My wife and I lived for almost 20 years in Houston in the late 1970’s through the early 1990’s, and our adult son and his wife live there now. While we have fond memories of our time there and enjoy visiting Houston, I have concluded it is a tough town to live in long term. As if any large metro is not difficult enough with traffic, crime, economic ups and downs, (and there are good things like great museums, great healthcare options if you need them), when you add in hurricanes, floods, tornados, power outages, etc, it really gets to be hard, particularly if you are self employed or own a small business. I know exactly how you are feeling. I can remember driving into my office in the Galleria area one and thinking “it had been so long since I had experienced any fun that I was not sure I could remember how to have it”. And of course I ended up broke once or twice, came within a whisker of losing the house, had the power shut off at the house and had to figure out how to get it turned back on before my wife got home from work. All VERY stressful. And overall changes in the economic and social fabric of our country over the past twenty years have not helped. The disparity in economic wealth between the rich and the average Joe has gotten ridiculous. Just today I’m reading where average Fortune 500 CEO pay went up 16% in the last year versus 3% for average wage earners. In my opinion it is time to admit that a lot of what is hurting our country is Americans being willing to steal from Americans. The big corporations, the big non profits, the politicians, they are all stealing from us. And you can’t lay that off on the immigrants, the Russians, or the Saudis. It is time Americans stop stealing from Americans.

Praying for you hang in there. I'm typing this from Edmond as we speak and sorry you had a bad experience here. Your story is why I tell my kids that no matter what appearances may say, there's a ton of unhappy wealthy people here. Happiness is temporary, joy is lasting. Seek and find joy. There's only one TRUE source for it. If you do move, give the OKC area a 2nd glance. Low cost of living, people are generally nicer and more easy going than Houston too. Jobs are plentiful. Tulsa area too, especially east of there in between Siloam Springs and Tulsa. Lots of small communities to live in and beautiful riding weather and scenery.

I moved out of expensive homes 20 years ago and became debt free because I knew I would be living on a fixed income. Best move I ever made. Present economy is terrible and my biggest bill now is groceries...

Howdy neighbor. Sort of. I live in San Antonio. You are braver than I. I have a 2023 Vespa GTS300 and even with that I would not drive the access roads along the Katy Freeway. Heck I prob wouldn’t ride anywhere around Houston. Everybody drives at Mach 5 with their hair on fire. They do that here too but SA is still somewhat of a big small town if you know what I mean. Very different than DFW/Hou/Aus areas. But it *is* changing and when I retire in a few years, I’m not staying here. May move to the next county or something. Been looking at Arkansas as well as my home state of Alabama. BTW - your accent and cadence and tone is EXACTLY like someone I work with. I can’t tell the difference between you two and thought it might be him incognito here. He is from OK too. Hope you are safe and well after all those storms.

I was an IT Director for a small defense contractor and when management decided to retire and bring in new people they forced me out at 58. Thank God I had planned to be done by 50 so I did get 8 years to invest and plan because I saw the writing on the wall. Hang in there and remember to look out for number one because no one else will.

Yeah but the down turn of 08 forced me into permanent retirement and consumed most of my savings until SS kicked in... Like you I had planed for retirement but not at that time. I was debt free at the time otherwise i would have been screwed, doing OK now...

I wonder how much of the difference in the CT and the cub is the tires you have on there. If I remember right you up sized the CT's tires with a bit more dirt focus. That will make a difference in road feel.

Hey Quasi, if you do not mind me asking - what do you use to get the GPS overlay? BTW - never give up, but it's ok to take a rest now ant then!😀

    • @QuasiRAW

Thanks for the support! The telemetry data for the HUD is recorded by my GoPro Hero11 camera. The gauge overlay is generated using a third-party program called Telemetry Overlay: goprotelemetryextractor.com/
I stitch everything together with Adobe Premiere Pro to create the final videos. Creating the overlays is a lot of extra work, but I think the end results are worth the effort. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Quasi, if your a tech computer guy? Atleast I think that's your profession, not totally sure, but i would encourage you to look at Pittsburgh area, great hospitals, and the computer technology scene here in Pittsburgh is very vibrant and up and coming, but more important the cost of living is lower than just about any other major metropolitan area in top 10 in size population, it really is city life and country small town life all in one, but I wish you best, and iam horrible with computers, don't know how, but just let me know if you anything i could help you with, i don't do social media at all, no Facebook none that shit, i don't like social media at all, i don't participate, but if you see me in comment section, i always watch and check comments, but i truly wish you and your family the best,
But definitely look at Pittsburgh market!!

Just checked 2024 colors. Your blue combo is back. I didn't like it at first but now I think it is great. I like the new pearl gray one better than the older pastel blue. 👍😁

The blue scheme is beautiful IMO. So tired of generic black and silver bikes which seems to be all the OEMs are making nowadays. Plus, it helps with road visibility.
