was superhuman
I grew up going KC Royals games in 80s. I'd make my Dad get right field seats. Just for Bo Jackson.
We had season tix behind 3rd base. I'll NEVER forget him throwing this guy out at 3rd base fr Right Field off his back foot. Ball never touched ground. Glove 2 Glove!!!!!! Guy was out trying stretch a triple out of a 2bager. Whole Stadium was in such awe.
What was super human about it?
@@sydboski either you haven't seen it or you don't know anything about athleticism. The answer is 2 parts, the speed made it superhuman! It's one of the fastest runs in football history!! 2nd, HOF players where amazed & in disbelief of the speed! It takes a superhuman to impress the greatest athletes on earth, which Bo did on this play & his entire career!!
@@bryanelam7431 The speed made it superhuman? It's one of the fastest runs in football history? How fast was he running? How do you know how fast it was compared to Ron Brown out running Darrell Green on a kick off, one of Cliff Branch's long receptions, Trindon Holliday's kick returns, Bob Hayes' receptions or returns, or Tyreek Hill's receptions or returns? All of them were faster than Bo. so please explain that.
@@sydboski I don't think I can because it's impossible to explain things to people that aren't capable of comprehending what they read, which you are! Did I say the fastest, nope, I said one of the fastest & that means more than one!! He isn't the only person to play in the NFL that had world class speed. I don't know exactly how fast that run is & it wasn't times, just like all the plays you mentioned weren't timed either! All that's needed to know that it's crazy fast is to watch it & listen to HOF players that were in the game talk about it!!!
I love how many of these guys are from the old Raiders, it really shows the emphasis Al Davis put on speed.
Back when they were good
P R E A C H. My Brother
Speed n stick um
Al Davis loved speedsters. His Raider teams also had James Jett, Rocket Ismail,
Alexander Wright, Terry McDaniel, James Trapp, and Sam Graddy.
Graddy finished 2nd in 100m at the 84’ Olympics behind Carl Lewis, and also won gold in the 4x100 with Carl & Ron Brown. Jett was part of a 4x100 team that won at the Olympics in 92’ and Trapp was an alternate.
Wright won a couple of those “NFL’s fastest man” competitions.
@@maniacmasturbator2411I I was thinking that when I saw this post. These are KNOWN fast guys, there's been some with the Raiders who could eek out. 4.1s
Loved Darrell Green “don’t let this bald spot fool you guys” trash talking before the game lol
Going to have to redo this list and add Tyreek Hill somewhere. The man jogs a go route and still burns the secondary.
Hill's 100m time 10.19 ranks him 20th in NFL history.
@@sydboski Except for the fact that he ran that 10.19 when he was still in high school. He's much faster now. Try again.
@@sydboski And by the way, even back in high school, Tyreek's 200m time was only 0.36 seconds behind Usain Bolt's Rio Olympics time. And Tyreek's high school 100m time is only 0.01 second behind Bob Hayes' 100m that he ran in his rookie NFL season. So there's that.
@@Michael_Wehrley No, he isn't faster now. He hasn't run track since being a college sophomore. So that means he is not sprint training anymore. Do you know what happens when you stop training for something? You lose that edge. You definitely don't get better. Guaranteed that Hill, right now, cannot run 10.19 100m, because he is playing football and not training to sprint.
@@sydboski Athletes don't peak in their teens, they peak in their mid 20's. I don't care if he doesn't routinely practice full on sprinting, he's not going to be slower than his high school days, because he's a hard training athlete nonetheless in a position that requires endurance and great speed up to the length of the entire field if need be. He's not a lineman, for God's sake, he's a #1 wide receiver.
Darrell Green remained constantly fast throughout his career was still running a 4.2 or 4.3 something 40 time absolutely insane.
Ya he literally never lost a step.

DEVIN HESTER HAD A 100 SPEED IN MADDEN. It was the only attribute in the game that couldn't be edited because they knew 99 would be a FAT LIE.
Christopher Hill Madden had to make him that fast otherwise his character would not be good. Hester's best 100m was 10.62. The slowest 100m time for the REAL NFL top 10 fastest of all time is #10 Willie Gault who ran a 10.10. Biiiig difference! You can't judge real life speed from a video game.
sydboski tell em
I'm trying to. But these video game junkies think because they are fast in the game that they are fast in real life.
Well I assume this is talking both real life speed and game speed, two big differences. Go watch Devin Hester highlight video, and tell me that isn't one of the fastest actual game speed players ever.
