It's honestly one of the best lenses Fuji made, even with the auto focus which was a nightmare with the Xpro1/Xt1 it always delivers. Now with my Xpro2 and XT3 this lens is truly alive. Truly disappointed with the 33 1.4's lack of any style and size, fuji really dropped the ball on that "upgrade".
The 35mm f1.4 is still the best 35mm lens you can get in my opinion.
A big difference on the xpro 2 compared with the xt1 ? Considering getting the pro 2.
@@AndreiDimaReviews not what you said in youre video? Got a feeling from this video that the lens is just useble, nothing more...my toughts on the lens is that it is simply amazing!
@@-OEG I said multiple times it is a special lens and the best 35mm lens I have ever tried.
The 33 isn't the 35's successor as both lenses stay in fujis lineup, i agree they could definitely make a 35 mark II with linear Autofocus motors and just re-use the optics but the 33mm definitely is meant for working photographers who need a reliable and weather sealed lens.
I have almost the entire Fujifilm lineup of lenses, excluding the newest 23 and 33mm f1.4. Whatever lens I use, modern or vintage, I always go back to the original 35mm f1.4. In my opinion, its character, bokeh quality, sharpness, and entire look and feel are unmatched.
This is the only Fujifilm lens I am never going to sell.
I used to feel like 50mm (equivalent) was boring back when I used full frame, but with the amazing character and 3D depth created by this lens it became fun again. I feel like if I upgraded to the new 33 1.4 it would just become boring again. I have the 23 1.4 LM WR instead if I need more perfect image quality (and that lens DOES also have nice character, not too clinical).
Very nice video for such a minimal setup. Loved the vibe, the music, the look. Very european cinematic indeed. Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Perfect review of this legendary lens. Your images are beautiful and showcase the special character of this lenses rendering. As you said the slow autofocus that many just regurgitate is way over exaggerated. As long as you make the focus box med to large in size it focuses nice and fast, at least in single point. I do enjoy the softness of this lens when you shoot wide open and close up. It gives a classic feel to the image that works great on many subjects like flowers and insects. The very close focus distance also adds to this charm. One point that is almost never mentioned is that this lens is very sharp wide open if you are further away from your subject. I have compared it to the Nikon Z 50mm 1.8 which everyone raves in so sharp and my fuji 35mm 1.4 is sharper wide open at distances further away that 5-6 feet in both the center and midframe. In only the corners is the Nikon Z sharper wide open. This lens renders so much nicer than the Nikon Z lenses or pretty much any other lens I have used. I only with that this lens was a little wider sometimes. If the 27mm f2.8 had this lenses rendering that would probably be my go to, but this one is just hard to leave behind.
Thank you! I didn't know about the distance sharpness at f1.4, I will check it out!
Regarding the hood / cap situation. You do not need to remove the hood to install or remove the cap. Simply insert the cap at an oblique angle until the edge meets the lens filter ring. Then pivot the cap until it rests flat. Then you can snap it into place by squeezing the spring loaded tab. To remove, just use a single finger to press one tab and the cap will freely move off of the filter ring.
It may be easier if you hold the lens pointing downward allowing the cap to fall into your palm.
Had this lens for years and never took the hood off once.
Thank you for the tips!
True, and not only that, but since the hood is so well protective you actually rarely need a lens cap at all. In my bad I just keep the lens with the cap off, the hood is enough.
Great review! I just bought it used on ebay and was a little bit worried about the mechanical "noise", but now I have a very helpful answer and don't worry about it anymore :)
Thank you! I am glad it was helpful.
I was worried about the noise on this when I got it. Thanks for going over that!
Glad I could help!
Good Morning! Thank you for another excellent review video!
I watched with pleasure your beautiful presentation of the Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4 lens.👍
Thank you very much!
Of all of my 15 Fujifilm lenses, this is one of my favourites!
Your Fuji reviews are one of the best out there. 🎉 This lens is on its way to me, while iam in love with the 33mm i want this one for its compactness and character for personal photography.
Thank you! I try to do my best with what time I have.
Thank you for this feedback !
Thank you for watching!
I love this lens and it's probably my most used one. Yeah, it's loud, AF can be a bit "slow" and there is focus hunting but the image quality... it's just too nice. There is a good reason it's still being sold, popular and almost the same value as ten years ago.
In my opinion this is still the best 35mm lens for the Fujifilm system.
I just got an xt3 with the 35 1.4. It’s scared me at first, like it wanted to jump out of my hands 😂. The autofocus was snappy and quick.
