Thank you! Your videos have helped me on multiple occasions! Your focus on only the essential information that you want to talk about in a certain video saves so much time and your attention to detail is great!
Thank you for always posting these extremely helpful videos man! I just started printing back in October and your page has been the most helpful by far!!
I’ve been trying to print out some really highly detailed sculpts but I’m having issues with (what I believe is) stepping in my prints. Currently printing at 30um with 8k aqua vanilla resin on Sonic Mini 8kS
i trust your judgment, if i wanted a 3d printer, for 20cm plus figures/bust work, and i have around 400$ what should i get, with all the deals out now on the mini 8ks, elegoo saturn 2 8k, mars ultra 9k, photo 2x , anycubic m5 or and others or older models.
Thanks for sharing your experiences...I've got one of these printers coming to me in the next month, and I'm looking forward to receiving it.
That’s good to hear. I’ve had about 80% failures with the printer. But I’m using a special type of resin. I recently got new settings from the manufacturer.
I think your lack of failures comes from the resin you use and, of course, your ability. :)
Interesting about your special resin
Got my 8Ks yesterday and did the first print, no fail. Used default Chitubox settings. Base exposure was way too high, easy to adjust. All my file thumbnails on the screen are rotated. Prints fine, but icons are rotated?
Awesome video! i just bought the Mini8ks just because of your videos :) one quetion ? did you use AA on the models in this video ? if yes did you use x2 AA ?
Hello brother.. I would like your advice on choosing a 3D printer ... I am confused between two tripods. Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K and Anycubic Photon Mono M5s. What do you recommend?
Looks amazing! Have you done a settings video for your supports? Great videos!
I will
I cannot understand your findings. With me it's the COMPLETE OPPOSITE. So far, all my prints I tried on the Mini 8KS failed. All the prints that print perfectly on my Mini 8K fail on the MIni 8KS. The two problems are bad plate adhesion (I have to use much longer bottom exposure compared to the Mini 8K) and always parts separating from the parts. I tried Siraya Navy Grey and Phrozen 8K resins (of course with very different settings). I increase the support diameter and number compared to the Mini 8K setups and they still fail. I changed the FEP to nFEP, worked hard on levelling and z-offset (at least I managed to get rid of compression issues) but "real" parts still keep failing. And my exposure is already higher than I want it to be, with the fine detail showing signs of overexposure.
Hi Denny, I have this printer and your prints look super clean compared to mine. One video I haven't found would be someone explaining the settings of a new printer and what they do to set it up for success. I am printing, but my prints aren't showing up super clean. It took awhile for me to be aware of the anti aliasing / image blur settings for the mini 8 k s. Would you ever do a video where you go through the 8 K S settings where you explain what you look for and what you normally don't touch? If you already have this I'd love to watch it.
You could watch my previous tutorial video.
It works with all printers
@@wangdennys Cheers! I didn't see this. Thanks for being awesome.
I've got the M8Ks. I was wondering what Resins you have experimented with and your chitubox settings. I've got about 3 kg of aqua 4k left and I'm wondering if I should stick with my 1 second/layer burn time.
I am using grey 8k
Interesting.. stronger motor I am guessing? The z rail is holding up and not shifting as well despite only being a single rail.
It could be, the rail indeed wider than the usual.
good stuff as usual, What is the "other printer" .. I guess the size of the build plate has a strong influence on the forces because of deformation of the Fep that the mini does not have.Shorter exposure on mini8kS is also bringing something
Several other printers.
LOL
Several other printers.
LOL
Regarding the 8KS not being able to reduce exposure time below 1 second, I'm printing some minis at .03 layer height @ 1 second exposure with Phrozen Aqua 8k, and they are a little overexposed. I'm getting nice detail, but the more concentrated supports tend to fuse and are a nightmare to remove. Since we can't go below 1 second, what other options are there?
I am posting a new video soon.
You should check it out
what do think are the main factors leading to this?
are you going to test the new anycubic / elegoo 12k printers?
Unfortunately no
I am not in their radar.
Sorry
Maybe you can help shout at their channel so they notice me?
LOL
Curious Dennys, does the 8Ks come standard with normal FEP film, PFA, or ACF? Curious to know what material the release film is made from.
Seems like pfa/nfep
Thanks!
Did you happen to have the chance to test TGM-7 by Ameralabs on the printer? Can the exposure time now be set to less than 1 second?
Nope.
I havent got time to update the firmware.
Dennys, can you make a video about films? Acf vs nfep and how the ptfe lubricant on film is influencing them?
Yes i will.
But i wont use ptfe lube, i cant confirm it works or not.
Because on all my test, ptfe lube doesnt make any difference at all. Yet some people said it helps them.
IMO, If you need ptfe lube to the film which is already a lube itself, something is wrong with your calibration or setting.
@@wangdennys thank you Denny, this was my train of thought also, just curious how it can influence the print, I think - maybe it’s temperature based?
