Tony do let’s gooo! Man I’ve missed you man! Glad you accomplish your Dream! Keep going 💪🏾💪🏾
Glad to have you back, Tony! Congrats on your first job and graduating PT school. I also just re-located to Washington! It'd be awesome to link up sometime.
Welcome back and congrats on graduating PT school! Enjoyed this type of video I just started my first job as a PTA at a SNF last month! Hopefully I'll make it out to Washington one of these days those views look awesome!!
So cool to see how you’ve progressed in life. Glad you’re back man!
Thank you!!
Nice job capturing what home health PT looks like, i've always wondered what its like. Also, hope you're enjoying WA!
Loving WA so far! Thanks for the support.
Yoooo i remember watching you years ago for IIFYM advice, good to see your back and doing well! 👊🏻
If it fits your macros! Let’s go. Thanks for the support.
Glad to find your channel. Have done home health the past year as PTA. The scheduling is the most challenging in my opinion. And those start of cares you guys chart up are insane long. Thanks for the content. Keep up the grind.
Thanks, Tim!
Awesome vid. I just applied to PT school so this really makes me look forward to the future. It seems home health is the way to go, with declining reimbursement in outpatient.
Home health is one of the few settings in physical therapy that pays us what we deserve! Good luck with the process.
Hey Tony,
Please keep making these types of videos, really interesting to watch and crazy how busy it is. I’m a undergraduate student hoping to become a DPT. So this was cool. Would also be super cool to see life outside too like amount of free time u get.
For sure! Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching.
One thing I’ve always loved about your videos is not what you say, but how you explain things. My parents go to PT and I never knew how hectic that career is. I really enjoyed this video!!!!
Thank you for the kind words, Chris! This is just ONE area of PT and a therapist who works in the hospital setting, with sports, with neurological patients, etc. will look DRASTICALLY different than my home health days. Glad you enjoyed it!
Welcome back man! Congrats on finishing PT school.
Thank you, Lawrence!
Super helpful! Thanks for this video ✌🏾
I’m a physical therapist assistant new grad. My first clinical rotation in school was home health. I really enjoyed it. We used the same documentation system.
Very nice! Welcome.
Welcome back tdo!
Great video! I work as a home health PT (Medicare B) in Manhattan and I have everything I need in a hiking bag 😅 I use public transportation ( city bus , bike, subway) and walk A LOT to see patients (10 block radius). I see between 6-8 patients in a day. It’s New York minute every work day! All the best!
Wow!🙌🙌
Props!!
You are awesome! I am actually about to do home health as PRN but was given so little time to learn especially the documentation. I dont have home health experience. This helps boost confidence. I am going to have my own patients in 3 days and Im anxious and nervous on how my day will go.
Welcome! Just take it day by day and it’ll get easier as you go 👍
OG sub here bro.Awesome you are back dropping videos. You were always talking about IIFYM’s.
Good ole day of eating videos!
I’m a PT making the switch from OP to HH so this helped so much!! Thank you!
Welcome!
Insane to see how far you’ve come man, OG T.do follower here, in the middle of my first year at PT school at USC! Congrats on graduating and you make home health seem desirable! Did you have any interest in acute care ortho or even sports rehab?
I did like my acute care rotation! I had plenty of outpatient/sports rehab experience during my clinicals too and I enjoyed my time but am SO happy I am not stuck in an office all day seeing patient after patient after patient.
No way tonys back!? Good to see you doing well brother
Thanks man! Hope you’re doing well.
please do more of these!
Yes, you are back, 🔥, hope that you can upload more often. Really loving watching you showing the insights of a physiotherapist as I am a physiotherapy student myself and I just start my first semester for a month really want to know more what is waiting for me in the future. 😂💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Where are you located?! Good luck!
Tony Do Thank you. I am currently studying at the UK. I really like physiotherapist, its just like I am studying but at the same time I having fun 😂 especially for the practical sessions, which I find time flies every time 😂.
Rt I figured you weren’t in the United States as you addressed it as physiotherapist like the rest of the world. The United States I believe is the only country that refers to it as straight physical therapy lol. Well keep at it man!
Tony Do Tony Do Thank you. What’s your channel focus on now, physical therapist/ physiotherapist stuff or back to the good old fitness content ? Would be great if you make a video about what you find useful while studying physical therapy/ physiotherapist such as web sites like ken hub, books, apps and things like that. If you plan to do more fitness contents I enjoy those as well (long time subscriber 😂)anyway very glad you are back 💪🏻 💪🏻💪🏻
Rt Rt just about anything I want to create topics about! Lifestyle/vlogs/fitness/tech/physical therapy/education etc. I found that when I try to have too much of a specific niche I get burnt out of doing it and it’s no longer fun for me.
