- 40mm Bofors anti-aircraft guns are removed from USS KIDD (DD-661) for transportation to the Battleship TEXAS museum staff who will be restoring them at their workshop while KIDD continues her shipyard period. It's a great #MuseumCollaboration: economy of effort for the KIDD crew, and extra income for the Battleship TEXAS crew. #OneFleet
I could use those in the bed of my pickup....are they for sale or rent ??
Just really hope they get them placed back on. I noticed USS TEXAS had her guns removed to be restored but they were not put back on her when she left drydock
TEXAS is undergoing work pierside now, after drydock. Still in the shipyard. KIDD is doing work pierside, waiting her turn for drydock. The schedules are different based on needs and availability. Gulf Copper bought their drydock immediately prior to TEXAS leaving her berth, so she was its first customer. Rest assured, both ships will have their armament back in place when the job is done.
Excellent!
It would be Kool if " The Kidd" could be given clearance from the Navy, or a "pardon" from a president on the way
out of office the privilege, or honor of having an engine again. That way, out of all the world war II ships that remain, the "Kidd" would be the "only" ship from that time period able to make the trek back to the Pacific,and then lead a fleet of Navy vessels back to "Pearl harbor" for a 100 year anniversary in 2041, and then lay a reef at the site of the USS "Arizona" memorial. That would be Great!!!😊
Well, there's a problem with that. THE Victory and Liberty ships that cruise have working engines, as does LST-325, the tug COMANCHE, and the submarines that fire up their diesel engines like COBIA. So, KIDD would not be the only WWII ship with working engines, per your scenario. 🤷♂️
Are they being removed to be persevered ? Best wishes to all in keeping this great ship alive 👍🇬🇧❤️🇺🇲
Yes. They've been sent to the Battleship TEXAS crew for restoration since they have a shop already set up and a crew experienced in tearing these guns down to individual components, cleaning, repairing, and putting back them together. Economy of labor for us, extra money for them. A great museum collaboration!
@@usskidd661 Excellent idea all around. There's no sense in "reinventing the wheel."
That’s really cool but you need Ryan lol
Why?
@@usskidd661 Just trying to be funny. Your videos are first rate 😃😃😃😃😃
@mm3mm3 : Thanks. We were being funny too ... i.e. "We're ALL Ryan...." 😉