*ptfe I mean
*if it’s too cold in a vat, it may help
What Resin do you use?
Have you tried the Uniformation GK Two?
Not yet 😆
What is the temperature of the room you are printing in? I live in a hot climate and want to print in my garage (27-37C).
I havent measure
It been flutuative lately because it will get very hot till you sweat alot and suddenly heavy rain untill i can see fog.
@@wangdennys Good to know! Thanks!
You think the 8K S is better than the 8K and also the Mars Ultra 9k by Elegoo?
Sorry i cant test elegoo
They wont ship to me.
what possibly can give the edge to the mini 8k s? can it be a good quality fep? I get that this printer is good, but scientist in me want to know why.
I would assume it is the phrozen board? Or maybe the uv light wavelength?
@@wangdennys Too bad, Nova3D never got back to you?
@@retromodernart4426 meheheheheheh you'll see 😁
@@wangdennys
@@wangdennys it all comes down to pealing force, board wont affect it and wavelength is usually set to standard 405 cuz of resin. after a bit of research I found my assumption to be correct and it indeed is a film. if you place the same film on any other printer it will perform identically.
WOWWWW. ACF for the win!!! Incredible :O
Nope.
Definitely not acf.
let me go grab my microscope so i can read that text on my phone :p
huahahahahahahaha
get them to send one to me... ill show it the true meaning of failure :p
I Pre-ordered my Mini 8Ks knowing that it was going to be a great printer. But sad fact...I am still waiting for the notification that mine has shipped out. Phrozen still not shipping units? So sad...
Just really itching to print...I already have months worth of projects lined up.
Your wait wont be in vain.
@@wangdennys Hi Dennys, Question for you if you know. I got my Mini 8kS and so far it is wonderful to work with. I have only so far printed the calibration TEST units and they look great.
Here is my question: Do you know if Phrozen has fixed the issue of the Printer not being able to print with exposure times below 1 second? I believe while doing your test you found that no matter what you did to go lower than 1 sec exposure in the SLICER that the printer uv light was always on a minimum of 1 second?
@@everymans40k the new firmware update stated they fix the issue.
But i havent got the time to test it.
@@wangdennys Wow TY for quick reply...your answer leads me to ask a followup question. Can I tell what firmware I am running on the unit they delivered using the LCD screen? Is there a way to check my version. I am at 1 second exposure time and it is printing great but i want to get the Success side of the "Cones of Calibration" to fail at least 1 cone so i can find my very bottom exposure.
@@everymans40k check the printer info in the ui
Then compare to the firmware version at phrozen site
Hi Dennys, this is good to know, is it possible Phrozen is using a "Dynamic Mode" in firmware similar to Voxeldance Tango slicer's?
That algorithm works by calculating surface area of previous, current and next layers and changing lift/retract height/speed based on that, I find it works quite well, maybe Phrozen's got a good algorithm in firmware.
You can test this pretty easily by making a model that has narrower and wider areas and then watch if the lift and retract heights and speeds change during the print (relative to how much surface are the layer being printed has).
Keep the good stuff coming!
Possible, but not sure how it will affect the good print result on mini 8ks.
@@wangdennys According to Jan Mzàrek, appropriate wait before lift and lift speed will reduce/prevent suction problems.
@@retromodernart4426 nope, normally it wont. suction still suction no matter how fast or slow
@@wangdennys I agree, but it does depends on how well cured the resin is and how well its layer adhesion is - the wait before cure is mainly to let the pressure under the build plate equalize, wait after cure lets the resin polymer chains bond/align better.
If that's all good, and the lift speed doesn't tear the layers apart or cause the model to detach from the plate, you can get a situation like you have with the 8KS.
Unfortunately I can't put the link on here, Mzàrek has a demonstration of this exact issue (suction) on his blog, showing the effects.
I am no yesterday kid
I tried a super slow print speed and super long rest time.
But suction cup issue still appear.
Now the thing is, the printer might be different, hence different result like this mini 8k s that doesnt suffer suction cup issue even with normal setting that i posted in the full review
Isn't the printing speed slow compared to other printers?
speed is easy to adjust if you know how.
printing speed is just marketing gimmick
They using the new ACF film and not NFEP on the 8KS then?
nope, it still has loud pop during printing, and acf is matt not fully transparent like nfep.
@@wangdennys oh wow, wtf then?!?! That's bizarre as heck. I hope you do a video investigating what makes the 8ks get away with vacuum defects then, if not the film. Scientifically speaking, the film was the logical choice, as everything else should remain the same, pull forces, resin, cure rate etc
@@noviceartisan i wish i can. If i can figure out how to.
Think Phrozen will provide, I ordered the mini 8k s too, but wondering what the best print quality I can get of it
@@wangdennys See above...
What was "the other printer";)?
Mars 4 ultra?
@@jaidenlee4128 No theres no way D would have a M4A. He has no relationship withe Elegoo. He can't even buy Elegoo where he is living.
Ahahahahahhaa you're right 🤣🤣🤣