Great content! 👍👍👍
That's pretty cool you can do all that on your phone!
For sure! I would LOVE if this specific EMR was compatible with Apple products and available to access on laptop, but it is what it is!
Wow congrats Tony, yo I’ve been watching u since before gymshark. Is your sister still in the CZcams game?
Thanks for the video Tony! I am looking into transitioning into home health from acute setting. Would you mind going over home health rates for PTs and how to negotiate? Will continue to support your channel! Thank you in advance!
Home health average rates will vary based on region so do some research there.
Then you want to go direct to agency vs utilizing a staffing company (middle man) essentially to maximize rates. For negotiation make sure you're knowledgeable on PDGM and explain WHY you should get those higher rates. Feel free to DM me on Instagram or email for a more in depth conversation, but i'd start there and see what agencies are around you / what PT's on average there get.
@@TonyDo Will definitely do in the near future. Thank you Tony!
Literally just watched your kinesiology major video
omg i cant wait to be a PT
Hi Tony, thank you for making this video! This definitely helped me with what a Home Health setting looks like. I am currently a 3rd year PT student and am interested in Home Health as an option after I graduate. I do have some questions about Home Health.
Thanks for watching! Episode two should be out in a few days. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about home health.
@@TonyDo Awesome, looking forward to it! I was wondering if you want to chat about it?
How old were you when you finished DPT school, if you don’t mind me asking and how long after you graduated did it take you to get your first job? I love the content, very high quality, keep it up 💪🏽
Around 3 months or so. COVID didn’t help the case but it worked out. Thanks for watching!
New grad PT here. I loved your "feel good" session talk. I too feel home health will be extremely rewarding. I'm hoping to get a job but most HH agencies require at least 1 year of experience! I cant wait to work in HH :)
In most cases all the agencies will list they require that but if you can justify why you think your experiences to date will allow you to do well in HH you’ll be fine. I had no prior HH experience.
@@TonyDo interesting, I was a CNA (certified nursing assistant) and worked in HH for 2 years. I bet that will look great!
@@Rosalieburke yup! Any acute care, geriatric, or inpatient experience during clinicals? If so those will do just fine too.
@@TonyDo yep 13 weeks in acute care, been working in geriatrics as a CNA since I was 19
@@Rosalieburke perfect! Now just have to highlight that well on your resume, then research up on home health lingo, how the business side of it works with PDGM and all, and you’ll be ready for when that interview comes 👌🏻
Hello, awesome video. Could you perhaps clarify how to compute your pay rate for different types of visits using HH's point system? Is there a math calculation involved with this? I hear folks discussing 1, 2, and 2.5 points. What does this mean, exactly? Do you have any resources that you could share?
Yo man love the content. Taking the PT boards either this or next year.
Did you need work experience before you could get your HH job? I’ve heard HH agencies look for experienced therapist
No prior home health experience. Home health was my first job out of school.
Most jobs will have that written… apply anyways!
@@TonyDo awesome man, thanks.
GOAT
Having a hard remembering all the Origins, insertions, actions and nerves for the muscles
It takes time! Repetition, repetition, repetition!
Thank you for sharing your experience! I would love work as a home health PTA. I’m not sure if you answered this in the video but do you work 40 hrs? Are you guys always on call? Just curious
PTA's are definitely needed in home health! As for the 40 hours... i'd say on an average week with everything factored in between driving, phone calls, seeing patients, documentation, team coordination, meetings, and scheduling I clock in 40-50 hours/week. Something to keep in mind is that I also see 20-30% above productivity expectation on most weeks.
Good to see u back man! I was actually looking into go forward in my career and PT was one of my choices and the other was RN. In your opinion, which would be quicker to accomplish?
Assuming you’re in the United States RN is for sure faster as that’s a 4 year process vs the DPT is a 7 year process.
Tony Do yes I’m in California. U think becoming just a PT than DPT would be fine?
@@glenng2655 Doesn't exist anymore! All physical therapists as of 7-8 years ago are now DPT's.
Tony Do thank you so much and glad to see you doin well! Big change from the blue room! Lol
Glenn G ahhh the good ole blue room lol. let me know if you ever have questions about navigating which health care field to enter.
Aye!
Sup Tony, are you an independent contractor with home health or do you work under W2? I was wondering what the pros and cons were to each. Cool video!