How is it for video?
Great review! Good quality camera. Incredible lens. It’s very useful for filming. Very nice sharing.
Thanks so much!
lovely content, thank you.
Thank you!
Great video, probably my favourite lens.
What settings do you tweak to set autofocus for video to be good for this lens?
Thank you! This worked for me and is far from perfect. AF-C Custom settings: tracking +2 and AF speed +2 and I turn off face and eye detect when I film scenes. I you want to record people I found that face and eye detect work best at F/4.
I love my Arturito! It was my first Fuji lens when I bought the X-T1, and I never wanted to sell it.
He said R2-D2 not Arturito😂
@@MaxR. I know, I'm from Argentina and in Spanish the character is called Arturito like the diminutive of Arthur.
@@JuanKis good to know :)
Cute name!
Can you please make a video and talk about the issue of the new samyang 12mm af f2 lens. Concerning the problem with the ibis when used in combination with the x-s10. Because for some reason, the ibis stops working. Fujifilm and samyang are not doing anything to fix this, but maybe if we get enough people talking about it, they will address the problem. Thank you.
Thanks. That was my first Fuji prime lens, incredible sharp and lovely bokeh, still have it.
And by the way are you going to release any new recipes this year? Cheers.
Thank you for watching! I am going to release a recipe video soon, I am experimenting with two new recipes made by me, one black and white and one color, but I still need to tweak them a bit before I make a video.
Wonderful shots! Great to see what you get out of the lens. What do you use btw to shoot those dreamy b-roll bits starting at around the 1:00 mark? Love how it looks
Thank you! I used the Fujifilm X-Pro2 with the Viltrox 23mm f1.4 and the bloom and film look I added in post with the Dehancer plugin for DaVinci Resolve. I made a video about Dehancer: czcams.com/video/4AcImW3IOuI/video.html
@@AndreiDimaReviews ah yeah I saw it! Thanks for the detail!
Great video
Thanks!
The image @6:12 is simply stunning 👏👏👏 I have the 23 + 35f2 both great but I'm itching to get my hands on the 35f1.4 for the magic and creativity!
Thank you! Try to rent one before buying, maybe you will not like the autofocus.
# 36 Very interesting video. I like it. Thanks for sharing.
Greetings my friend Andrei.
Thank you very much
amazing video shoot, simple and beauty! did you use Black mist filter on the lens? because i see the light is blooming. or that's just a tweak recipes?
Thank you! I used the Dehancer plugin for DaVinci Resolve to add the bloom and halation. I made a video about it and you can watch it here: czcams.com/video/4AcImW3IOuI/video.html
And if you are interested in buying it use the promo code ANDREIDIMA for a discount.
Wow that'll help full, sure will watching soon. Thank youu for your sharing 😁
That video is amazing. Did you shot it in raw?
Thank you! The X-T4 cannot shoot RAW video, it is 4K, 24p, 10bit, h.265 at 200mbs.
May I ask what is the music you used at 6:20?
Si.
Andrei, question: My XT3 w/ 35mm 1.4. when I press the play back button to review images the lens retracts and then positions itself back to normal after I stop reviewing photos. Does yours do that ?
Hello, yes it does the same thing on my X-T4.
How does this lens compare to the 23mm f1.4
both love and hate it sums my opinion about it pretty well lol
The newer ones come with the square rubber lens cover.
Thx for the info.
R2D2 :-D
That describes that lens quite good. But I still love mine :-)
It is one of my favourite lenses of all time.
how do you differentiate the difference between a newer version vs an older version? I wanna buy one but I would like to know how I can tell
I think on the older version the lens cap goes on the lens on the new version it goes on the lens hood.
@@AndreiDimaReviews ty boss
Can I use it with X-H1 ?? also is it good for products and food photography ??
Yes and yes.
Would you say this lens is better than the other 35mm f/2, on my XT20 ?
I'm hesitating because of the noise, but I want the " magic " the 1.4 everyone talks about (if ther is any) ! Hahaha ^^
I think the 35mm f1.4 is better. Outside you don’t notice the AF noise.
@@AndreiDimaReviews thanks for the answer
I have this lens and iit's awesome. Amazing how many YT reviewers now crap on this lens for the 33mm f1.4 which imo really isn't that much better. Yes slightly better af and slightly better corners for $800. Wow!!!!
I think the 35mm f1.4 and the 16mm f1.4 are some of the best lenses Fujifilm ever made.
I have one of these. Will never sell it.
