Buy WARGAMER - The best Resin for Miniatures yesthats3dprinted.com/pages/wargamer?ref=FauxHammer
A couple of weeks ago, you had basically convinced me to get the Photon Mono 2 as a budget printer. Now you've convinced me to get this one. Looking forward to you overturning it all again in a fortnight. The detail on this is astonishing for such a cheap machine. I'm kind of blown away by how home resin printing has changed in the last couple of years.
Elegoo has some announcements on June 1st.
Thanks! I decided to get into 3d printing and found your videos, they are super helpful! After binging your reviews I am definitely going with this one 👍
I like that it's cheaper than most resin printers, seriously makes me consider getting into resin printing. Which would allow me to print some custom pieces for an awesome space marine chapter idea I have.
Also, love the retro lego theme. So much nostalgia 😍
Great review. I am really amazed how Phrozen managed to one up the regular 8k and make it so much cheaper.
PS. I almost skipped yours and Dennys' videos because of the drama in the thumbnails ;)
absolutly love the crispness of the detail, just got into this awesome hobby, bought myself a saturn 2 8k and loving it
Fun fact about USB placement. Puting it in front is always more expensive! Its becose manufacturers need to add cost and labour to instal USB extender, when on back thay litteraly just using what is already in printers motherboard. It is a real cost cutting and not a "smart placement"
The motherboard is custom for this machine. They could easily locate the USB in the front of they wanted to. I do plenty of pcba design layouts in the electronics industry.
@@bill72pa Nope its not custom. Just classic Chitu board. If they will place it in front it will be on the way of light source. I disassembled couple of them it wont fit there with standart board. And custom board will also make it more expensive.
I love the change of color on the lid and the fact they give you sand paper to smooth the build plate if you want to.
Been looking into resin printers for minis, and your channel has been super informative for helping me feel informed as I go through my decision process. Will probably be waiting to see what kind of Black Friday sales there are, since I have a wedding to pay for, but definitely don't want to wait too long to get one!
Wow - love the result you can get from this unit!
Looks like a Phrozen Sonic Mini 8kS will be my 1st 3D printer thanks to your incredibly detailed & informative review...much appreciated.
The level of detail that this printer captures is absolutely incredible!
Very nice detail, with some nice quality of life improvements as well! Wish I'd gotten in on this at the preorder price, but still a great deal at $100 more. Incredible the quality possible now for less than $400.
This is an awesome video. I've been wanting a Phrozen for a while and now I feel like I can finally afford one!
I’ve been looking to dip my toe in the printer market but haven’t got a clue where to start. This has helped massively. 😊
This looks amazing. The details are so crisp.
Great review and I learned a couple things as well. Cheers!
I was already looking to buy the mini 8k so this will definitely be my next printer. Great review as always!
I am going to pull the trigger on a new printer and your videos are by far the best resource for 3D printer shopping.
Hi great review!!! Quick question, every time it finishes a print it returns to the top of the rail and the dripping resin splashes on the inside of the lid. So my question is wouldn’t those resin drops fall into the y axis or probably freeze the motor if they manage to get inside and get cured during a print? Or create bumps? It so how is that avoidable can it be set to not reach the top?
Great review....as usual! I bought the Anycubic Photon M3 Premium 8k mainly because of your review of it and because I need the build volume...and I'm very happy with what I'm getting. I don't see the necessity for a 22micron machine yet. Keep up what you're doing!
Been waiting for this review 🙌
Loving that colour, but most impressed by the absolutely insane quality and detail of the prints!
Another great thorough review!
Seems like an amazing (starter) printer price/quality wise.
I've got a Photon mono and I like that this printer has a great increase in resolution compared. Also love the installed screen protector.
Great review as always! As you said in the video, the biggest advantage of Phrozen is pixel size - and I think I like it the most in it. We all love the details in our minis, so having a gear that is so good at keeping them during the print is a miracle :D
Regarding the colour of lid and comparison to lego - we want more lego in reviews!!
But in my opinion it has this Necron-y vibe.... :p
This was super helpful. I’m in the market for a 3D printer. I really liked that printed “test” card which showed how different sized bits would print. Super helpful!
Get a elegoo saturn 2.
You won't regret it.
@@jasoncombs3232 That is a tab beyond my price point, however, if you think I should really wait until I can afford that model, I will take your advice. But what if I wanted a printer between 200-300 USD?
@@johnjenkins8471 you really Cant go wrong with any elegoo product. But aim for a 8k printer. I mainly do large prints so I'm not familiar with cheaper products.
Great review thank you. Think I may have found my next printer 🙌
I've been running my old Mars 2 Pro for so long now that I was looking for something to upgrade to, this is looking like a winner to me. I have thought about getting a bigger machine, but honestly I think a smaller build plate keeps my impulses in check so I don't print too much. I am very much looking forward to the faster print times and higher resolution.
Looks interesting tempting me for my first foray into the resin side if 3d printing. I love the Blacktron look it takes me back.
Its incredible the pace at which innovations in 3d printing is happening
How is this an innovation?
Man you unlocked a memory with those Lego sets, they were so cool!