I work W2 personally!
@@TonyDo ah cool! Do you have video of why you chose W2 over contractor by any chance?
Do you think it would be beneficial to wait 1-2 years before starting as a HHPT? In terms of increasing your clinical knowledge or skills before heading solo?
Yes and no. Home health has such a steep learning curve to it that it’s tough regardless of experience. Increasing clinical knowledge will help in certain instances, but at the the same time I feel like when you’re in a specific setting for x amount of time your mind just naturally gravitates towards that way of thinking and approach. That can both be helpful and a hinderance if that makes sense.
I think more importantly what’s important for home health is being organized, fwd thinking, personable, resourceful, adaptable, and being able to juggle numerous things at once.
Hello! Can I ask how much you make? I see your paperwork takes a long time so I am trying to figure out if you get paid for that or only when your with the patient?
I'll make a separate video about physical therapy salaries soon. For my company I get a flat fee for the visit with the patient and everything that entails (driving, seeing the patient, documentation, phone calls, etc.)
My school currently doesn’t have the actual physical therapy major but im majoring in recreational therapy to get accepted into the physical therapy program . Is this a good idea ?
Assuming you’re in the United States, yes physical therapy is not a major as it is a post bachelor progressional graduate program. You can major in anything so long as you have the pre requisite classes completed as well that PT programs require. Good luck!
You mentioned finding a restroom. Is that a challenge throughout a HH day?
Yes! Though, it is easier now than the timing of this video due to Covid.
Hey Tony! Do you recommend home care to a fresh graduates?
I do! It's a steep learning curve but you can do it.
Soon to be DPT graduate here, considering HH PT. I know that it varies per company, but what are the rates you’re compensated for start of care visits, evaluations, follow ups, discharges? Or are you salaried or hourly? Thanks in advance!
Company dependent but it’ll vary highly. Just make sure you work for a home health agency directly vs a staffing home health company who essentially are middle men and take a cut of the pay. Join home health mentor group on Facebook for info and answers to your questions.
@@TonyDo thanks! I’ve actually been watching a ton of Dr. Brandon Smith’s vids today and checking out home health mentor, learning a whole lot. Did you happen to take the course he offers? If so, would you recommend it?
@@-m7778 i did take it. I would do it if you plan to do HH you’ll want to know the fundamentals of home health to even fair a chance in the interviews. Let me know if you’re gonna move forward with it at some point I’ll get you a discount code.
@@TonyDo Awesome, will do!! Did you take the course pre-boards or after getting your license?
@@-m7778 after. Doesn’t matter when though.
look at you now lol
Tony I’ve been told my lower spine is pinching my nerve so its causing pain in my right quad.
I have reoccuring tightness and cant run or walk like normal. I tried stretching and stuff but its been months now. Do you have any input on what else I can do?
What type of stretching/stretches have you been doing?
Tony Do
Extention laying on my stomach, Cat and camel, Lying on my back with bent knees and twisting left to right, and hip raises. Its better now but I cant run and walk straight howver i can hike at an incline.
TheDream don’t take this as solid advice as I’d have to evaluate you to do so, but based on your description of what aggravates it I would avoid doing anything extension based for your back and focus more on flexion based stretches/exercises.
Tony Do Forsure. Thank you very much.
TheDream I would also look up some nerve flossing exercises too, as well as quadratus lumborum stretch. Hope this advice helps.
Do you recommend home health as a new grad??
Yes I do! Steep learning curve logistically but if your agency has a good on boarding/training program you’ll be good to go. From a patient standpoint if you’ve done anything lower level than outpatient during clinicals you’ll be fine.
For a SOC 1.5 to 3 hours in the home...? Not a chance
Huh? What’s your experience been then? My personal experience as well as many I speak to it’s usually 1-1.5hrs in home and then an extra 30-45 to finish documentation depending on how efficient you are.
If I said 3 hours in home in the video then that was done in error. 3 hours TOTAL for the whole process.
hey brother had a couple questions was wondering if we could chat via email or phone call
Shoot me an email. In description box.
@@TonyDo thanks for the quick reply! i just messaged on IG if that works!
What made you choose home health, Tony?
A number of reasons! Will speak on that in a future video.
Tony Do I’m eager to see it! I’m a third year getting ready to set out into the DPT job market and would love to hear your opinion.
Btw you are a natural vlogger. Really hope you keep up with these. Been following since T-Do Footy days.
Garbage Peasant eyyy good luck on your final year man! Thank you for the long time support 🙌🏻👌🏻