@@XBillyMexicoX Watching highlights only proves how fast someone is compared to the players on the field at that time. You cannot compare them to players who are from different eras, to say someone is faster or not. On field speed is not accurately measurable. But if you want to look at highlights look at Hester's opening kickoff return in the Superbowl. You will see #43 Colt's safety Matt Giordano run Hester down from behind. Hester never had world class speed. But there have been 25+ world class sprinters that have played in the NFL. All of them were faster than Hester on and off the field.
The ol “he’s only got one gear” quote. Go find a manual transmission, put it in 5th, take off from a dead stop, and count how long it takes to get to 60 😂
Deion was the fastest I’ve watched. They asked him one time, “hey Primetime, what’s your 40 time?” Deion replies: depends on how fast the opponent is running.. if he’s running a 4.4, I’m running a 4.3. If he’s running a 4.3, I’m running a 4.2. If he’s running a 4.2... well you get the pattern. 😂😂
So you didn't watch Darrell Green?
Deion was fast but never ran in the fastest man contest because he couldn't let that perception leave folk minds. He was fast but wasn't the fastest as John Madden would say sometimes.
@@TB-tp2dh He did run in the Superstars competition and was beaten by Flipper Anderson in the 100yd dash.
@@sydboski I can't say about the Superstars but the NFL Fastest man contest Deion never ran it. In college Darrell Green loss to Carl Lewis. Had Green committed fully to track, probably could've beaten him.

Thanks. I just do my homework before I post. You seem to have a plethora of track knowledge also.
One of the best examples of how fast Cliff Branch was is watching him in SBXVIII when Marcus Allen had his great run for a TD. Allen is being chased by some Redskin, and out of nowhere Branch catches them both like they're in slow motion, and provides some interference (legal) on the Redskin to slow him down and keep from possibly catching Allen. (Wouldn't have caught Allen imo, but still, possible.) But just the sheer speed of Branch, who even looked like he was cruising up to them, like he was only in 3rd gear and not even in 4th or 5th gear, was crazy fast.

Its likely with increased stretching, muscle technology, nutrition etc. that athletes back then didn't supplement their natural speed thus today's guys have better .40 times. But if Morgan had played today he'd be a first ballot HOF. Most of that 19+ ypc was air yards too, and not yac inflated
Ironic you should mention Stanley Morgan, his son plays for the Bengals...who had an awesome WR named Issac Curtis who, along with Stanley Morgan should be in the HOF and Curtis should be on this list ! For one, fast in pads is not the same as fast at the combine. Two, you only get what 3 chances to run the 40 at the combine? Not everyone is going to clock their fastest speed. most don't even care to. Three, some of the players didn't even have measured 40 times in their day. Four, the forty is really for acceleration not speed, most people have to run a little longer to actually reach their top speed. I could go on but I think you get the point.
This is about speed only I would say. Cause how many of these guys are legends? Or hall of famers? Not many or any.
Dude Bo ran his 40 in 4.13 and was 30lbs heavier then Chris Johnson. Yall should be asking yourself how the hell is Bo @ #5!?
For people say why is Hayes #2 and Green #1? Because its because Green played for so long and stayed fast for so long... just like Bo Jackson is only #5 because he only played 4 seasons due to injury... same reason why Chris Johnson is only #10
Jim Hines won the Gold Medal in 1968 Olympics in Mexico and had a faster time than Bob Hayes, but hes not on the list because he played 3 years in the NFL as a wide receiver and made a total of 2 receptions (cuz he was barely on the field)...

I’m surprised they didn’t have Ron Brown on here. He was blazing fast, and part of the 84’ USA 4 x 100 team (with Carl Lewis) that won gold in Los Angeles. Renaldo Nehemiah was one of the fastest guys to ever play in the NFL, but I don’t think they wanted to feature him since he had a fairly short and underwhelming career in the league. His most memorable play was getting destroyed by Kenny Johnson.
Al Davis liked having speedsters on his team. In addition to Gault, Bo & Branch being on the list, the Raiders also had guys like James Jett, Rocket Ismail, Alexander Wright, and Sam Graddy.
Graddy got silver in the 100m in 84’ behind Carl Lewis and also was part of the 4x100 team with Lewis & Ron Brown.
Never heard of Cliff Branch until now but you better believe I'm pulling his highlights when this video is over lol
Hope you pulled those highlights. Branch was awesome.
Cliff Branch never had to check his rear view mirror. Looked ALOT faster than Gault and a few others on this list.