Love that there is a screen protector included as standard, had to scrape cured resin off my Anycubic Photon screen once and it was a nightmare 😂
From your review, I like how cleanly it prints miniatures! The fact that you can blow up a well-crafted file and it looks like it was made for that scale is outstanding. The price is also amazing for the resolution and detail it is capable of. 10/10 would comment again.
I like how crisp the print is on this 8k printer..I also like how Phrozon have offered this printer at a cheaper price point, which is particularly good for someone like me who wants to get I to resin 3D printing. 😊
Thanks for all the tips!
This printer looks amazing. Printing minis in 8k is now very easy and cheap.
Since I'm just looking to get into printing minis, the Sonic Mini 8kS looks like the right balance of quality and price. Your review is excellent.
so why did you pour resin in that way? from the top of the plate? i couldnt find the answer :C
I've been wanting to get a resin printer for a long time but never had the spare cash to get one. Phrozen would have been the printer I'd choose and the quality of the prints is the most exciting thing for me. When researching them I found the people using phrozen were getting the best results!

@@jackbeattie7390 thought I had, ooops, thanks fir the reminder. It’s in description also
This will probably be my first 3d printer
@@davelogeman amazing place to start
September 31st? Are you sure it's happening on that day, because i'm looking at the calendar right now and there is no September 31st, 2023
Thank you for the amazing and honest review. I'm looking to buy my 1st printer and will probably get this one. Also, thank you for the flashback to my childhood. The countless hours spent with my brother playing with those exact Legos. Hope my Like, Comment and Subscription help you pay for them. Looking forward for more videos and gonna look at your paint tutorials too.
Well I dig the choice of cover colors. bright and funky.
Grate video, thank you at first..
If I can ask a question I would like to know if the lights power is the same between the two printers. I just have had one 8ks and I would like to try some test prints starting with the same settings from the previous 8k.
Thank you once more, grate job! ;O)
its kinda cool thats theres so much competition in the 3d printing space that a reiteration of an excising product with maybe a couple of upgrades and few minor downgrades as a trade off can be sold at a more affordable price because the limits keep being pushed for a better product.
This hits the mark for me, price and quality is now at a level where I'm happy to hop into pre-ordering this. Blacktron is also what I thought when I first saw this, subbed and liked!
Great review, looking forward to future videos!
Thanks so much
I’ve never 3D printed but I’m dying to get started and this looks perfect for making Minis and scatter terrain
The price point has got to be the most impressive thing, what a printer for such an incredible price!
Something I'm really surprised I don't hear people talking about is that this printer also moves away from a Chitu board, which is awesome!
That level of detail is insane for the price point.
Hi, i can see the layer height of 0,02 mm. Friend of mine recomend me 0,05 and also in the vídeo of vogman i saw he put the configuration of 0,05. Will i get better detail with 0.02? Will the resin of anycubic craftsman be able to do this detail? Thank you
Are you by chance going to revisit this printer with the new firmware V3214 that supposedly fixes inconsistent exposure times? Thanks.
Probably in the future, but I’m so busy now. I will definitely be using Phrozen products more frequently.
Top vid, the printer looks amazing. The Blacktron stylings ftw 👌
The lego-inspired look is just unique, I love it
Also, the amount of quality you can get today for this price point is unbelievable
This is a very exciting printer. As I said on Facebook I was skeptical of this printer due to the singular linear rail. Other then the a couple issues with the software(bed lifting after print and exposure time) this thing is doing everything I would be after at a great price.
I bought the Mono x2 2 weeks ago and am now thinking if I had just waited a bit longer, I could have bought one of these. For a 'budget' model, the 8k S looks stunning. I really can't believe that the price is so low. Its definitely going to worry Anycubic and Elegoo.
That's hysterical I've been leveling with the vat in for almost four years now
Another great review, thanks to the Hammer!
Why do you pour it on build plate? And which video is it that you explain why you pour it on plate and not vat
Hi Ross, I am looking right now for my first printer... My budget is around 300-400 and my space is limited, so would you rate this printer over the mars 4 ultra (with FEP instead of the ACF film)
I would rate this over the 4 ultra yeah. But you may be better with a Saturn 2/3 - comparably similar in print quality with a larger build area at a similar price
Great review mate!
great review, have been looking to get printer, quality of this printer is amazing especially at the price
This legit looks amazing
Would you still get this over the Anycubic Photon D2? I'm really really deciding between these two and the new Saturn 3, thanks
For the price, yes, easily
Came very close to buying a Uniformation GK 2 to upgrade from my old Mars 2 Pro (which has been great). I was always temped by the original Phrozen Mini 8K but couldn't justify the price. I don't really need a larger printer right now and space is at a premium. This retains the higher print resolution of the Mini 8K but without the AA bug and at a much lower price. I do wish the power and USB were on the front. Just waiting to see the details of the new Anycubic M5 and M5s next week which apparently will have a 12k screen and a larger print vol but I suspect I'll be pre-ordering the Mini 8K S.
Being able to print high quality minis with lower exposure times (=faster!) seems like the best thing about this printer. I'd love printing more stuff quicker.
