  • The repercussions of P0172 can be quite awful, impacting both the drivability and efficiency of your vehicle. As the code suggests, the fuel mixture in bank 1 (which generally refers to the cylinders on one side of the engine) is excessively rich, meaning there is an abundance of fuel compared to the amount of air entering the combustion chamber. This imbalance can lead to a range of undesirable effects, such as reduced fuel economy, rough idling, stalling, decreased power, and even potential damage to the engine or catalytic converter.

My car failed smog due to "too rich bank 1." AutoZone machine suggested replacing "mass air flow" sensor, which I did, and now I'm hoping the 'check engine' light stays off 🤞
