  • The USS Kidd has been frozen in time on the shore of the Mississippi River for 40 years. Its once-safe cradle has turned its enemy puncturing holes in her hull.
We looked into what's next for the Kidd, where she's going and when she'll come back.

Not entirely sure how I feel about the Kidd getting stripes, but I’ll be glad to visit her again when restoration is complete.

It will definitely be a sight to see!

Definitely on par with you with her restoration, but I'm going to miss her classical look with her blue. I was largely unaware she had stripes!

Visited the ship many years ago. Hopefully I'll see it again after the restoration.

Why in the name of Hell would they put that camo scheme on her? the configuration of the USS KIDD is how she looked late 1945. and her camo scheme was the MS 22 which she currently carries. the scheme you say they want to paint her in was a failed camo scheme in WWII which is why it was discontinued, and frankly looked horrible on the ships. which is another reason the MS 22 scheme was brought into service in 45 as it was way more effective in what it was intended to do and wasn't a sore thumb paint scheme that looked totally aediculas and made a ship stand out as a perfect target. Keep the USS KIDD in her MS22 scheme as she appeared in her late war configuration. for the love of God. I can tell you up front now you will not like the Camo scheme you are proposing, and in a very short period of time it will become an eyesore.

That's an ugly camouflage. Poor decision!

The USS Kidd is on My list of Ships to visit, but please don't paint it in Dazzle camouflage. You cannot appreciate the Ships lines when painted in that horrible scheme. .

If anyone knows how to start a petition to oppose the horrible camo paint job and creating segregated quarters that the navy corrected, please let me know where I can sign and I promise I can get many more signatures than just mine.

Stripe camo! - segregated quarters! Why would you do this to the American people. It’s almost like you waited until the brave men who served on this destroyer and others of her class to be gone and then rewrite history. Horrible!

I mean decaying is not the right word but okay.
Kidd needs dry dock work done in general like any other museum ship, but I would not remotely say”decaying”.

We have removed the word 'decaying' from the title. After further review we agree it's not a fair description of the state of the ship. Thank you for your feedback.

Decaying is simply a lie. She needs work, but you’re utterly full of it.

Decaying? How disrespectful and ignorant. If you want to know what goes into maintaining a ship, just ask. Don’t just look around and assume you can judge what you see. It’s OK to not know, but to go ahead and call it decaying is idiotic.