Yeah, those great Lego colors! Gotta go hunt for some of those in my attic to decorate it.
I like that this printer is everything you need at a really good price, 3d printing's starting to get mainstream
I love that this printer gives new users an affordable 8K entry point.
Loving the green hood on this. Thought about the Lego too as soon as I saw it 😂
Green is my favorite color and that green lid is probably my favorite feature for esthetics. The cheap price is another good feature for an 8k printer. Cannot beat this.
I live the lid, some hate it.
Thanks for the great video. I'm really impressed by your investigation into the 0.2 sec exposure time. So does this mean that each layer at that speed has slightly more exposure at the earlier render points for every layer depending on where the part is on the screen?
I suppose it does yeah. At about 0.05s per layer pixel to pixel
I like that it comes with the preinstalled screen protector and the screen itself looks easy to replace . I really like this color scheme better than the original .
Yeah screen protector is needed
That's a perfect news for me! I was going to buy mini 8k next month as my first printer, but 770$ (in europe) was a huge cost for it :( But now i have no doubt to buy mini 8ks :) Thanks for this video!
Thanks, please use my links before you purchase so I can get a commission
Great Video Ross, looks a good printer!
Hi. Great review! You mentioned voxel artifacts. Did you do any AA testing? I currently use my sm8k for jewelry casting so I’m looking for the least amount of course. Thanks for the video!
Yeah, at the end when I do the aa tests. Looking at Denny’s Wang video it no longer has the issue of No AA on X axis you get true AA in X and Y now
Great info, thanks for sharing
It’s nice to see a company outdo itself while their original printer is still on the market.
This is my comment to enter into the draw 😊
I knew that colour scheme looked familiar! If the usb location is a problem, would a usb extender cable not fix it super quick? Genuine question, what’s the biggest model this could print in one go?
Really cool video, looks like an excellent first printer.
Great review. I would love to add another printer to my makerspace
Coming to this a little late. Considering replacing my old original Phrozen printer with this one. Out of curiosity at say 1s exposure, how many seconds is that per layer in total? Trying to figure out what the print time would be for a model of a certain size, but I don’t really know how long each layer actually takes into total (hope that question makes sense ) :)
Yeah it does. But it would be a guesstimate based on speed and so many variables
Why not add this printer in your slicer and slice a model. It will give you an estimate there?
@@FauxHammer I don’t have anything installed. I was juts looking for a guess. It’s been years since I printed anything so can’t remember what all the other settings mean. Looking at your settings are the 2 that are set to 6 second both things that happen in a single layer (for example). Can I say roughly 13 seconds (including 1 second exposure) per layer? Or is that going to be way off? That is for the prompt response btw :)
Would you choose the sonic mini 8k s over the saturn 2 8k, both around the same price, 370ish? The 8ks is 22 microns, the saturn 2 8k is 28, but it has a larger volume.
From your video, I understood that there is really not much difference between 28 and 22 microns.
Nah, I’d prefer the larger build plate
I definitely like the price/printing quality ratio. The Phrozen Mini 8K already made great prints, but at this price it’s even more amazing!
Yeah, 22 micron is now entry level
@fauxhammer so where are you going to put it on your top 10?
I’d love to be able to print for my new space campaign since there aren’t a ton of models compared to classic fantasy models out there.
I'm getting this for my first 3d printer. thanks for the info. you saved me from buying random trash printers.
One is happy to be of service
nice review, would love one of these printers
My solution to the usb port being at the side was to get a 50cm usb extension cable with a 90 degree elbow at the printer port. Makes a million miles of difference.
I might actually look at that one since I'm mostly printing model kit stuff that's either reinforced ot used as masters to make molds for casting.
The green is much more transparent. I like that a lot. Curious to how well it blocks UV with the lighter color. I am looking for my first 3D printer so still learning and may be wrong about this.
Dennys Wang tested this, and it blocks out 100%
Thanks for all review.
Thanks for comment
Does seem like a good printer. I do like the look of it too
Cling film or fablon on the inside of the top, helps keep the lid clean
Lego Blacktron! I had the original all black ones too, but the "Future Laser Glass" ones where awesome. Great review, that price is crazy. I have an old Elegoo Mars 1st gen, a cheap (inexpensive) 8k is very tempting.
Personally, I'm a big fan of the new lime green :) Gives the printer a fresh look
On this printer love that quality of the printing and for such a low price. 3D printer is getting better and better and soon it will be something that everyone will be doing and company like this one are going on the right direction. Better quality lower price. Thank you for the content
I was thinking to myself and the beginning that the lid looked like my old Lego bits 😂 it's a nice looking printer although the side facing USB will annoy me because it limits where I'd be able to set it up.
To be honest any thing is better than my ender pro. But the crispy detail looks great! Would live to have something that prints high quality minis.
I really like the 90's lego space black tron vibe of the printer lol.
8k Printer at 260$ is insane. How far we came! It does itch a bit, having a monoX, so I don´t know if upgrade to a mighty or just add this for smaller bits at higher resolution
Either get this, or wait. Just a little longer
