- Taking a look at three different pairs of boots that kind of play in the same sandbox.
CORRECTION: In the video I say the current lead times for Nicks quick ship is 7 or 8 months. The current lead times for quick ship is 12 weeks according to the Nicks website. Don’t know why I started saying months.
Very nicely done. Beautiful boots, too. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing the insight. If you do MTO heritage you have 23-25 leathers to choose from. (if you count some limited run choices)
Nice comparison. All unique tones. Also good Last contrast. Different shapes. Cheers
Thanks man.
Great video and best of luck with the channel!
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Reall great boots! About 3 months ago I bought some Falcons in Shrunken Bison Olive. It's a great boot.
8:15 YES i am so glad someone said this! I have a pair of Red Wing 8062 in olive mojave that just look terrible on my feet from my standing perspective. Every other angle, bussin.
Thanks for the comparisons. Especially the comparison of the soft toe vs. celastic toe Nick's. Have been debating between those two options for an "Americana" MTO variant. Likely go with the soft/unstructured toe.
Glad you found it helpful. I have a pair of Americanas that have a celastic toe. The toe on it is much more exaggerated due to Nicks doing a true cap toe. Still love the boot, just not the most sleek looking thing out there.
Awesome I literally just ordered the same leather yesterday
I've also thought that such a high stitch density on the viberg stitchdown would make it weaker, as it's coming close to perforation, with so many holes so close together. I think that flanged out leather would be almost worthless in a resole, as it's so shot up with holes. Plus, who would want to resole that, if they had to reuse those holes and stitch so much? I think a welt would have to be used if you wanted a strong resole. I don't like the look of it either, I much prefer the stitch density on the Nicks.
I’ve always personally found that the whites welt looks a bit wonky
If you haven’t tried the Viberg 2040 last, I highly recommend it. It is more snug in the heel and mid foot areas and roomier in the toe box. I’m a 9.5 D/E on the Brannock scale, and an 8.5 fits perfectly. One of my most comfortable boots!
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll look into the 2040.
I am a 9 heel to toe brannock but 9.5 heel to ball, do you think i should get 8.5 or 8 on the viberg? Thanks
I agree with you on the 2030 last. Not my favorite. The MP last on the other hand, it's amazing, IMO. Great comparisons, thank you.
Glad you liked it.
Maybe to try different laces on the sausage. I kind of see potential in the idea where laces would more pronounce the lacing so there is a bigger brake between quaters and the vamp
Really nice boots man. We are the same size.
I’ve only been collecting since the beginning of this year. But I plan on starting to get some nicer leathers like these here.
Thanks for watching the video. Hope you have fun with the hobby/addiction.
@@aChannelAboutBoots 🤣 thanks man you too!
I have a pair from each of the makers and agree the Nicks toe bump looks a bit funky. I think my next pair from them will have a soft toe. All 3 companies I have no problem recommending to people. All 3 have a couple good sales every year so there's money to be saved for sure.
Nice video and sell the Vibergs they hold a good value- If they do not fit right you will never enjoy them. I have a fair amount of boots and over th years have sold to get in a bit wider, shorter or longer as I noticed if fit is not great they tend not be worn. Also a huge thing is socks...I have boots that are sized to wear with boot socks, boots sized to wear with medium thick socks and ones sized to wear with basically dress socks. Makes a big difference.
100% agree on the 2030. It's a real shame it's become their flagship last. Their anatomical options are so much more attractive and better fitting.
I love the look of the 1035. Unfortunately I have the same sizing issues with it as with the 2030.
They're a week's wages and I think my darling would veto the purchase
Do your MP's have the celastic toe and standard order or were they customized with the unstructured toe?
They’re not custom. The toe is structured.
What kind of leather is that on the Wickett and Craig?
Double stuffed buck brown
What does your typical rotation consist of?
I wear one pair of boots throughout the week for work and really just put on whatever else I feel like at the time outside of that. The majority of the time it will be some kind of PNW boot or a pair of grant stones.
A key advantage of Nick's is the availability of both narrower and wider widths. I really like Viberg's more interesting leathers and wish they would make me something that would fit my 4E feet, but when I emailed them about it they made it clear that they had no interest in selling me anything that would actually fit. (White's website implies that they can also accommodate, but I've never tested them.)
Great point about sizing, wish I had mentioned that in the video. If you check out Bakers you can get custom Whites in sizing other than just D and EE so I assume if getting them directly from whites it would be the same. But I’m a D width so I never asked.
I'm wearing whites that are 2 different widths.
The MP steals the show imo, but I'm not much of a fan of white's rolled welt
Is color 8 like an oxblood color?
Yes...... "a deep brown with a reddish undertone that is almost burgundy or dark cherry"
Yeah kinda burgundy/oxblood. The actual color isn’t as bright as it shows up in the video here.
Oh ok. It does look bright in the video
@@aChannelAboutBoots what kind of leather is the Wicket and Craig?
You can't go wrong with either
That second pair of nicks has a wonky heel. What happened there?
Stellar PNW build quality…
@@aChannelAboutBoots really? That’s really bad. Did you reach out to them about it?
@@colinsnexus Nah. It doesn’t bother me. I’ll eventually wear the heel cap down and get it replaced. Not worth the time to send it back to them and wait for them to fix it for me.
Viberg 1030 would suit u then
People complain about the price of Vibergs, but for 20-30% more they look way nicer with both the last shape and stitching. I like Nicks, but I’m not waiting 8 months or more when I can have the nicer Vibergs immediately. Can’t go wrong with any of them though.
Somewhat disturbing about the Viberg's , considering their price point. Yes, they do look like sausage!
I have a pair of Nick's and had to wait six months for them, but they fit and look great (they're also on the same last) . Yes, they really do look like a potato!
