Just wanted to stop by and say great videos Mike!!! I used to do construction when I was in college (mostly roofing but we did bathrooms and other various work once in a while) but if you're not doing these types of projects every day you tend to forget steps. You're very thorough in detailing what parts/tools you're using and more importantly WHY you are doing what you do. That really helps when trying to figure out what I'll need to do when I redo my own bathroom. I'm DIY homeowner in the process of updating room by room in my place. Kitchen is done, flooring done and now onto the vanities and bathroom. These can be more intimidating due to the plumbing and demo involved and the pressure to do it correctly. Your videos really help providing confidence that I can do this myself (luckily I have a brother & friends that know this stuff just in case I need someone to bail me out haha). A lot of other contractors go to fast or assume you're a pro when explaining processes, or even worse they DON'T provide tricks of the trade on their videos. If anything you are getting you're name out there and positive word of mouth about your work. I'll definitely be using your vids for tips and also other ideas when I redo my place. Thanks for posting!

I have to say that i watched many videos on this topic, and this one is by no doubt, No.1. I wish you were in LA, California so that you could do my bathroom. Professionals like you are no where to be found here.
I basically did remodel my bathroom, and did many parts myself except i let a plumber set the tub and do the plumbing and a tile guy to do the tile. Well i ended up demolishing the tile work and it became disaster. The only reason i hired people for that is that i wanted a professional job. My tub was installed not level, the tile guy was following the tub, and the result was the two side walls were totally not leveled. One side was next to a window, and edge of the tile was basically going away from the window line about 3/4" from the bottom to the top. Very visible. Even the tile guy barely used level. Unreal... He didn't even think water proofing was needed. Also he was arguing with me that there should be no thinset between the plywood subfloor and the backerboards. Just screws he said.... Where are the true craftsmen like you? can you open a school and teach these people how to work??? please....

The use of a flexible tail piece on the overflow tube saved me so much time and effort. I don't think it would have been possible for me to fit a standard rigid tube in my location without significant changes to the waste line. Instead, my tub was hooked up in less than 10 minutes!

I do maintenance work and I have a suggestion. That inside lip of the wall has that horizontal 2x4 nailed to support the inside 60" lip. I find that the 2x4 does not hold up with use and the seam between the tile and tub will move too much causing the caulk or grout to need constant repair (every 2 or 3 years). I recommend adding vertical 2x4 support at every stub to give it extra support. Also some tubs never sit on the floor. I suggest filling the space under the tub with support to reduce stress on that same horizontal 2x4 support. Pour concrete into a plastic bag and place that bag under the tub. The concrete will mold to the shape of the gap and give the tub a nice solid feel on the bottom. A tub full of water and a heavy set person can make the tub move and eventually destroying the seal between the tile and tub.

That bag of cement is such a great idea. We foamed the bottom of our tubs in new home construction, but you do indeed risk the expanding foam lifting the tub up if you do not weigh it down. Also, the foam method assumes you already perfectly levelled the tub. This cement idea can let you rework the tub if need be. Thanks! I'll try it out next time!

I agree. great instructional. I will say that it looks like it was a 32" wide tub that came out and only a 30" that went back in. That would explain why your drain and overflow did not line up. Everything got moved over closer to the wall, meaning the center point was a shorter distance
