The 35 1.4 is one of my favorite lenses across all camera systems. I know it’s cliche but there is indeed something magical about the results. I recently posted a video where I went to Marrakech and took only the 35. Was a joy to travel light and not be stressed about which lens to use for which shot. Quite liberating actually. Wonderful lens.
For seven years this was my one and only lens (on xt1 naturally) but it died not long ago The lens is beautiful and the best lens I have ever used I couldn't afford a replacement so I have the 18-55. Your images show exactly what it can do. Well done indeed
Interesting enough, most people start doing photography for just this type of shooting. Taking fun walks and documenting the environment has so many benefits beyond photography as well. Be well!
Hi Chris. I bought this lens six months ago, because I was encouraged by the reviews and opinions about the unique quality of the image, the magic of the image. And I can confirm this gorgeous glass worth every cent. With this lens I don't want to attach manual lenses via an adapter anymore. Just wonderful images with my X-T1, x-T20 and especially x-e1 gives it something amazing, vividness, color and such an analogue aftertaste of photos. I am delighted with this lens.
Great review! The filmic look is just mind-blowing!
Will order mine soon!
Thank You! As I said in your comparison video to the TT Artisan, just one example, I used the Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4 for 90% of my VOGUE shoot and the other image was the 56mm. The 35 is one of my faves. I need autofocus for my work, can't use MF for my fashion shoots.
Beautifully articulated Chris! 👏👏👏
I’ve had my 35 1.4 for over 9 years now (started on an X-E1) and it’s still my favourite Fuji lens - and I have a lot of them! It rarely leaves my X-Pro2….
how do you find the autofocus on the x-pro 2 with that lens? You always hear that it is slow and clunky, but I wondered if that was justified
Small, quirky, light, & bright. I do like this lens, and it does have a beautiful rendering. Performance wise there are times where I feel I'd be better off with a manual focus. The manual focus on the lens itself is more meant for fine-tuning of focus rather than fast focus pulls. You just have to adjust your style a bit, pre-focus when you can.
Glad you are enjoying this Chris! I'm using mine on an X-E3 w/ grip. I often will roll with a single zoom lens (18-300), or just this one. Both bring extreme versatility in their own ways.
I had the 35mm f/2 Fujicron for a couple of years before getting the f/1.4 version. I was scared by all the negative feedback about the focus speed and noise (audible). Yes the Fujicron is smoother, silent and faster to focus, but the faster f/1.4 is more than serviceable in the real world. But the rendering is what makes putting up with the very few weaknesses worth it. My lens lives at f/1.4. With the camera set to the mechanical/electronic shutter setting, I can shoot at full aperture in bright sun.
After f/4 you can flip a coin as to which lens to use, but the rendering at the widest apertures makes the faster lens a must have for old film shooters.
The 35 1.4 is glued to my XT1 when I’m not using manual lenses. 👍🏻
This lens is perfect imperfect-my favorit lens; even for my documentary family photography ☺️
Damn, I so miss my X-Pro1. I have still got this lens and I love it as much as I did when I had the 1.
I now have an X-E3. But also using my Zeiss Ikon Contessa LK with Monochrome film.
Great relaxing view. I have this lens, it lives on my X-T3.
Thanks for this .... I just got one for the first time.. from cex. Nothing with it, not even a hood, but I'm pretty happy with it in nice condition
No doubt this is one of the best Fujinon lens. I love it since it launched tgt with the Xpro1. It is still glued to my Xpro1 nowadays.
My 35mm f/2 is one of the most used lenses until now because the new 56mm f/1.2 is now my favorite 😁
I agree with your assessment of the xt1 and the low light capabilities. i'd love to get my hands on a copy of the 35mm. I own the 33mm f1.4. However, I've never shot the 35.
My favourite focal length. And yes, it is a special lens
Thank you for your enthousiastic story on this lens. After long thinking in purchased the 35 f2 Fujinon. But I believe you are right, 35 1.4 is a very good lens and goes back to Leica lenses in an way. I like the analogue film look, the 16 1.4 also produces this effect. I am not interested in the 40 MP versions of Fujifilm APS-C camera's, I'd rather stick to my XT 20 and X-Pro2. Nowadays everybody is asking for "the best lens" and if it is not sharp enough it's no good. Sharpness is only one aspect of a lens; color rendition an micro contrast is very importnat, but often forgotten. I take pictures with my old Mamiya C330 Professional, of course you need to digitalize the negatives, but the look is sharp, with a pleasant softness that gives it a very natural look. I love it! (And your videos as well).
I will never get rid of mine as long as I shoot fuji. Great lense indeed.
I have the F2 WR one. Have you tested that one? Is the F1.4 that much better?
Nice video ! You used the 35mm in the rain, even though this lens is not weather sealed. Wasn't it damaged ?
sir I have a question at the next Q&A video on your CZcams channel..
which manual lens is better to buy first that you love or suggest for the beginners.
thank you and have a wonderful day to you ;)
Noted - will add this to my next Q&A. thanks!
Greetings from Greece 💙🤍
The more I see reviews of the 35 1.4 like this one, the more I think I got a dud. The images I get with it are very average .. nothing magical or fun about it 😕
Skill issue 😉
There is sth special about this lens bokeh
