  • Great example of a time that multiple SI resources would have helped determine vehicle problem faster. 2016 Equinox setting a P0172. High Pressure pump leaking causing the rich code. Autel scan tool data showed us the fuel trims were taking away fuel letting us know that we had a rich condition.

    Thank you so much Sir ! This is the only video on CZcams I've seen about this issue
    I had already replaced lots of things on my 2013 Malibu
    This High pressure pump video of yours saved me
    God bless you!
    And once again thank you so much!
    Greetings from Tijuana México ✌✌

    You just saved my ass. I’m having the EXACT SAME issues with my 2010 equinox . Just had timing chain done and notices the rough idle , the sputter on shut down and occasional sputter after consistent 2k rpm . My oil reeks of fuel even after a fresh change (week after). Also have that p0172. Taking it in Monday so my guy can pull up fuel trim levels and see what he comes back with . Sharing the data with him bc he works on these motors ALL THE TIME. Northeast Ohio area.

    The oil cap trick solved my P0172, P0191, P0303 problems. 2013 Equinox running poorly, stalled at stop light, reduced power warning in display. Took off the oil fill cap - waited a minute --shut it off -no over run ! I cleared the codes with Bluetooth BlueDriver -- -- Left off the oil fill cap -- Drove the car about 3 miles -ran perfectly -no stalls no codes --returned home -car shut off perfectly no run over -- on the drive for the first time I smelled gas fumes --before I could not detect gas smell off the dipstick be - changing out the fuel pump --Thank you so much for the info !

    Great info - I have same issue on 2013 Equinox 2.4L Ecotec.
    No P0172 code, but engine run on after shutoff and high negative LTFT (-20 to -40). Maybe fuel pump is has smaller leak.
    Will try removing the oil cap this weekend.
    What is expected fuel rail pressure under load? My OBDII shows around 500 PSI @ idle and 900 PSI @ 2000 RPM (in Park).
    I have read elsewhere that load pressure should be > 1500 PSI.
    Also have intermittent misfire code P0303 - might be a bad injector (stuck open?) or intermittent coil pack.

    • @mjkirk12
      @mjkirk12 Před 2 lety

      Update - now have the P0172 code. Removing the oil cap stopped the engine run on after shutoff. Time for a new high pressure fuel pump!

    • @BrianMann216

  • @arthurfricchione8119
    @arthurfricchione8119 Před 4 lety +2

    Brian, thanks for sharing. Direct injection seems to be causing a lot of issues with fuel getting into the crankcase. Did the service bulletin say to replace the high pressure pump at customers expense or manufacturers expense? I’ve been told they are not cheap. Please post your classes on line or send me an Email. Free or pay I would be interested. Enjoyable class yesterday. Artie 👍👍👍

    • @BrianMann216
      @BrianMann216  Před 4 lety +1

      Would they contaminate the oil with fuel? I have seen oil overfilled with fuel, this one was apparently just enough of a leak to atomize the fuel.

    • @goodautodiagnosticsllc7475
      @goodautodiagnosticsllc7475 Před 4 lety +1

      @@BrianMann216 Yes they would. I would change the oil and verify the fuel trims would return to normal. Then replace the high pressure fuel pump. If driven too long the plastic from the timing chain guides will break.

    • @BrianMann216