Looks can be deceiving. Branch is my favorite receiver of all time. Branch ran a hand timed 10.00 100m. Which converts to 10.24 fully automatic timing. 10.24 would actually rank him 4th on this list if it went by actual measured speed. Behind only Hayes 10.06, Green 10.08, and Gault 10.10. But there are players who have run faster than all of these guys that are not even on the list.
I never cared for the Falcons, but when Vick broke through in '02 I was rooting hard for him. He was so much fun to watch.
If he never did that stuff, he could have been hall of fame by now. I doubt he would still be playing now but Brady played over 20 years so maybe Vick could’ve stayed healthy and ran a 4.3 at 43
Darrell Green would not have caught Bob Hayes.
To me personally- *MICHAEL VICK* his change of direction, acceleration, etc was *INSANE*
Still to this day...
The Fastest QB In NFL History
Tyreek Hill casually jogs the field and no one can catch him
Zach Javaherian bruh I was just thinking that lmao I had to come bacc to this video
I know
If this was re-done today, you'd have to have all of the Legion of Zoom in the top 10, with Hill at No.1... In my opinion
ya itz nuts
Damn right. Hardman is jogging right along with him too.
Bo could have been the goat
Andrew glad im not the only one that thinks that,he was real good but he had a short career becasue of that injury
[MOTB] Rhino Instead we have Barry. And I'm fine with that, even as a Packers fan, that man could not be tackled in a phone booth. Now Bo would just break the phone booth and carry it on him while out running everyone else.
He has the fastest 40 ever.
how you ask a grown man in the locker room for a tootsie roll😂😂😂😂😂😂
Good thing I watched all the way through. I was getting madder and madder at not seeing Darryl Green on this list … but then … justice was served!
Thank you!
All I'm going to say is that Bo Jackson ran a 4.12 and they put him at number 5
If the run was hand-timed you can add between 0.22 and 0.26 seconds depending on if it was an experienced or novice coach.
Anthony Funches That time wasn't official
Same
Anthony Funches In that game vs Seattle Brian Bosworth was chasing Bo Jackson one question WHY??????
Matthew Littlejohn Darrell Green was said to have ran a 4.08!!!!!!!
Did y’all catch that dude talking about Cliff Branch winning the 100 meter yard dash 😂
I can’t wait to see this list get updates each decade
I can't wait till they come up with some actual parameters and metrics to let us know how they rank the players.
Great video, well compiled 🏈
Tyreek hill
Tyreek Hill what?
@@sydboski #1
@@RAID3R63 I can name 19 players who have run faster than Hill. So how could he be #1?
John ross is faster
@@keyanrusso9265 Sorry, but no. Ross is not faster than Hill. You must be thinking about the lame 40 yard dash which does not measure how fast these guys run. it only measures quickness and partial acceleration because the really fast runners don't reach top speed till about 50m out. So the 40 cannot possibly determine how fast they run if they are not running their fastest. The 100m dash is the true test of speed. That said, Ross' best 100m is 10.66 and Hill's best is 10.19. It's not even close. Hill destroys Ross.
I feel like devin hester could have replaced galloway on the list
Tyler G I feel like those are compliments to his speed, idk I could just be saying that because on all when the madden games always gave him a 99 speed with the little shoe as th icon
Biblical Knives Joey Galloway clocked a 4.16 in the 40. They just don't tell you that in the video.
Derrick Curtis damn but Galloway too underrated he's an all time great...
absolutely not, galloway is top 5. Darrell Green, Deion Sanders, Joey Galloway, Bo Jackson and Bob Hayes and then the rest of the 4.25+ guys, Vick, Moss Randy and Santana, Tyreek Hill, CJ2K, Willie Gault, Ron Brown
Maybe not Galloway but definitely dog fightin Mike Vick
Al Bundy was pretty fast also. A real legend out at Polk high.
Geez, Al wasn't even faster than Gump. Lol.
Daryl Green ‘s 100 meter time was 10.08. Bullet Bob Hayes time in the 100 was 9.9. So the list is wrong.
Hayes time was 10.06.
Some guys arenot even on the list.
1. Jim Hines 9.95
2. Trindon Holliday 10.00
3. Jeffrey Demps 10.01
Jacoby Ford 10.01
5. Bob Hayes 10.06
Ron Brown 10.06
7. Alvis Whitted 10.07
8. Darrell Green 10.08
9. Sam Graddy 10.09
10. Willie Gault. 10.10
There were a lot of cakes destroyed in this video
'Murica wastes food,
so....
There were a lot of cakes destroyed in the making of the Hogs
One thing I'm going to say that most people definitely don't know is that at least up through Super Bowl 21 he had the highest the longest punt return in Super Bowl history and it was like 19 yards
i could watch these all day.
Willie Mays Hayes “I play like Mays, and I run like Hayes”… Classic…!
17:40 My favorite character from Tecmo Super Bowl for obvious reasons. 23:59 Right. I wonder why they didn't do that. lol
Cliff Branch's 99 yarder at 35 years old - he also pulled his hamstring on that play and still outran everybody.
ya in 1983 he was said he ran just under 4.3
I liked the old Seahawks uniforms I wish they could bring those back once in a while
Good list, but how does Devin Hester not make this list?
1. Because this list is BS
2. Because Hester is not in the top 30 fastest players by actual measured speed.
RIP Cliff branch
I just realized I was on 1.25 speed
“-HUT!” “-HUT!” “-HUT!” 😂
Am I the only one that heard this man Don Banks say the “100 meter, YARD dash”? 😂😆🤦🏾♂️ @10:11
No you are not. And Branch did not win the NCAA champs either.
Did he say randy moss was 65 years old while playing for the patriots
Yeah
Hyperbole
He had to be at least 109 !
Lmao I straight looked up his age after this man said that in the video.
Yeah, it was just a simple error. He meant to say 66.
Bob hays changed the game.
Nobody was faster than Bob Hayes! He won 100 meter GOLD MEDAL!
A lot of track stars become NFL players, and I'm sure the 100 meter players are pretty close in speed, and possibly get faster, with training, but most are never that great, but when your on a great team that can blow open holes, Olympic 100 meter speed from any era will be great,
No Bo jackson change sports period all star in baseball and football also the fastest of all those players #5 is a joke to America
DK Metcalf chasing down Budda Baker is insane... Honorable motion at least - The fact that he's 6'4" and 235lbs?!? That's ridiculous.
What that guy said about "growing up a Giants fan" was true for me. I hated every time he caught the ball. These guys are right, he is #1.
Cliff Branch not being in the hall of fame is beyond absurd!
Exactly!
@@sydboski I agree the media had a bias against the Raiders and still does case and point Paul Zimmerman ex sports writer for Sports Illustrated said he would never vote for Kenny Stabler for the Hall of Fame.
OBBOR4 THERE ARE A BUNCH OF EX RAIDERS THAT HAVE BEEN DENIED AND OF COURSE BRANCH IS AMONG THEM.
Cliff Branch and Drew Pearson Both better get in the Hall of Fame
Lester Hayes with the Stickum nonsense which was introduced to him by Biletnikoff who's in the Hall.
I don't even wanna go there, because you'll have complicit bias folks claiming I'm using this Rhetorical Device word created to fit a warped narrative but I digress.
Devin Hester??
Hester was not blazing fast. He was quick with very good vision.
sydboski Are you serious? I am a Miami Hurricane fan (Season Tix Holder) so i had the luxury of watching Hester a few years before His NFL career. i have never seen him caught from behind! Thats all that counts in football!! He was as fast as any of those guys on the football field.
+Danny Canes Yes I am dead serious. You've never seen him caught from behind? Here look at this video: czcams.com/video/MVT91mNMS8A/video.html #43 from the Colts is Matt Giardano he ran 4.48 in the 40. But was a 400m champion in HS. Your boy Hester ran 4.41 in the 40 and 10.61 in the 100m. Very good speed, but not top ten worthy. Just because you never saw him caught from behind doesn't mean he should be in the top 10 all time. There have been a lot of players you haven't seen caught from behind, do they belong? Does Giardano belong? I certainly hope not. To break into the NFL's top ten fastest players of all time you would need to be a world class sprinter, and run faster than 10.10 100m. Willie Gault and Gerald Tinker are tied for 10th place on the all time 100m list.
Wydog Studios DJax only ran 10.5 reportedly. Not in the top 10.
Looks can be deceiving. That's why speed is not an opinion, it is measurable. You really can't accurately judge a person's speed by just looking at them or watching them run. Everything you see them do is based on the others running with them. DJax running away from a 10.7 DB looks the same as Jerry Rice running away from even slower DB's. What some people call "the eye test" is not close to being exact.
Can you do a video of the top 10 fastest kick/punt returner
Love the toosie rolls lol
R.I.P. Cliff Branch
I heard Deion raced The Flash and won you have to check your sources 😅🤣😂
Honorable Mention: Warren Wells, Raider deep threat wide receiver from 1967-70.
How fast was he?
Deion as Leon Sandcastle…doesn’t get better than that
